Seven OK Holes And Two Terrible Ones

Reviewed: Played on:May 19, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

(1.329 Rating) A likely former reasonable Rec 9 holer, until other park amenities were added within its footprint
- QUICK PLAY - I was in and out in 23 minutes. Woot woot.
- BASICS AMENITIES - There was tee signage at all but one hole, hole (6). I liked that there were benches at many of the tees and that the tees were concrete. The chains were not top of the line, but they still caught well. I also appreciated the new bridge over the ditch leading to tee (4).
- REC FRIENDLY - The hole distances and technical requirements here will appeal mostly to Rec and Intermediate level players. Ignoring hole (6), the hole distances average over 300 feet long. Shule has to be avoided like the plague in a few spots. This one will be doable for beginners, but its far from ideal. Chances of losing a disc are low.

Cons:

Holes 6 and 7
- FORCED EDITS? - I am not sure what happened, but hole (6) is one of the worst holes I've ever seen. It's a tee shot surrounded by waist high weeds with a left hooking pitch shot through trees and measures a measly 60 feet long. The rest of the holes average over 300 feet long. Hole (7s) tee then aims in the wrong direction with 300 feet of tennis ball courts between the pad and the basket.
- SAFETY HAZARDS - In addition to the tennis ball courts in play, most holes have some other hazard in play. Park roads, roads, parking lots, picnic tables and soccer fields can all be struck. Hole (3) is probably the only hole I didn't have to worry about how poorly I had been throwing.
- HOLE VARIETY - Not bad for a small city park 9, but still well below average among all courses. All par 3s, although hole (4) is a plus 400-foot rip. Hole (3) and (5), have to have the shot threaded into a pocket. Hole (1) is a nice blind right hooking shot. Some might say the tennis court clear is unique, but I don't credit that. No water in play and mostly flat.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - I scored this one roughly 15 percentile. Parts of the park are definitely nice, but most parks I've been to can say that. To many man-made structures in view and play. No exotic terrain, no calendar worthy photo opportunities.
- NAVIGATION - passable I suppose. It was great through the first 5 holes. Hole (6) is hard to spot as the sign for the pad is missing. Hole (7) is going to confuse the dickens out of every first timer as the pad aims in the wrong direction as noted earlier. Hole (8s) pads is quite a bit of gap away from basket (7). I would recommend having a navigational app. I do like the fact that the course loops.

Other Thoughts:

The first course in Corinth was unfortunately not a good example of one. It's got some respectable holes, but it's also got some seismic issues. I would recommend to the park staff or volunteers, to clear more of the undergrowth in the wooded areas to see if more of the course can be squeezed in there. I'd also suggest dialing down the hole lengths or adding extra tees. I could see a few beginners being scared away from here due to the length. If I magically became a local here, I would definitely play it, but I'd probably be headed to Booneville weekly. For those like me whom have traveled along US72 occasionally, it's only worth it if you enjoy tallying courses played. Click the link of the who's "played" it, and you'll see a list of regional course baggers.
