[Innova] Mirage

I think beginners and people that like to drive lots of putters will dig this. I would get a couple for when I take my sister in laws with me or My son in lieu of a polenta or thrashed roc possibsly

Just got the 2016 Innova catalog in the mail and saw a new putter called:

Mirage!

Dont have the catalog in front of me but it was to come only in Star plastic, and be more understable than the Re-tooled Colt by numbers AND on their flight chart.

The numbers, ( trying to remember here ) a speed 3, glide ?, turn was negative 3 ( ? ) , and fade of ?

Is this the old Mirage? I played with a guy about ten years ago that only threw and putted with a Mirage, Aviar and XD the entire round and swore by the Mirage but I thought it was made by Wham-O but I had literally just started playing so I am sure I am wrong on that. We started talking about these discs because he was surprised I had just started playing and only was throwing a Rhyno and Innova DX Gremlin and no drivers. He instilled in me to learn midranges and putters thankfully.

Here is the latest from Innova, release date in Star plastic is May 16th!

The USDGS shirts look good and so do the stamps on the Champ Roc 3 plus. I did not think the "plus" rimmed discs were popular enough to produce/release that for the USDGC disc?

The (significantly) understable putter is a hard kind of disc to come by. Innova is already one of the few manufacturers to come out with one, and they have the Sonic and Wedge. I think Lat64 has one in lightweight only as a beginner friendly disc. I have both a Sonic and a Wedge and I bag the Wedge for anny approaches. The one thing about the Wedge is that it is so domey and has such a shallow rim that it is awkward to grip and throw. I would love a disc that is just as understable but easier to throw. If anyone can post a pic of the details on this disc in the catalog I'd love to see it.
I bag wedges too and use them frequently. I found the star version pretty unpredictable but Gstar is awesome. Somehow it's a more stable and less glidey disc in Gstar. I love it.

I am interested in the Mirage. I love my Sonic for short anny upshots, straddle putts and lots of get out of trouble shots. It flies and feels like an Ultrastar so that maybe why that is why I love it. I am interested to see how the Mirage turns out. I don't understand why more companies don't make really under stable putters.

My first thought upon reading that is that there must not be much demand for them, especially by pros. In trouble situations, one can forehand flick a disc instead of backhand-turnover a shot. Also, many discs (for example, the Cobra) will season in to be an understable/turnover discs, so new, off-the-shelf US discs haven't been in demand as much.

It'll be interesting seeing how the Mirage does, both in its flight and in demand for it.

Seems like an interesting mold - hopefully some factory second's pop up at the factory store.

Not to overdo it with Wedge love, but I threw a beautiful sharp anny around a tree today, parked it right under the basket from about 70 feet. I haven't thrown anything else that could've done that (for me). I'd try a Sonic or a Mirage when it comes out but I can't imagine anything beating my wedges for those understable approaches. Also my wife is divorcing me if I buy anymore discs, so there's that.

I am thinking a Mirage might be what I am looking for in a Right turning approach shot disc. I have NO FH game and would like to be able to throw a disc that would go right ( even when powered down ) and not try to fade/fight back.

I also checked and found out this is in the V-Tech family, so it should have a nice feel in the hand. I am thinking a nice Colt/Stud shape  .

Looks like first runs hit retailers this Friday - does anyone know how quick production runs tend to follow?

I went to a Sexybeast Challenge last weekend, (Nate Sexton and Paul McBeth came to town and ran a 3-disc mini consisting of a Roc3, Destroyer or Thunderbird, and bring your own putter, then they gave a clinic afterward), and used a new WGE Mirage that I had received the day before as the third disc.

It's very shallow, like XT Colt shallow, except not so angular. It's got a ton of turn, perhaps too much, but for short approaches or lay-ups it was pretty decent, and it putted quite nicely.

Edit: I don't think it's got a spot in my tournament bag, but for 3-disc or 2-disc events it's versatile enough to be in the "putt & approach" slot for sure. I'm keeping mine.

This appears to be what the Mirage is. Now for a very OS disc for the full 4-disc lineup....

Star Studs had a first run, and there has been NO Star Stud production run since. :( And I am increasingly fearing there will not be one at all. I hope Innova proves me wrong. And I hope they'll have production Mirage runs, as well. Time will tell..

Dammit, couldn't resist ordering one from DGU. I'm just out of control with buying discs.
