Pros:
American Falls DGC starts in a mostly open park with mild elevation for hole one, a longer hole with a right to left line and trees guarding the left side and a slight downhill slanting left. Hole two throws back uphill and is mostly open, hole three is a short, wide open hole. From here is where the course gets a bit more challenging and fun. Hole four throws uphill almost 400 feet with a ravine threatening the right side, an OB street threatening the left and some overgrown bushes the whole way straight. Five is a nice downhill throw into that ravine, little RHBH putter shot. The next couple holes play over or around the overgrown ravine and holes 8 and 9 are back to the green grass, park setting.
There are some longer holes here and this is not a pitch and putt. The elevation on the park part and around the ravine is a nice change of pace from most 9 hole courses in city parks.
Cons:
Although not a bad designed course it is very RHBH friendly which is not surprising for nine hole courses especially.
The course is grown over quite a bit at this point, looking at the pictures on here from years past I can see it would have been a much more inviting experience but at this point searching for discs in brush and in tall grass around the ravine holes isn't much fun. I wonder if the when the course dries out in the late summer does this get better?
There aren't any tee pads here, it's one of those throw from next to the tee sign courses and where you stand can actually matter at times.
Other Thoughts:
There was lightning and thunder quite close while we were playing the course and the wind was very gusty making it a difficult round. By hole 7 it rained on us pretty hard and we quickly ran to the car and put our bags in and grabbed our putters for the last 2 and got out of there ASAP. It's not a great course but the course was designed fairly well and there are a few fun holes out here. I imagine the course doesn't get much play as one of the locals was looking at us like we were aliens. If you're coming by to play Massacre Rocks or have family in the area it's worth the stop as a leg stretcher but nothing much more than that.
I can't believe this is the first review of this course in 14 years! Wow.
