Thorny but beautiful 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 11, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

An easy-to-follow course, aided by very legible, weather-proof maps, and enhanced by stories at each tee of the land the course sits on. During the summer, there were approximately a dozen people spread out over the nine holes, and it did not feel crowded. Fellow frolfers: friendly.

Cons:

Thorns! Try to aim for the fairways (which are basically the most-travelled pathways on the 3rd-8th holes). Don't get tricky like I did, and end up searching for your disc in a woods full of holly bushes and other thorn-bearing sticks.

Other Thoughts:

The first tee is not in an obvious location. The map of the campus is at this URL:
http://catalog.umassd.edu/mim...campusmap.gif
... the first tee, on this map, would be across the path from the large capital "E" next to the Hickory Dorm. The course winds its way across the street and off the ring, and holes 3-9 are around the compass on the map.

I will totally frolf here again. I'm also wondering what it's like when school's in session, or in the wintertime. But this time, we saw all sorts of wildlife, a baby bird, a moss temple someone had built, a natural bog...

Busy and Convenient Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 11, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

I was surprised no one had reviewed this course yet because when we went over a nice-weather-weekend it was busy. Not overcrowded but with a lot of folks playing. This is a mostly flat nine hole course in pretty good shape in a field and wooded area on a college campus.

Each tee is a flat wood-chipped area with clear signage that also has some local trivia. We had a slightly difficult time finding the first hole (it's on the north end of the course but has a map to all the other holes) but once we started it was easy to make our way around. Baskets are well maintained and each hole in the more overgrown area definitely had a "fairway" and then out of bounds areas. Holes ranged from decently long to some short somewhat more technical ones. I'm a newer player and it was a good time for me.

Cons:

Sometimes if you toss a disc out of bounds you can pretty quickly be in a densely wooded area, so this course rewards accuracy.

Other Thoughts:

There is a lot of good parking nearby as well as the UMass Dartmouth Library which has a cafe during the school year/weekdays as well as clean restrooms.
