Pros:
I am retired military and visit Army, Air Force and Navy bases around the country on occasion. I always have my discs with me just in case there is a chance to get a round in. Not a lot of bases have courses, but this is one of the top two I have found . . . the other being in Tampa Florida.
- Beautiful park setting with rolling hills, three ponds/lakes and a few trees
- Signs on each tee pad
- Good, clean concrete pads
- Custom "Ellsworth AFB" baskets
- Intuitive and easy to navigate
- picnic tables, grills, and walking paths all around the park
- Front 9 is "beginner and family friendly"
- Back 9 is longer and a bit more challenging for experienced players
- Well kept, litter free, and very pleasant park to walk around
- Not many people out, so no danger issues with flying plastic
Cons:
- Not enough trees to challenge experienced players, but the back 9 became longer and riskier (with the water) to make it interesting
- Players could lose a disc in the dense reeds and high grasses around the lake edges
- The biggest con is that it is only open to military and their guests. If you are in the area and want to play, you'll need to make friends with someone who has base access
Other Thoughts:
My round ended up being on a hot windy July day (101 degrees with winds at 22 gusting to 34). So, my scores suffered, but the course and surrounds were nice enough that I didn't mind the conditions. The funniest irony were the "Stay Off the Ice" signs on each of the three lakes! This is a great course to learn on and challenging enough course to develop your game a bit. It's always a bonus to be right next to the flight line when a B-1 sweep wing bomber takes off or lands right next to you. There aren't many military courses that I would look forward to playing more than once, but this is one of them!
