[Discraft] Comet love?

Somebody's closer!

The answer really is always throw a Comet.

It's funny you say that because whenI screw up an approach or short drive I'll pull out my Comet as a practice throw and it seems like I park it every damn time and wonder why I didn't just throw the comet in the first place

Sounds like you should probably give that a shot :D

Hey guys!

Love my Z comets but I hate the hand feel of Z.

How do the domey Big Z comets fly vs regular Z? Are they just as stable out of the box or are they more prone to flip? I love the laser straight glideyness of the Z's but was hoping to find a better hand feel.

Also - how does the Göte fly and beat in vs comets? I know they start out a touch more stable but was wondering if they worked in to be a comet in K1.

Thanks so much!

There's domey big Z comets? All mine have been flat, really flat, uncomfortably low shoulder and flat. Also weirdly slippery but they're a few years older big Z meatballs.

Gotes suck. Nothing is a comet except a comet.

What about a domey esp? I heard the '22 MJ's were pretty nice....

My big Z is flat, but not slippery. WAY more stable than any of my other Comets, too.

My 22 MJ is flat, too. Gotta seek out the domey ones in a pile, if you can. Unless you can see a profile shot online, there's just no telling - and it seems like flatter ones are more common than domey ones anymore...

I found Gote to be touchier than a comet. It was harder to get clean releases on them. They wanted to be more HSS, but flipped easier if you didn't hit them just right.

In other comet related news I hit a narrow 215' quite uphill tunnel for ace yesterday. My 2018 Esp Glo MJ is the only comet in the bag these days, but it did get work at 8,000' and narrow fairways yesterday.

Looking back down the fairway to the tee, I swear it looks narrower from the tee:

Apparently everyone thought the disc was too pretty to sign the front.

ESP MJ is going to be what you want. Big Z is often the flippier comets.

The Iguana is what I wanted my Gote to be, though not super dissimilar than the "OS" runs of MJ comet. I was also looking for a more OS finishing comet with the gote to fill the gap between gila and comet.

How do these Z line sparkle Ledgestone 2019 Special Editions compare to other Comets? Apparently only 350 of them were made and one is coming my way.

Not exactly sure about different sparkle blends but I do know the most OS comet I have thrown is an X out clear sparkle that we believe was from the sparkle MJ run.

I have two, hot pink and bright green. They're the most overstable Comets (relatively speaking, still not a Wasp or something) I've thrown. Both have decent domes and flight wise I can't tell them apart. For a while I was pairing one with a flat ESP, but honestly they're the least Comet-like Comet I've thrown to date and they're currently sitting on the shelf.

I've maximalized my bag a lot recently so I only carry an 18' ESP; I used to do the 37 Rocs thing but currently my mids are Drone, testing Pyro, Buzzz, Comet, Cobra. Aside from the Pyro I've thrown those molds so many times I know their strengths and weaknesses along side one another. I admitted after all these years similar discs can coexist in a bag as long as you know them well.

The SparkleZ is a good overstable bookend for Comets if you don't like pairing them with a Wasp etc. but honestly they're just kinda meh. I'd trade both for an exact copy of my only 18' ESP in a heartbeat.

YMMV

Is that Cobra a flippy compliment to the comets? Broken in DX or something?

Alright, thanks! Might try it out but even if its not useful its kinda rare so still nice to have I guess. Got a Drone coming in the same package. Never thrown one. Been using Rocs as my more overstable mids for now and Zones for beef. Will see if there is a reason to carry both : Drone/Zone.
Roc3's even in MF aren't super trustworthy so been just using fresh KC Rocs until they become too straight. Been thinking about trying a Wasp though.

Grip covered it; it's more OS with less glide, so it has none of the Comet magic.

They are pretty, though.

"Too straight Roc" ... that's a funny Roc. Can't say I've seen a Roc that's too straight

Meaning the fade is gone when throwing them +300 ft? I want to be able to do a bit of an S flight or just straight to fade with my Rocs, if I wanted dead straight Id just use a buzzz. Don't see a point in carrying a straight Roc and a Comet in my bag.

Typically yes, but they still have more fade than a Comet and work great for high turning shots that stall and rollers too. I recently swapped it out for my last Champ Cobra I have, might as well throw the thing!

It sits between the Buzzz/Comet on paper but really I throw all three at different release angles depending on the shot...I don't recommend newer players emulate my current mid game lol

EDIT: I should have said on hyzers/certain straighter shots/turning shots. Release angles don't mean much without context a la hyzer release can still turn and burn.

Are those old sparkle comets more overstable than the newer release with the astronaut on it? I got one of those that's currently getting dyed by disc dyes by Emily, and that thing was about a straight as I've ever thrown a comet...
