Ramblin’, Ramblin’, Ram…BLIN!

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 10, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Two tees and nine baskets are ranged broadly around the rolling park land just east of the Carl Albert State College campus, creating mostly safe lines of flight over recreational to intermediate distances between 230 and 500 feet, and if you glance at the map, you'll see that you're going to begetting your exercise walking. For the most part, the designers have chosen interesting fairway lines and basket positions, plus mandos (including the double mando on hole 5). Over all, this is an enjoyable, expansive, rambling 'two by nine'.

Cons:

For the travelling course bagger, this one could really use some above-ground signage, especially since you'll be walking more than the length of a typical hole to get to 5, 7 & 8. Holes 3 and 4 play across a stone-lined, 4' deep drainage ravine that does not have a bridge, so the less nimble may even be getting more exercise as the walk around to hole out. You could put a disc in the water in the 'creek' left of the pond on hole 1, and the water runs wide and deep in that ditch. The pond may come into play on holes 1, 2 & 7 if you worry about disc loss. The forced mando left of the pool fence on hole seven is also one of a few spots where picnic tables come into play (possible also on 4 & 5).

Other Thoughts:

This type of course is what I've come to refer as a Two by Nine, that should be listed as a nine hole course with two tees per basket. Even when the lines of flight are different, it's technically nine fairways. ps: look for the ghostly white basket on the right side of the stone wall to the right of hole 5. It wasn't til after my round there is actually an adjacent course!
