Cypress Preserve

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 22, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

9 holes with concrete tees on every hole. Yellow DIScatcher baskets in fair condition, with two holes offering a longer permanent position (red band DIScatcher basket). Course plays in a small city run park with tight lines on several holes and a couple slightly more open holes. One fairly open ace run. The longest hole here is like 275', so you can leave the drivers in the car and throw your putters and mids. Bathrooms and water fountain by entrance.

Cons:

Holes 1 and 2 do not drain well, so they can be muddy and even unplayable after rain storms. A couple of holes play near a wall and a high drive may go out of the park. Hole 9 doesn't really have a defined fairway, and hole 5, just watch for the thick bushes that can make finding a disc difficult. Walking path does come into play frequently, so just take caution when throwing (was not heavily traveled when I played).

Other Thoughts:

It's fun to come over here once in a while, particularly during dry season. You can get lots of short hole practice and often you will have the course to yourself. The ace run hole, 8, is one of my favorites, as well as 4. I don't come here often, but when I do, I enjoy what Cypress Preserve offers.

Cyprus Preserve Park Was A Pleasant Surprise! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 31, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

First, I wouldn't expect to find a course in a small Reserve Park such as this which feels like a botanical garden to me. It seems more a park for strolling or meditation than one for tossing discs. The tropical foliage is thick and lush without much grassy or open area. But, the course works here. It gives beginners or the inexperienced players with one disc a jungle type area to play. Although the distances are recreational short, the accuracy needed makes this course interesting for lots of players.

The course starts next to some kind of water treatment plant. You'll find a kiosk, a bench and concrete tee pads. There is a course map and the rules of disc golf. The tee signs show the next basket. Aren't these little rec courses always the best signed?

The course is recreational short always playing through the trees, bushes and other foliage. Although heavily brushy and tree lined, I can't call this is a technical course. Hole # 6 has two baskets and a fence comes into play on your right. I liked # 3. It had kind of a cool vibe throwing 280' over a grove of low growing palms. Just kind of interesting. # 3 is the longest hole here as the rest play anywhere from 145' to 240'.

It is definitely a rec level course. Intermediate or advanced players need not apply. But it is ideal for beginners, kids and one disc wonders. There is little chance of losing your disc here.

Cons:

I don't see much in the way of cons once you accept this course for what it is-a short beginner's course in a lovely jungle like setting.

Other Thoughts:

I see this an a real enigmatic course. You would never expect to find a course in a botanical setting like this. Frankly, I'm shocked that someone chose to place a disc golf course in this park. It just doesn't fit! But I love the idea and am thrilled to see someone thinking outside the box.

Good Lunchtime Distraction! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 31, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

+Tee pads on each hole
+Signage with distance, OBs listed, and suggested lines to try.
+Plenty of trees and bushes to throw around or between (i.e. forces more technical shots).
+Pin distances are short enough that only a mid-range and/or putter are needed to birdie each hole.
+Only 9 holes, which allows for an extremely quick outing

Cons:

-Holes #1 and 2 are often muddy and will get your shoes/discs very dirty. The holes can also be inaccessible to play for a bit after a rain storm passes (poor drainage in those pin locations).
-Hole #5 has a ton of bushes surrounding the pin. It is advised to use a bright colored disc so you don't spend all of your time looking for your disc (I've done this twice so far).
-Hole #6 is located next to a semi-low wall, so shanking your drive could cause your disc to head over the wall. Same with hole #7.

Other Thoughts:

If you live or work near the park, it is a great place to practice your technical shots and putting with your utility mid-ranges and putters. Using a driver here may not be the best course of action (no pun intended). The course is short and sweet, so I can normally play the full course and get back to work with a few minutes to spare. The park also has few patrons that walk through the disc golf area, so you normally will have the course to yourself.

Nice and fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 9, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a nice little course. Its a very short distance course Par 3 but it has ton's of obstacles. Trees and higher brush, very nice walking path although if your throw in the rough you will be in knee high weeds. It has a couple water holes but there was no water in them. I didn't care. I golf and Markham, Piccolo and now Cypress.

Cons:

Short course if you are more custom to ripping out long drives this isn't for you.

Other Thoughts:

I really enjoyed the course and the fact it was low traffic and low idiot. I will be playing here again for sure.

Diamond Hiding In The Rough 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 3, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is set in an interesting little neighborhood park with some interesting landscaping. Nice baskets and tee pads. Nice restrooms and plenty of benches/picnic tables etc. The course is fairly challenging and has some interesting looks.

Cons:

The course is overgrown in most places and in need of some TLC. Holes one and two seem to have a standing water problem and the rough on the course is in full disc eating mode. I believe that the course could benefit from some minor changes. I would not recommend this course to beginners right now as I see it as being very frustrating for them.

A heavily used walking/fitness path winds through most of the course.

Other Thoughts:

I hope that this course gets the attention that she deserves. There is a sweet 9 holer hiding in the rough here. This course could be a great place to host clinics for the local kids and get them interested in throwing plastic (if the course gets tuned up and is dejunglefied, of course).

Great Beginner Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 8, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Tight, short course forces you to concentrate on accuracy. The flow of the holes make good use of limited space available. A couple of holes have very narrow paths through trees to the target. Landscaping is quite pretty and uses native South Florida plants throughout.

Cons:

Not necessarily a con, but it is a very short course, can easily play all 9 holes in a half hour solo. Holes 1 and 2 are often very wet and swampy, with #2 sometimes unplayable if it has rained a lot. Weekends can be a problem if there are a lot of visitors to the park, as the pathways intersect several holes.

Other Thoughts:

This is a great beginner course. You will improve on your accuracy and no hole is too great of a challenge that you can't make par with some practice.
