DFW disc golf

Thinking about traveling down to DFW around Xmas/New Years, primarily the northeast section of town. Planning on Selah Ranch, Trey Texas Ranch, Harry Myer, maybe Town Lake, Alex, Clark, Bill Allen, Lake Lewisville. Nothing's written in stone yet, but I definitely wanna hit the Selah/Trey combo.

Can anyone recommend a couple of good place to tenet camp near Selah/Trey Tex ranch, and another closer to the DFW courses?

Just looking for a place to pitch a tent and shower.

Selah has camping available with showers..I believe you can camp at Trey Texas, but they don't have showers.

It gets pretty cold to be camping that time of year down here. There is campsites at joe pool lake state park that are pretty good.
Thanks Tfire.. will look into Joe Pool State Park. I've done similar trips to FL this time year where I've camped in TN and near Atlanta... typically OK down to the low 30's. I have a 0˚ sleeping bag and a small space heater I can keep in my tent... keeps me comfy provided I can set up my tent within 25 ft of an electrical outlet.

Much obliged Dave..will look into these as well. :)

I believe it's called cedar hill state park. The are all within 25 ft of power outlets. Let me know when you're coming down and I'll meet you at lorch.

Maybe not unusable but he said its off of Byron Nelson by 114. I asked if he had any any land they couldn't use for regular parks with some elevation change and that's what he told me. I'll ask him this week how serious he is and if he would be ok with me getting someone in contact with him.

i wonder if it's the area adjacent to Litsey Rd and 114 business, with two large ponds nearby...

It's the land behind the elementary school in the new sub division off of litsey. They are submitting a proposal to the home owners with the course on it. If it gets approved, it goes to city council pretty quick. So we are two meetings away from a possible yes for a course in Roanoke. Lets hope our image doesn't hurt us!

This is awesome! Let's hope the city goes for it.

i case anyone hasn't heard, the Jaranator is totally awesome and you should go play it.

info about availability on the course FB page regularly:

it seems the course is only available when Matt is around and has opened the gate to the property but it seems like that is most Saturdays and some Sundays. mini usually on Saturday morning around 10. the course is lots of fun, big ravine with a shallow creek in play on the front 9. lots of fun shots there. most of the other holes are tight woods and 19-22 are open.

maybe i'm still in fanboy phase but this is my new favorite course in town. and Matt is super cool and a great host.

it's a round, beveled-edge disc made of hard, translucent plastic. it's one solid color with a stamp that says Discraft Wasp. it has no permanent marker written on the bottom side of it.

do i get it?

If Selah goes away before my Spring guys trip, we'll probably just play in Dallas/FtWorth area for 4 days. Are there any private ranch courses nearby -- similar to Moody's near Austin or Houck's old place in Wimberley? Or are we stuck playing public courses?

There is one - The Jaranator - in a southeast 'suburb' called Lancaster. It gets a lot of good reviews and has an active Fbook group. That's also where to download the waiver to play it and get any info on mini's.

I wouldn't say "stuck playing public courses" is a bad thing in this part of town. Research the following courses and you'll have access to some of the best courses anywhere.

Turner Park, Veterans, Beaver, Coyote, Bicentennial Park, Harry Myers, Trophy Club, North Park, etc. Only 4 days....so many good courses. ;)

Trey Ranch is south of Selah Ranch. It has two courses designed by John Houck too. I haven't played them yet, but they get good reviews.

Only 4 days in DFW means never having to play a good course twice unless you want to. If you play during the week, don't miss Z Boaz. Mobs on evenings and weekends, but a really fun course to play.

Frito lay

"Stuck playing public courses" means having to deal with people and beer restrictions.

Though our group enjoys playing on the best courses in the world, the golf is secondary to the experience, and the sparse crowds and cold shiner at private courses are a big part of it.

Trey is possible, but that's a big commitment for no on-site lodging, no carts, and courses that aren't necessarily fully beat in yet. Will have to evaluate that as the Spring draws closer.

Of course hoping Selah is still in business, so this will be a non-issue.

Frito lay

Unfortunately Frito Lay is a private course typically only usable by employees of the Frito Lay location. I work right next to the park it faces my parking lot and I can't play it there without being escorted by someone who works there. I think thats why its not on DGCR's course search engine.

There are public courses here that fit your description.

Sweet, I'll check back later if it comes to that. I think I was just having a moment of panic as I made my flight reservations for DFW, realizing Selah might not exist. Thanks for the info.
