[Drivers] Favourite understable distance driver

I have a love for understable discs. I love the shapes and lines that can be achieved when you dial in the right disc for the job.
I would love to know what your favourite distance driver is! What are you currently throwing, what do you love about it, and what are you looking to try next? I want to know what distance driver gives you the longest, and most beautiful "S" flight!
Let's say minimum 10 speed, as I feel anything lower would be classified as more of a fairway driver.

Currently I'm throwing an Archon, at 11, 5, -2 , 2.

It's a fantastic and overlooked disc. I didn't really know much about it before I picked it up. In fact, on first look/feel, I was skeptical because of the HUGE shoulders it has. But it gives me one of the sexiest "S" lines I've thrown.

I'm looking to try out a Discraft Thrasher next.

Neutron Inertia...well the first run when they where borderline illegal stiff. The amount of power they can handle without burning is impressive.
I am not as impressed with the Plasma Inertias, more turn and harsher fade.

Discmania TD is my favorite understable control driver. I carry an s-line and a d-line. The s-line is for hyzer flips and power turnovers. The d-line is for standstills, big turnovers or rollers. I also like throwing both for forehand shots as well. The next step up from a TD is a p-line PD2. They aren't naturally understable, but with a little wear they hold a turn nicely.

I like the Archon, also. It's one of those "Destrulcan"-domed discs. For a while it was my main distance driver, but eventually lost out to the Tern.

I also tried the Thrasher. It's also a good disc, but it didn't "wow" me, again in comparison to the Tern (noticing a pattern, there? ).

When Spring arrives, the candidates to return to my bag are the Neutron Wave and the Pro Shryke/I-blend Pharaoh. If Innova ever gets around to making some lightweight Mysteres, it might return to my bag in place of the Wave. And the Pro Shryke I have may be an aberration, but that baby flies for me.

If you're thinking S-type understable flights, I think Havocs have a really huge turnover flight and enough stability to not roll on you if you throw them with enough hyzer and height. Definitely a touchy shot though.

Wouldn't consider a Havoc very understable out of the box myself. But each to their own!

Max out at around 375, so I'm not a power thrower. But anyone who considers a disc with flight ratings 13, 5, -1, 3 an "understable" disc must have a HUGE arm. Of course, you can beat in any overstable disc, but I'm talking fresh.

Hmm you throw hard enough to turn them with no problem, in my experience. The flight ratings are way off on the Havoc, I'd call them 13/5/-3/2 from the handful I've thrown.

The King is another one that has the ratings way off and can fly understable S flights that bomb.

Ah gotcha!

I used to throw a king actually. I loved that disc once I learned how to throw it. That thing would sail for days! Just wish they had better plastic.

I agree the Archon is a winner. I liked the one I threw a lot. It reminded me of a Wraith with more high speed turn and less low speed fade. I got great S curve bombs out of the Archon. The Thrasher isn't a bad one either, but I liked the Archon better. The Thrasher will turn over and has a much harder time fighting back late in flight. Flip city. I'll go ahead and list a few other noteworthy understable discs that I think actually work well.

I list those 3 below the rest because they're in a different class. They're speed 14 sizzlers that will outfly pretty much all other understable molds. HOWEVER, being that fast and flippy, these discs are a chore to throw effectively. They often turn over and go off into oblivion. You WILL mash the crap out of them for big yards, but the disc could end up way, way out of bounds more often than not. Those 3 molds are probably more trouble to throw than they're worth. You'll get 1 great drive followed by a dozen bad ones.

Havocs are actually very flippy. Much more so than the flight numbers would indicate. I've thrown a couple and had similar results with both. They go right and stay there. No late fade to bring the disc back.

Even for someone looking for an understable driver I'd have a hard time recommending the Havoc. Anything above 350' and those things become a liability to throw.

Not something that would be useful for me on the course, but I think they do come out of it with a good height and they flip easy enough for me to be able to throw them that high confidently. You do throw harder than me so you might just push them past the point of no return easily.

The Freedom though, I have only thrown one and I found it had lots of speed but little glide...didn't give me any extra distance for what I gave up in control.

Of the first bunch of discs you listed, there are a few I haven't tried. But the Destiny I thought was similar in flight to the Havoc or like a flippier Vulcan for me...touchy but could cover good ground. Vulcans can be great as long as you release with clean hyzer, they are fast but still glide. The Katana though...those can be all over the map in stability, with some being way way more stable than expected.

It is on your list Valkyrie that is my favorite and possibly most consistent distance driver I own. The other is the Dragon for Long open shots, wind at back shots, and rollers besides its main purpose of water shots. Those are the two main used discs I own in the US side though the more US Archer is for backhand roller as well as main job of right flying or anhyzer shots as I do not have a forehand to my disc golf game other then an approach/ putter type forehand for when I have to throw forehand.

Yeah. All the discs on that list I created I've thrown fairly extensively. They're all understable and they all bomb. That said, I'll never say I'm consistent with any of them. With any understable disc you need a bunch of things to work in your favor to get a perfect flight. Any slight miscue in release or having the wrong wind pattern can mess those discs up. I've probably hit 450'+ with every mold listed, but getting that distance with an inconsistent disc is a chore and you need everything to go properly when you throw them.

The Shryke is the understable disc I have the most confidence in. Thus, I bag one. It also isn't quite as understable as some others listed. Another disc I forgot to list that fits the category is the Ballista. Those things will go an absolute mile if you hit them properly.

I Use a Ti Thracher/ ESP GLOW Thracher and it gives me a ok range US/stable. .

But a Pro Teran/Pro Shryke and a Champ Tern/Shryke have a nice range from US to stable

I haven't tried a NukeSS. I've thrown the Bolt, and it's okay.

But the two Freedoms I tried both svcked, bad. The Freedom is to me what the Renegade is to Twmccoy...

Depends on what you mean by 'distance driver'. I tend to throw slower discs for understable drivers, since getting them to hold a turn is easier.

My favorite understable driver is the Mantis. If it has to be speed 10+, I'd say the Tern

*Shryke. Just love the easy distance I get with this disc. Then it would have to be Neutron Wave, also easy distance without lots of power.

Wave. The only disc faster than speed 9 that has reliably benefited me and my noodle arm. Glides beautifully, turns easily without burning.
