So as the title says, I'm looking to build a bag for her to learn with. She has enjoyed throwing my little brother's starter bag of 150g DX discs: Dragon (not DX), Cheetah, Shark, and Aviar, but wants something of her own.

She read about the "Pretty Line" of discs, Diamond, Pearl, Jade and Ruby. She's super excited and I was hoping to get some feedback on these before we go. I don't want her to get disappointed and quit. I get to play more when she wants to go!

So, what are your experiences, suggestions, etc. on these?

I got my wife a Diamond and a Pearl. I actually went too light with the Diamond at 132ish (opto air plastic) and should have stuck with the 150 class like I did with the Pearl for the sake of consistency. She picked out her own putter and I encouraged her to get one in a heavier weight. Both are quite understable for me but still stable to overstable for her only throwing it 100-150 ft.

Those Lat discs will be fine for her, especially since she's excited about them. I'd say get one of each in the 150-159g range as a start. Then you can work from there.

When I first made a bag for my girl, my thought was "light" discs. After having her throw some light 140g sidewinders, beat dx firebirds and a few others - she actually threw the 170g discs better. I picked up a Wizard, beat DX Roc, Pro Leopard, and a beat Star Sidewinder. She kills it now.

Understable/used discs are key because it will allow her to get easier distance with less power.

Don't even bother, she will be gone before you know it and you will have a new gf again. Cycle will repeat itself until you quit disc golfing which I haven't. Generally the process repeats itself 6-8 times per year.

my wife has a diamond about 153 she throes it pretty good I think that latitude set would be great for her. I am also thinking about the ruby and pearl to go with it

I agree with the lat easy throw set. Good grip and feel to the discs and more durability vs the dx. I bought some for my daughter and she loves them. My only surprise/ disappointment was that the putter (ruby) was deeper rimmed then I expected. The website stated the discs were made for smaller hands, but I think the ruby is still a bit too deep of a putter for my daughter. I imagine it would be fine for any adult.

the jade, diamond and pearl are great discs (get the heaviest you can find 155-159ish)
but i would recommend a regular putter (start her with what ever you use)

My fiance started out last summer and her bag is basically:
Lat 64 Diamond
G* Roadrunner
Recycled Fuse
Gateway Magic

I've got a few others in there for throws where the probability of losing a disc is much greater. (DX Leopard and DX Shark.) But they're still beginner friendly and she throws them fine.

Honestly, she wants discs that are pretty. She's never going to be a tournament player. She's out to be with me and have a good time, so it really makes no difference what discs she has as long as they're pretty. If your GF is going to be competitive and worried about improving, then that's entirely different.

another good set up (What my wife started with) is the innova dx starter 3 pack
all 3 are 150 class
dx leopard, dx shark, and a dx shark
add a dx stingray and she is golfing

Another vote for Diamond. I've thrown a lot of discs and this one goes farther with less effort than ANY of them. If YOU rip it it will probably turn hard every time but it will be a sweet "S" curve for the softer tosses for most of the ladies.

No insult meant to the ladies as there are some who can rip it - I'm just sayin on average...

Cheetah and Shark are good discs. I am really liking the Jade right now, bought a 155 Opto sparkle. Really like the feel in the hand. It gets equal distance to my valks, but seems to be fairly forgiving. I liked the diamond ok, probably would've loved it when I was starting.

Other good discs have been the leopard, tl, core and buzz ss. When my daughter was playing, she was getting the best distance with the core and buzz ss.

My current long driver is the Valkyrie, but the Jade is threatening to over take that spot.

My wife has had success with the Diamond, love giving that disc to beginners in general. Used to give beginners a Leopard, but the Diamond goes a bit farther with the same effort. She likes the Pearl too, though it gets tossed around a bit too much when there's some wind so I like to give her something a bit more stable to pair with it like a 160g or 165g buzzz.

She can putt great with a 170g DX Aviar. The Ruby is awkward for her, probably because it's so light, plus being so light makes putting in any wind really challenging. I'm not sure what the advantage is of having a 150g putter, seems silly.

Haha, I hope that's a joke

i'm taking my girlfriend for the first time tomorrow at Kaposia. I'm actually really excited to play with her.

I feel like you hit a certain point in life when bringing a GF or wife becomes the opposite of what you want from disc golf.

Only if it becomes the opposite of why you started playing in the first place. My wife and I play to have fun, first and foremost. She knows I take it much more seriously, but she's always a great reminder of the reason I started playing to begin with. Fun.

We play to get hot and sweaty as a close secondary reason. :p

To the OP, lots of great suggestions here, but my wife really started to get interested when her discs started to fly further with more control. This was when she went from the Diamond to throwing a Fuse and a Warship as her primary discs. I recently gave her a Lady Line FD to play with and she has really been throwing it well, no doubt due to the form corrections she made throwing the lower speed stuff. YMMV (as always when it comes to women).
