A special kind of course. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 10, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a very unique course on a beautiful piece of property. Views are quite stunning on #10 tee pad. A very good mix of open/wooded holes. Also some elevation changes on some others. This course has it all packed into all 18 holes.

Cons:

Tee pads are rubber and can get a little slippery. Some of the fairways don't get as much attention as they should with some weeds and low hanging branches in need of some TLC. A lot of the baskets are in or around other camp activities so I could see playing here in mid summer might be a challenge and interfere with the other activities. The course can be really wet in spots during rainy periods. The course can be quite windy too since it's so vastly open. These are all minor and didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the round.

Other Thoughts:

At first I wasn't sure what to expect. When going under the camp archway looking around would have you possibly thinking the course might play around/through the endless fields of the tree nursery on the left. Then at the back of the drive it suddenly opens up with a view of the huge lodge and rolling hills and open fields lined with disc golf baskets. This is definitely a unique place and someplace special. Not a very technical course but fun to play. Worth a play if your in the area. Just make sure to get permission first.

Very Solid Private Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 4, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Camp Kon-O-Kwee is a massive YMCA center that is set amongst the rolling hills and deep forests of Western PA. The course is pretty open for the most part, but it's designed very well and uses woods and elevation when there's an opportunity.

+The course was designed by J. Gary Dropcho, who has designed several famous courses in the western PA area. It's a classic Dropcho design that's really fun to play.

+ Good mix in distances and tree cover. Holes ranged from around 180' to 600'.

+ Two sets of rubber tees, and Mach V baskets. Almost all tees are in good shape, same with the baskets. The camp and course is kept up very well.

+ The two sets of tees make it easy for kids and adults to play a round without a ton of difficulty. There's chances to work on technicality and your long bomb drives.

+ Friendly, welcoming environment in a secluded camp. Holes play alongside rustic cabins and beautiful trails.

Cons:

- The course is not open to the public unless you make a reservation ahead of time and check in with the office before playing. I've heard they'll kick you out if you play without permission.

- Could be a tough play during the summer months due to camp activities. There's some secluded areas, but a good part of the course plays near activity areas.

- Not a whole lot of challenge, especially with the generous pars. It seems like the pars were determined on distance alone rather than difficulty and distance. <300' = par 3 300-499' = par 4 500'+ = par 5. If you play the course strictly on the pars on the Signs, you'll shoot well under par and have several eagle runs from close range.

- #15 is unplayable because they are building a brand new pool house about 100' from the tee in the middle of the fairway.

Other Thoughts:

I was told that they welcome disc golf visitors as long as you follow the following steps

1. Make a reservation/tee time through their email or phone
2. Follow their camp motto, which are posted near the entrance. Respect is the main thing there.
3. Check in with the office to get a visitor pass before stepping on to the course

This is worth a play, as there are some fun shots here. The course doesn't get as much attention as it should, so give it a shot!

Navigation may be tricky, so make sure you use the UDisc app on your phone to find your way around the course.
