Pros:
A well-cared for, short, open course.
-Amenities: DISCatchers, partially numbered. Concrete tees are smaller but not problematic. Tee signs have hole, number, and par, and they make navigation seamless.
-"Friendly": Easy-to-play and hard to lose discs.
-Beginner-Friendly: With distance ranging from 120' to 300' and almost no fairway obstacles, this would be a great place for someone to learn basic disc-slinging.
-Minimal Variety: There are a couple of factors adding slight interest. (1) is a sharp dogleg left, (5) is a sharp dogleg right, and (7) has an early tree that will punish a late release. (2) plays up a hill that (3) plays down, and (9) introduces an OB road on the right.
Cons:
Not much to hold interest.
-Length: Many players will throw putters off the tee for most holes. Very little challenge.
-Whacky holes: The two exceptions to the "straight shot through the field" rule are (1) and (5), but these doglegs are improbably sharp. Despite both being sub-225', I threw drivers because the left-right distance change was so extreme. I can't imagine a beginner parking either of these.
-Limited Availability: As with any school course, not open during a vast swath of time.
-Grate: Hole (4) features a drainage grate inside circle 2 with holes large enough to swallow a short shot.
Other Thoughts:
Coker Elementary is an open, short course. Considering the signage and target quality, I suppose it's Passable. Nothing more than an intro or practice course.
