Pros:

There is great variety of terrain at Twin Ponds. It checks all the boxes with open fields, woods, elevation, and water. The course is very secluded and you are not likely to run into much interference from the campground users. The large grass meadows of the first 8 holes seem to be mowed regularly. The meadow holes are challenging and fair, and feel more established than the woods. Hole 8 is a great par 4 that tests accuracy off the tee rather than pure distance.

The course is located at a campground, so it could be a great spot if you are looking for a disc golf camping trip in the Adirondaks. It is also located very close to Ausable Chasm, a must see attraction if you are in the area.

Cons:

Tee pads. The local volunteers hope to have cement tees in the near future, but they are currently natural sandy dirt tees. The addition of permanent tees would bump up my rating to a 3 right away. The tees didn't take too much away from my experience, but I'm sure they would bother some players.

There are a handful of holes in the wooded back section that need some work. Holes 10, 16, 17, 18 all need varying degrees of redesign, or simply some tree work. The fairway on hole 10 begins as a tight gap then disappears into a "get lucky" section. Finishing with 16, 17, 18 leaves a bad taste in your mouth. 16 blue has a gap that I would consider unfair at only about 5 feet wide. 17 plays up an extreme hill, with numerous trees, all but ensuring a 75 foot roll away with any mistake. Hole 18 feels like a missed opportunity for a cool downhill finishing shot.

Other Thoughts:

The course is quite out of the way for most players. You will most likely have the course to yourself, but if you travel from a long distance you might be disappointed, as it is not a destination course yet. The local volunteers are very dedicated to improving and growing the course though.

I would highly recommend Twin Ponds to anyone who is looking to camp and play in one location. It would be a great spot to bring a family for a week and play to your heart's content. Campers have access to a nice pool too.

2020 revamps and clean ups 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 29, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Course has been cleaned up and positive changes have been made. Fairways are much cleaner especially on the wooded back 9. We have added two new holes and both red and blue tees which makes the course more accessible for beginners and advanced players. Grass is mowed and the course is playing great. the variety of the course is what makes it great. The more open front 9 leads into the more technical wooded back 9 that has some elevation changes and tight lines. Keep it low and controlled and this course plays amazing. Hope you like the new additions.

Cons:

Clean up is still needed and it is a work in progress but overall the course is playing very well and as long as you stay on the fairway their are no issues. Watch out for ticks on the front 9 but they have not been bad lately.
