Improving 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 25, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great variety of holes
Multiple marked starting points
New red markers for shorter distances very helpful
Generally well maintained
Well signed
Never had to wait to play a hole
No charge to use

Cons:

easy to loose discs in the roughs
Can be very wet and muddy in the spring on certain holes.
The constantly varying winds off the lake can be erratic and challenging.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 18 is psychologically challenging. Losing your disc over the steep ledge and into the lake is a serious possibility when shooting for the basket.
This course rewards the player that is a precise thrower. It is not about distance or power, but control and placement.
Signage map at hole 13 is installed upside down.

Lake effect wind 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 24, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great beginner course minus the wind, but we all have to learn sometime. I believe the wind actually helped me with distance. The holes are close very technical wooded throws between holes.

Cons:

18 can be challenging its right next to Lake Ontario shore it can be intimidating to a beginner. I did lose my favorite disc in the brush at hole 15 if anyone finds it my contact information is on the disc. (It will be in the brush to the right near the T.)

Other Thoughts:

This would be great if it had concrete pads but there weren't any issues throwing off the grass.

A Fun Par 3 Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 22, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Some really interesting holes- some are tight wooded holes, there are some elevation changes, a few Anny lines, and a big Hyzer over Lake Ontario if you are daring. I can only think of one wide open hole, and even that has brush all along the right. Bring your utility discs and creativity.
-By the lake
-Great practice for approach shots and putting game
-Short but can be pretty tight at times, so not always easy
- Baskets are in good shape

Cons:

-Brush can be a bit thick in spots
-Tee off areas could be more specific

Other Thoughts:

As a beginner I find this course to be a good mix of fun and challenge- it makes one try some different shot shaping because there is a good mix of hole types, and it's not so long that it feels like work to get to the basket.

Improvement 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 31, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Nice baskets
-Porta potties near parking/teepad 1
-Potential
-Wide variety of shots needed
-Easy to follow and has nice flow
-Not very busy
-Camping nearby
-No entry fee despite being a stste park

Cons:

-Thick rough with lots of prickers on holes 1, 2, 3, and 4
-Some crowded fairways (being thinned out though as work gets put into this course)
-Not many long holes, although this can be a pro if you are newer to the game or don't have a big arm
-Some of the rough is thick even if it doesn't have prickers
-No tee pads as of yet

Other Thoughts:

****UPDATE***** 9/28/21 Course has fallen into disrepair, with hip high weeds on numerous fairways. This is unfortunate as the course is a good time to play and is no longer worth making the trip to.

Course is coming a long after a rough spring (2019) preventing mowers on the course.

I disliked this course when it was only 9 holes, but the new 9 has changed my outlook. There is active work going into this course to make it better and I believe once it gets some more traffic it will only get better. The rough will get beat down a little bit, making finding errant shots easier and new lines will be cleared as time goes by. You may not reach for your distance drivers often, if at all, but you will be forced to use a plethora of different shots. Hole 8 will make you decide to lay up or try for a look. Holes 10, 14, and 18 make for fun ace runs, although 18 will require you to risk your disc over the lake if you want to go for it. The new "Park" style holes make this course a lot of fun, and make make me over look a few of the original holes that need work.
Overall this isn't an amazing must play course yet, but it is a new course with potential and some fun holes that will only get better with time. If you are passing through it is worth playing a round. It's fairly short, so it won't take long. Would he a great warm up before playing Shore Winds, which is only 20 minutes away.

As with any course with thick rough, be sure to protect yourself from ticks. Check out permethrin and make sure you check yourself after every round. Ticks are bad this year. I have not found any here, but feel I must make this public service announcement as I'd hate to see anyone become sick from a tick.

Potential is There 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 23, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- A few really nice holes already in place (4,5,8,9).
- Part of a really nice Park, but no entry fee.
- Generally pretty quiet/uncrowded.
- Nice baskets.
- Could be a really nice 18 hole course someday.

Cons:

- Currently only 9 holes.
- Still under construction in places (being cleared).
- Tee markers are unclear and/or missing in spots.
- No tee signs.

Other Thoughts:

It has potential but it is still has a long way to go to get there. Will keep my eye on the progress of this new course.

The Beacon- 1st time playing it 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 17, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Really nice area, beautiful and a cool breeze.
Nicely laid out course that will challenge the beginner or the long time players.
Sweet hand painted tee signs that show the throw and the footage and add a nice touch.
It has Blue, White and Red tees on every hole.
NO TRASH anywhere!
Not crowded.
It's now a full 18 hole course. Many, many of the trees have been trimmed of limbs making your throws much more skill than luck getting through. Hole 17 was extensively reworked and I've gotten a 2 on that 3 times since then.

Cons:

The wind coming off the Lake can make some shots pretty tricky.
If you throw your disc into the sidelines there are a lot of pricker bushes to contend with.

Other Thoughts:

The 1st hole is thrown from the Northwest corner of the parking lot near the Porta Potty. The basket is behind and between a V of two trees.
The 2nd hole you can throw up a narrow path or take your chances throwing through some trees more to the right.
The 3rd hole lets you air it out. Right in the middle of the course is a lone 2" tree that we all hit once and had to laugh.
The 4th hole you can throw straight and to the left but a couple trees will give you a hard time. Or you can bomb it to the right and come around the trees landing left and toward the basket.
The 5th hole you have to throw to your left either over or around a big bunch of trees. Then, the basket is behind a very low hanging tree.
Hole 6 you have to throw down and to the right at a 90 degree angle. After you hit the trees you'll need to throw up a bit and through a bunch of low hanging trees that are pretty challenging to get through to get to the basket. This is the longest hole and can really mess up your score if you're unlucky.
Hole 7 you'll stand on kind of a hill, throw down through some trees and then throw up towards the basket.
Hole 8 has you throw down and then a little bit up and through some trees towards the basket, towards the lake. It has 2 lanes you can choose, 1 left or 1 right.
Hole 9 you can try and throw straight through to the basket but you'll most likely hit the trees to your left OR you can throw out over the cliff over the lake and hope it lands back on the course. Throw something overstable and you'll be fine.
I LOVE this course and play it every weekend. We just play 9 twice to make it 18. It's quiet, it's clean and it's just a real pleasure to play it.

We actually met Paul as me and my friend played the course. Being a beginner (at the time) I really liked the course a lot. My friend is a 30 yr. player and he liked it too. We'll be back as often as possible to play it. We did 18 on Saturday and 18 on Sunday.
I've played it a lot more times now and we like it more and more each time we go.
Update: it's now 18 holes and is a very cool course with lots of different and challenging shots. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
