Nice Start From an Eagle Scout Project 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 9, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Previously between White Oak west of Dallas and the Rome courses, this area which has abundant land for good courses had not had any sort of permanent course.

A local Eagle Scout for one of his projects took it upon himself to build this 9 hole course just off the Silver Comet trail, and for someone without much experience it's a good start.

The entry sign and course map are very nice and it looks like a lot of sponsors and local funding went into making it a reality. The tee signs are also very nice. Quite descriptive and show the layout well.

There are a few thoughtful designs on the course, holes 3 with its snaking turnover line, 6 with a sharp up hill and a mando, and 8 were all pretty well thought out.

The Prodigy baskets catch really well, and the blue stands out against the heavily wooded background.

Cons:

The main cons are, it's very short with most holes under 200, which would lead you to believe it's a beginner friendly course, but it's so heavily wooded that even advanced players will have trouble finding lines on some holes.

It just feels unfinished. Not the rough around the edges feel of many new courses, more like not quite complete. Holes 4/5 are the worst offenders with the fairway never being more than about 8 ft wide. Several other holes could use brush clearing out and trees under 3" in diameter cut down.

The teepads are on 8 holes and they are 2x2 concrete that was probably cast elsewhere and dropped in, they are small enough that I didn't use them, opting mainly to throw from behind. It was probably either a budgetary thing or the county said nothing could be placed that wasn't removable, but they don't really need to be there.

There are a couple of holes that throw too close to another. And errant shot would easily come in contact with another fairway or even teepad on many occasions and could be problematic.

A lot of odd trash in some spots like broken bottles/TVs.

Other Thoughts:

Overall this is a good effort made by a designer with likely no previous experience, but with some fairways more defined, and some of the holes reworked slightly this could be a 2, maybe even a 2.5 if holes were allowed to have a second position further up the hill.

Worth the play in you are driving through, but possibly not worth going well out of your way for.
