    Dangerous Course

This showed up in a Udisc Ambassador post on facebook recently. I wish there was a way local designers could be contacted to fix these kind of courses.

Ask John Houck about Course Design & Development

I've found that sometimes you have to open up a hole a little more than you would like in order to get equipment in there to maintain it over the long run (whether its some sort of walk behind brush hog or a bobcat or whatever). It will grow back and can be managed better afterwards. As long...

    Mental Competition

I find when I play with my friends for casual rounds (I am better than them, I have been playing for a lot longer) I dont focus as much as I could and dont play as well...which is fine. As soon as we make a bet or put something on it, I focus and they cant beat me...like not even close. But...

    Mountain Bike Integration

In my limited experience on shared biking/golfing courses one thing I have noticed that should be considered in a design is that fairways and bike trails run perpendicular to each other. It's one thing to post signs on the course that say watch for bike crossing on the trail. It is another...

    Mountain Bike Integration

I think there should be clarification about whether you mean mt. biking in the same park or through the disc golf course...and then if you mean down the center of the fairway. Someone earlier mentioned stub Stewart. I have had encounters with horse back riders on the trails through that course...

    Best Portland, OR Area Courses?

Ah yes indeed. Strange how the no dog rule there is different than most other Oregon State Parks.

    Best Portland, OR Area Courses?

Just for clarification, the only park on the list that is an Oregon State Park is Milo (riverbend). Oregon State Parks usually allow dogs on a leash. Maybe you just meant any parks in Oregon in general but I wanted to clarify.

Par 4 and 5 Design Mistake

That's an old article that I think most people who have researched course design have read. It does have some good info but there is also info there that I disagree with...it is opinionated at the very least. I'm happy to discuss it if you'd like but I wont derail this thread doing so.

Par 4 and 5 Design Mistake

As a designer you need to get over the mindset of trying to "make a course that good players can't defeat." It's not about trying to defeat the good players. I have wrestled with this myself. You need to be ok with good players scoring well. Make it challenging yet fair. It's not your...

Ideal Par for an 18 hole course?

Quoted for truth. Let the land define the course. Our sport isnt to the point of ball golf where it is financially viable to completely change the landscape for a course. We have to best utilize what we are presented. That being said, in my mind at least one par 5 and at least a couple par...

    Dangerous Course

Ya, its during the advertised tournaments with groups on most teepads that would have to be seen to give a good assessment.
