From a "fun" perspective, none better in Nashville

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 22, 2023 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Always plenty of parking by both hole 1 and 18
- One of the best flowing courses in Nashville with minimal walking from hole to hole and the end right by the start
- A variety of pin locations including a short basket on each hole for kids/novice level players. A great course to learn on and also to play for your very first round
- Tons of different shot shapes and a decent amount of elevation changes.
- Some holes have a variety of different lines to take and some pretty much force one line which provides for varied difficulty
- A couple of open holes in 1, 17 and 18 to balance out all of the wooded holes. 1 and 17 are 330'+ which is a very welcome change to most hole lengths.
- Very fair gap hitting in the wooded holes, the tightest gaps are on holes that are short enough for the hole to still be reasonable. 11B and 13B are both super narrow sub 200' holes that make for a fun challenge.
- Baskets and teepads are in decent shape
- Efficient layout that makes for a pretty fast round provided there are no backups
- Never too crowded--it's not Seven Oaks. Even if you get stuck behind a big group its very easy to skip the next hole because they're so close.

Cons:

- Very heavily trafficked by pedestrians, there are walking trails throughout the entire course. Not always a con per se but you do have to be mindful as the paths go quite close to a few holes
- Proximity to the dog park can be somewhat annoying as you will deal with some barking and yelling on holes 1, 16, 17, 18
- Some ditches and drop-offs along holes 8, 9, 10, and 11 which can make disc retrieval dangerous and when its muddy brings messy falls into play
- No bathrooms, no water, trashcans aren't the most plentiful
- Without the UDisc map it can be easy to get mixed up from holes 11-15 since they are so tightly clustered.
- The downside of the efficient layout is potentially throwing into other holes, groups, pedestrians, etc. It also limits the course in terms of hosting tournaments as it creates more backups and hazardous throwing situations.
- The park has two entrances and sometimes the gate by the course is closed which results in a 2-3 mile drive all the way around the hole park to get to the course parking lot which can be a bit annoying.
- There really isn't a practice basket per se, you just have to putt on 18's basket and move if there are people playing the hole. Same for a warm up field now that there is a ton of construction around 18.

Other Thoughts:

To me 4 stars is the ceiling for a non championship-level course so this gets pretty close. I've had a ton of fun with this course, it's way more about gap hitting than distance which if you don't have a big arm is great. There are tighter lines, longer holes, more elevation changes and more interesting challenges at all the gold standard Nashville courses (Cane/Cedar/Oaks) BUT this course is king in terms of the "fun" factor. Plenty of ace runs, holes that aren't too long and a round that can be done without strenuous exercise and 2+ hours.
I think with better amenities and rejuvenated tee pads on all the holes (some have been done in the last year and look awesome) this gets to 4 stars.

A Presidential Retreat

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 29, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

1) Initial impression upon pulling into the course is a beautiful, well maintained park. Freshly paved parking lot with a practice basket adjacent to it, multiple new appearing tennis courts and pickle ball courts, basketball courts, and a large very nice fenced in dog park. This is all nestled inside of a very nice subdivision. Hole #1 is a short walk across the road from the parking lot and loops back to hole #18 whose catcher is right beside the parking lot.
2) This course offers multiple pin locations, and they are neatly cut into the custom metal course signs, with an indicator to show which location the basket is currently in. My only knock on this is the choice in sign color was a light green making the signs very hard to locate and even read when close up to them. Maybe a darker contrasting color would help. Baskets are Red/White/Blue Veterans in great shape.
3) There is also a short basket (Green Prodigy) installed on most holes which is clearly designed for beginner/novice players and I'm told they host multiple glow events utilizing these short pins.
4) Great variety of lengths and different shape shots required throughout. It rarely feels like you get to throw the same shot shape two holes in row from the tee. Well placed tees have some difficult but not impossible forced gaps while a lot of holes provide a hero gap for those risk takers among us.
5) Although heavily wooded for most holes, this course is very recreational friendly. The distances are manageable, the OB is most of the time not relevant (just property line boundries mostly) and playing safe will usually net a stress free par. I never felt like any hole was out of birdie range for the player that can throw 350 feet or more with control (and only Hole #1 and #18 really require that much power).
6) A solid pro player should be able to shred this course but there are plenty of opportunities to make mistakes. If your putting game isn't on, you'll kick yourself for missing a lot of getable holes. This course is amazing for all skill levels and especially as a woods entry level course for beginners (the Green Baskets) and work your way up to the Veterans. Also a wonderful location for seasoned players to work on hitting lines and committing to sloped green putts.
7) Although the course is tucked into a relatively small wooded area, you don't feel cramped or impeded on by the other holes. There is a great use of elevation change and it never feels too demanding to walk or play. And the course plays surprisingly quickly.
8) There is a plethora of solid (but not spectacular) holes. Nothing here will take your breath away with its majesticness but you also won't be left feeling like that hole was bland and easily forgettable. *Outside of Hole #1 and Hole #18 (which are both fine holes, but necessary to get you from the parking lot into the woods, and to get you from from the woods back to the parking lot.)
9) Teepads are OK but not great. They are concrete pavers and while solid they tend to be slick with moisture and hold mud when course conditions are wet. Plus side is there are very few holes where I felt a run up was needed.
10) Solid mix of elevated, slightly shortened, and baskets placed on slopes with roll away potential. Really made you focus on making a confident and well aimed putt throughout.
11) Immaculately kept, mowed, woods clear of limbs (mostly, see below) and trash. Well taken care of by locals.

Cons:

1) Beyond a single port-o-potty at the parking lot there are no restroom or water facilities throughout the course.
2) There are multiple trails running through the course that are well utilized and you may find yourself having to wait to throw on occasion. However the scenery is nice so taking a break and enjoying the view isn't the worst thing.
3) The course had been hit pretty hard by severe weather prior to the last time I played it meaning there were a lot of downed trees, some piles of limbs (evidence of them beginning to clean it up), and some washed out areas that were slightly hazardous. This is a very small knock as this course is "loved" and maintained well by locals almost always. I'm placing it here simply to inform those who might play it soon to expect some downed rubbish, but to know the course is rarely ever like that for long.
4) There are a couple run-off dry creek beds that need bridges to cross without having to walk a long way out of the way. This may be difficult as this area may get rushing water that overtops these washout creek beds and would destroy bridges, but they are deep and difficult to cross.
5) No water or restrooms available after you leave the parking lot
6) Can be a very busy park so stay attentive and make sure you are clear to throw.

Other Thoughts:

This is a wonderful course that has squeezed every drop of potential out of the small property to put in a disc golf course that is suitable for the masses. With multiple pin locations, two sets of baskets per hole, endless lines and gaps and combinations this course offers plenty of upside with very small downside. My friends and I go out of our way to play events here anytime one pops up and try and include a stop for casual rounds when traveling through the area. Not a bucket list course, but a must play when in the area.

(Still) Really Impressed by this Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 3, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The course designers did a fantastic job on this course. Besides holes 1 and 18 (the only open holes on the course, and 1 finishes in the woods), every hole was a technical line in a mature forest. The course never felt monotonous, with elevation changes, doglegs in different directions, and frequent length differences. Navigation is also a breeze, and when it isn't, there are several signs pointing you in the right direction (especially from 12-14). (08/26/21 UPDATE) There are now two separate layouts - the usual layout utilizing red Veteran baskets, and a short/kids layout utilizing the original green Prodigy baskets. I personally haven't played the kids layout, but if I had youngsters I would be bringing them here for it.

A separate kudos has to be given to the people who maintain the course on a regular basis. I may have gone on a lucky day (right after the NDGS Huk Fest), but the course was in pristine condition. The underbrush was cleared entirely from the fairways, and not ridiculously thick on the fringes. There are large trees throughout to force different lines, but it is clear on every hole where the disc is supposed to fly. (08/26/21 UPDATE) For being relatively new and very wooded, the lack of undergrowth is impressive. There is much less of a chance of losing a disc in these woods than your typical woods course.

Cons:

Biggest con: the tee signs. They look cool, I really like the design. However, (1) they are green and really blend into the leaves, making the cutouts in them hard to see, and (2) they don't have a picture showing the line of the hole. Take a picture of the course map before you start, because even though the hole location is usually easy to find, it is not always clear from the teepad. (08/26/21 UPDATE) The short/kids layout does not follow the teesigns at all, since it was installed after the teesigns were installed.

Only other con worth mentioning: in a similar fashion to the tee signs, the band at the top of the baskets are also green. They are still bright enough to stand out from the leaves, but as they fade over the years they could become harder and harder to see. (08/26/21 UPDATE) This isn't a problem for the regular layout using the red Veterans baskets, but can still be an issue for the short layout.

Other Thoughts:

I will admit that I liked this course a lot more than I expected to. It is a technical course that forces you to be accurate, but it is not too difficult to discourage those who aren't quite there yet. It is a quick drive off exit 108 on I-65, making it accessible to locals in Nashville and Bowling Green and non-locals passing through the area. I would definitely recommend giving it a go. (08/26/21 UPDATE) This course is so worth it, and a very easy stop off the highway. It's definitely in my top tier of Nashville courses with Cedar Hill, Big Daddy Cane, and Seven Oaks.

Pleasantly Challenging 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 5, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Every pin is a challenge, I like that; No water hazards, I don't like those; Mostly shaded; Quiet (occasional dogfight nearby); Giant woodpeckers (birds); about a 1.75 mile hike; "hide & seek" is easy to play here (with your discs); Great work on clearing the fairway; dedicated locals maintain and upgrading the course regularly; the course is being put on Google Street View soon!

Cons:

a bridge is needed on fairway #7 to cross a massive gorge that will swallow a disc easily, a stairway down into the gorge would be nice to make it easier to fetch a disc - There is a large dead tree that will eventually have its roots washout and likely take-out whatever bridge is made if its not felled first; there used to be a course MAP, it would be nice to have little "you are here" mini-maps at each tee showing the current pin locations and direction to the next tee (or a printable course map); occasional lingering murkiness of nasty cigarette smog creeping through the woods from people who don't have any consideration of others who visit this course to enjoy the fresh air of the woods.

Other Thoughts:

This course combines some of my favorite activities: Hiking, Frisbee, and Hide & Seek. Excellent course if you like accuracy challenges, the trees will force you to either tighten up your game or go home with nicked up discs, personally I prefer to tighten up my game. There's a good bit of elevation on this course and I would recommend sports shoes with hungry cleats. I play a Par4 average on this course with the occasional 3 and the rare 2. I have only aced one pin in my life, and it was at this course on #7, although no one was there to see it happen, it lit the fire for the game and gave me hope that I could play the game (that disc has since been donated to a pond by an ex GF and I haven't come close to acing it since, but I try every time).

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 7, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Well groomed for such a wooded course. Multiple pin positions on every hole. Has a kids course with short baskets so you can bring the wife & kids out to play.

Cons:

Hole 7 needs a permanent teepad. This page needs updated pics added as the course looks & plays very different than the course shown in these pics from 2016.

Very fun wooded course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 7, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Diverse shot types
Tight technical lines
90% under mature tree canopy
Balanced risk/reward
Beautiful course with huge potential
Good natural flow

Cons:

Carpet tee pads - concrere coming soon
Needs a couple small bridges for easier passage - coming soon
Can be quite muddy after significant rain

Other Thoughts:

With all of the recent work on this very young course, it is rapidly becoming a local favorite. Beautiful course that can be tough but still fair.

1 or 2 holes back up to residential property. In the case a disc goes over a fence, please do not climb the fence to retrieve it. Please attempt to contact the home owner to retrieve your disc.

White House Welcoming 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 6, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Absolutely beautiful and easy to find. Nicely tucked between the city park and a neighborhood but makes you feel like you're deep in the woods. SO much work has gone into this course as of late that has made it 10 million times better to play. You'll enjoy shots of all kinds which makes it a fun and challenging course. Plenty of shade so great for summer time play. Some elevation change but pretty easy to walk making it family friendly as well.

Cons:

Still needs a few things including tee pads, signs and benches. The underbrush has been significantly reduced but still some poison ivy. Once the final touches are put on the course it will definitely be among the top in the Nashville area.

Fun and Shaded 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 11, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

white house disc golf course has come a long way with alot of work and effort by volunteers. the course looks totally different and closer to completion than ever. This course has alot of fun shots and lines for all levels of players. The shots will really test your accuracy. In the summer months this course will be heavily shaded with 16 holes of the course very wooded but beyond the fairways are cleared if you miss your line you can find your disc and possibly save par. I will definitely play this course more.

Cons:

The course currently only has 2 trash cans. the tee pads are carpet and not perfectly level on some holes. According to the locals concrete tee pads are on the way this summer.

Reviewed: Played on:May 7, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course has gotten much better in the past couple of months. There is a crew of locals that have been doing a lot of work to make it a better course and it is working! Its different than anything else we have in Nashville. The shots are short, but they do not get boring. It is almost an hour drive for me to get to White House, but worth the drive a couple times a month for such a fun course.

Cons:

No benches yet. The only complaint about any holes would be the short one with a fence to someones back yard pretty close. I can definitely see people over throwing the basket and going into the yard.

Other Thoughts:

Already a solid course, but when it gets some more miles on it i think it will be a must play if you come through Nashville!

White house 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 9, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Lots of work being done recently to get this course up to playing standards. I love a nice wooded technical course and this course is becoming that one. Much work has been done to eradicate as much of the density as possible while creating fun lines and keeping the lines that are challenging. Some of these holes are designed beautifully that make you think and even for a short course, you still need to bring your whole bag because you never know what you will need to curve and turn your way to the basket. Great views as well as many of these holes are picture perfect.

Cons:

Poison Ivy is the number 1.
Again, work is being done to get this down but remember to wear your high socks.

Tee pads are carpet but this is one of the things that is being worked on as well and am fully confident in the future, we will have concrete tee pads.

Lastly, is trash cans, a pain to keep up with but will direct most loose trash into one bin instead of the course itself.

Other Thoughts:

Will totally come back and look forward to playing this course in the future as it can only get better. Most of the difficult renovation has been done and now its just regular upkeep with the weekly course grooming to keep the shape of each hole accurate. I recommend this course to anybody who is passing through or on your way to/from Oggwood.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 1, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Finally a course in this area of the mid-state. 18 hole course of tightly wooded technical (holes 1 and 18 are open). It is a course that will challenge your ability to hit tight lines of all shapes- straight and varying degrees of left and right. Many holes have a bit of elevation.

The strength here is the overall design of the holes and the shots required to score well is a good challenge, though not impossible..

Pretty much on land only for disc golf with no other activities to interfere. The course is in an area in the back of the park that plays in the woods the walking trail runs through. The trail (and users of it) for the most part should not come into play on any shots- the trail is often used for getting from one hole to the next.

Nice practice basket and ample parking. Prodigy baskets are new and in good shape.

Navigation was tricky in some spots, but at least there were a few signs between holes to help, or I never would have found them all. So it is possible with a little patience and searching.

Cons:

Unfortunately, right now there are lots. I waited for a few months before playing and reviewing knowing that new courses take time, but this course, though playable, leaves much to be desired in its current state:

Carpet (or dirt) tees, and not nice carpet, just various scraps.

Baskets, though nice and new, are lime green- very difficult to see on a thick woods course. I had to walk every fairway almost in its entirety to see it. (As much as I despise the band on Discatchers, the yellow band is the easiest to spot of all baskets.)

Also, the numbers on the basket are annoyingly useless as they do not face the tee/fairway, so if you have doubt as to hole# or basket, you can't tell until you get to the basket. Got me the most on #18, because I thought it was #1 (the only hole you see it from the parking lot clearly, and no tee sign, so I played the hole only to see it was 18, and looked for 10 minutes to find #1).

A couple other holes were more difficult to find, sometimes going down the paved walking trail to the next tee made it more difficult to know when to leave the path to get to the tee. I passed holes a couple of times, finding the next one, then backtracking. (around holes 12-15).

Tee signs on most holes, consist of only a hand drawn number, with no distance or any indication of hole shape, and several of the signs were just laying on the ground.

With 16 straight holes in the woods (and I like technical woods) it does become a bit repetitive. It felt like most all the fairways are the same width. 1, 18 are open, 7 and 11 are memorable and different than the rest, but the other 14 are very similar.

I played in early summer and the holes were just about overgrown with the exception of a narrow path of a fairway on every hole. The result is trying to land every single shot on a narrow strip through the woods, or searching for your disc in thick undergrowth on EVERY single shot. (Tip- wear pants to avoid nettles, poison ivy, probably ticks, etc.)

*Many of these cons can be improved upon, so I will be sure to check back and update as needed.

Other Thoughts:

Basically, I spent way more time trying-to-play this course than I did actually playing the course. The theme for the round was "always searching"- looking for most of the tees, looking for most of the baskets, looking for my disc on almost every shot, looking looking looking... It got to be more frustrating, unfun, and more of a chore than a leisure activity.

I hope some improvements will be made, and quickly. I would play here again (mainly because there is finally a course close to my in-laws), but probably only in the fall, winter, or early spring before green stuff starts to grow. I know Will S. designed it and that may interest some people (and the design itself is fine, though nothing special). Would help with the addition of decent tees, signs, and primarily maintenance. If driving I-65 there are better courses within a short drive: Cedar Hill (north Nashville) and Franklin-Simpson (in Franklin, KY).

Tight, technical, FUN! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 19, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- 16 tight wooded holes, #1 & #18 are the only open holes (you still have to hit a small opening across the field in the woods for #1 basket.

- There are several signature holes - #3 is a make or break that should challenge anyone, #4 is a tight ace run which is always fun, #7 is a beautiful toss across the ravine to basket on opposite hillside, #15 rewards you for hitting a very small gap off the tee

- high reward for hitting your lines (pay the price if you don't!)

- lines are fair and super fun

- 5/21/2017 Update - LOTS of work being done over the past few months by locals. Fairways are definitely cleaner and easier to find discs.

Cons:

- still a very young course

- tee pads, bridges and signage is in the works

Other Thoughts:

Overall the design of this course is great and it is only going to get better! Every hole feels like it was well thought out and the layout maximizes the space available.

It is already one of my favorite local courses to play.
