Really fun home-grown course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 9, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

-The course has a wonderful homey feel. It has SO much character! The handmade bridges and baskets, swing, sheds, stage, etc. are all awesome. The land has been given SOOOO much love! The signage is great! So much attention to detail to make for a fantastic experience.
-The golf is totally awesome. Ace runs, legit par 4s, water, uphill, downhill, big open fields, tight wooded lines, mandos. I can't believe that someone was able to make such a diverse course in their backyard... but here it is! And he's sharing it with us!
-The stream on the course is awesome. It adds lots of challenge, beauty, and character. Fishing out your disc is generally an easy feat and they provide you with poles to help. I learned I like throwing over streams more than throwing over lakes because it's easy to get your disc out of a stream!
-The views at the back end of the course are amazing. What a place to play disc golf!!!
-I love how many people were there! I felt like a part of a disc golf community, which is not an easy thing to do in western MA. And the scheduled tee times made it so we never to wait and no one had to wait for us. Brilliant!!
-It's free, but be sure to donate!
-The course is being updated regularly. Work days are happening and improvements are underway. Awesome!

There are lots of other pros, but these really stand out!

Cons:

-Course one place where holes play adjacent to each other. At the end of the course, you have to walk down a couple fairways to get back to the parking lot.
-Homemade baskets add character and function well. They have lots of chains and are the right size. It's not like they're made with random pieces of metal or too few chains. The main way they are worse than store-bought baskets is that the bottom area of the basket can have a funny shape, so your disc will act differently than it would if it hits the rim/lip of the bottom.

Other Thoughts:

This course earned a 4.0 because of the dedication of the owner, the care that has been put into giving players a wonderful experience, the amazing views, the fantastic use of water, and the awesome, diverse golf. The golf is more interesting and dynamic than Highlands of Conway. The course has more character than Crane Hill and I like the golf here more. I think the overall experience is as good as Tully Lake, but it's a totally different feel.

Don't miss this awesome course!! Schedule a tee time and have a blast!!!

great course with even more potential 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Beautiful piece of property. Good mix of open and wooded shots. Signage was excellent. Manicured well. Keep up the good work!

Cons:

The back 9 had a lot of greenage/water where you can lose discs easily (not beginner friendly). There is not a lot of parking and where you do park is real close to lanes on 1, 3 and 4. Little nerve wracking for the car and thrower.

Other Thoughts:

Seeing donation $ go towards new catchers would be great.

Pros:

o Nice variety of technical woods, holes, wide open fairways, elevation changes and water.
o Tee signs and direction arrows on every hole and throughout the course.
o A few long par 4's but mostly par 3's long and short, and some tight wooded fairways, some water hazards, some wide open fields
o A lot of great views
o Short red tees for beginners on a few of the holes where water and foliage presents difficult shots for white tees.
o Friendly dog that will come along for the round

Other Thoughts:

Tee time reservations are required. Go to http://westyacres.com for that as well as more information on the course including additional reviews and a link to a Slack workspace used to by folks who want to keep track what's going on at Westy Acres and talk to each other about the course and disc golf.
