Review by halasjackson in course NAD Park - Main

4.50 star(s) Absolutely Beautiful This is a truly beautiful course. The landscape is signature northwest giant ferns beneath a high shady canopy of very old, twisted trees. The open expanse between the treetops and the ground allow for open, yet challenging throws. Elevation is utilized extremely well...

    Advice on a tunnel shot....

I like the idea of using the putter and/or the Buzz -- personally if I had to choose between those two I'd go with the putter (I use a Soft APX) because the Buzz and anything "sharper" adds a dangerous left hook at the end of its flight. But, if I felt like my drives were on point that day, I'd...

First Try 360 Throw =-O small gain

Wow, if you're at 540' now and gaining 30' per outing, it'll only be about 5 months until you can throw over a full mile -- as long as you keep going out every day. Keep it up and you won't even have to leave your backyard to ace pretty much any course from Newport News to DC. You should...

    meat hook or spike hyzer?

If you approach RBBH, I would recommend the spike hyzer with the most overstable disc you have -- I use a Wraith if I need a sharp (left) turn and a Buzzz if I can use a more rounded turn. In my experience, trying to use putters or understable discs with this shot... they tend to preserve the...

How far can you throw your putt and approach discs?

Soft APX I can chuck this thing nearly a football field, but would I ever do that on a course? Nope. I personally have much more control with my "fairway drivers" at those ranges (either Elite XL or Roadrunner).

Review by halasjackson in course Bayville Park

3.50 star(s) Beautiful 3-par flagship course of Norfolk Beautiful location dedicated solely to DG -- a walking trail wraps around the perimeter of the course and it has never posed a hazard / problem to my game. After the early spring leaves are raked up, copious amounts of wood chips are laid down -- I...

Review by halasjackson in course Bennett's Creek

1.50 star(s) Needs a lot of work Pros include: Targets are sturdy and in good condition. Some pretty views over the marsh / waterway. For the holes that do have signs, they (the signs) are helpful and well-designed. Ample parking day or night, people spouting, "Howdy, neighbor!" Unfortunately, many more...

Review by halasjackson in course Lake Point Park - Old Layout

3.50 star(s) Very cool, unique course Disclaimer -- I only played the Front Nine and then had to go. Pros include rare and unique hazards. The first and second hole, albeit identical in most respects, are unlike any other I've seen. They're only about 150' straight shots, but you are essentially throwing...

Review by halasjackson in course New Quarter Park

4.50 star(s) Best Course in HR area Top notch course with excellent use of natural obstacles, elevation changes, extremely challenging terrain, and boomer shots. This is th ebest course in the Greater Hampton Roads area and is a must-play for any aspiring player. The obstacles are "fair" in that they can be...

Review by halasjackson in course Ace Run Ranch

1.00 star(s) Horrible Swamp Golf I am sorry to say that there aren't too many Pros about this course. It is private, so you can bring beer, etc. without worry of running into the cops. Also, there are some interesting and challenging "greens" and pole-hole locations -- some up on little hills, on an...

Review by halasjackson in course Newport News DGC

3.50 star(s) Better than Bayville Beautiful setting. Good variety of foliage obstacles -- bare tree trunks in the woods and lush, low foliage out in the open. A few "Jedi" holes (3 & 9) where you have to navigate fences into and out of the woods. Decent mix of wooded and open holes -- several opportunities...
