Nifty little Practice Ground 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 18, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Alsterdorf DGC marks the latest addition to Hamburg's discgolf landscape and - while not a real course - is a well suited practice area for putts and upshots. It is located in a small park right next to the lutheran hospital Alsterdorf with it's shopping streets and as such is easy to reach by public transportation. The park is split in half, 1 basket w/ 2 tees is on the right patch with a little hill providing slight elevation changes, the other 4 are played on 3 baskets on the left patch that has some really nice old oak trees and perfectly trimmed grass. The trees require shot shaping and provide different routes to the basket so you can work on your approaches and practice different angles. There's only one hole (i think it's #6) where you could apply a driver, the rest will do just fine with putter or mid.

Cons:

It's too short to be anything but a practice ground (a "round" plays in 10 min) and the 2 holes on the right patch could have been more interesting. Also, you need to watch for pedestrians as the basket sits right next to the path.
There are tee signs, but the hole numbers & distances have already faded from most of them. Also, outside seating area of the adjacent retirement home / senior center is somewhat close to one of the baskets so a shank-job could potentially endanger senior citizens sitting outside (will only apply in summer).

Other Thoughts:

Though way too short for anything but practicing, Alsterdorf does well for such. It is easily accessible (in walking distance of full size City Nord DGC) and is interesting enough to keep you entertained. Especially in fall and winter with the sun setting early, you can still get some quick practice rounds in after dusk without risk of losing any discs. The baskets closer to the path should even be illuminated by the streetlights.
Basket placement on the right half could be improved and there would be room for 1-2 additional baskets. All in all, it has its niche and fills it nicely.
