Pros:

- good quality concrete tees
- lots of trees to force you to throw specific lines
- good course to practice your putter and miss
- quick play course right in town

Cons:

- no tee signs
- navigation is a little tough
- this course is only 10 holes now
- extra tees without tee signs lead to confusion
- tight course with bike trails could lead to a safety issue

Other Thoughts:

Fun little college course, worth playing if you are in town.

Fun yet challenging course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 12, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Two maps at pin 1 & 7 denote the course. Relatively easy to navigate from one pin to the next on 1-12.

Cons:

Back 9 gets into the thicket and a mountain bike trail cuts through the course, sometimes crossing fairways.

Other Thoughts:

Pin 15 placement shows under 200' and it's closer to 350-375'. This is a hairy hole with lots of scrub brush and trees. I waited for a local after 13 to guide me through the next few pins as it wasn't clear which trail to take. Fun little course; easy front 9 and challenging back 9; layout makes sense being next to a college campus.

My old home course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 23, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

+ I'm a bit of a homer but this is my favorite course ever
+ The old one before the redesign in 2014 was the course I learned on
+ Redesign added a lot of challenges
+ Back 12 are phenomenal
+ Nice tee pads
+ Multiple basket locations and change periodically

Cons:

- The front 6 with the redesign are a little boring
- I've heard that holes 3 and 4 are gone now because the campus is building new tennis courts

Other Thoughts:

Again I rate this one out of being a complete homer but the course is my favorite in the 4 corners region. I miss being able to play this course every single day.

Well Worth the Stop! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 5, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

+ Decent mix of Open, Somewhat Treed, and Very Treed holes
+ Navigation made possible with Map (near 1st tee) and arrows at the base of each target
+ Tees and Baskets were in great condition
+ Beautiful views of surrounding mountains

Cons:

- Practically zero elevation change
- Long walk from holes 1-6 to 7-18
- Multi Use Area...you have to be aware of hikers, bikers, dog walkers, etc.

Other Thoughts:

Overall this course is well worth a stop if you're in the area, but it's not much of a destination. Durango is a neat little college/ski town and this course fits perfectly in that setting. It's relatively quick & fun to play, and not too punishing...also not a championship-level course, though.

The mix of of hole difficulty is decent, but they go in order from easiest to hardest. 1-6 are wide open and pretty short. The middle holes gradually get more and more trees, length, etc., ending with 17 and 18 that are tight tunnel shots. I've never played a course that gets harder and harder like that; typically the mix is more random.

Really, it's like holes 1-6 are a warm up/ace race/beginner course, and holes 7-18 are a more challenging course for all skill levels. The long walk between 1-6 and 7-18 reinforces this impression.

This course is set on a very flat piece of land that's surrounded on all sides by hilly, rugged terrain. For that reason, the lack of elevation change on the course itself is weirdly disappointing.

Okay 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 23, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course use to be a tone pole course. The upgrade to concrete tee pads and baskets is a welcome change.

The only basket course located in Durango on public property.

Cons:

Short. The holes are easily reachable. Some box and pin locations are near impossible to find with out a map/local players help. No tee signs

Other Thoughts:

I would have been lost if I didn't run into a couple of local players to guide me through the course. With no map and no tee signs it makes this course harder to navigate then to play.

I completely agree with "giles" review.

Redesigned with Baskets 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 7, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

The biggest positive for this course is that it services a city with no other public, free disc golf courses. It features really nice concrete tee pads and Mach V baskets. The base of the target has an arrow to aid navigation to the next tee. Almost every hole is short with many extremely short though many force a line. While it isn't a challenge for the experienced golfer, it will get more people into disc golf than a championship course. Some interesting holes once you get through the first 6. Stroller friendly.

Cons:

Holes are too short due to land constraints. The first 6 holes are almost all completely open. With a long walk down the road on your left between holes 6 & 7, Look for 7's tee past a gate on the left. Another long walk back to the parking lot after 18.

Other Thoughts:

I suspect much of the design was constrained by many factors. Using the athletic field parking lot. Avoiding the pump track and dirt jumps at the farthest end of the wooded area. Not throwing over or into roads. Not bringing the steep hillside into play. It is apparent that safety was the primary concern (as it should be). I gave it a very low rating because of the many short holes but that doesn't mean you should avoid the course. It is worth playing if you are in town.
The college obviously took replacing the old object course seriously and hired an experienced designer, put in concrete tees, premium baskets and though they weren't there at the time of this review, signage will be installed. I wouldn't be surprised to see trees added to add some dimension to the first 6 holes that are almost obstacle free. It is a good start and hopefully leads to the City of Durango considering a disc golf course.

great object course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 30, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

playing this course takes some commitment to good putting. Half of the holes you are putting at a pole, the other half are fire hydrants that make a nice bell ring when you hit it. All tee boxes are visible from last pin and all pins are visible from the tees except 3 which you follow the dirt road. I make a lot of birdies here because it is short and generally open up high for spike hyzers, tomahawks, and thumbers. This is a great course to practice your game.

Cons:

there is no baskets, but nothing feels better than aceing of a six foot metal pole. 3 is definitely a con, it should be two seperate holes. I have seen one eagle, and rumors of the albatross, I dont believe it. During the school year there can be a fair amount of foot and bike traffic, but nothing that holds you up too long.

Other Thoughts:

This is the busiest course ever when school is in. In the summer it is nice and quiet.

fun but needs baskets 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 7, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This used to be my home course as I lived about 5 minutes away for 7 years. played it almost daily and have many fond memories but i will try to be unbiased.

the course is really fun to play, the holes are laid out nicely requiring a good variety of shots, only struggle is you will never figure the course out until you play with someone who knows it. most holes are in the 200-350 ft. range making it short but great for working on your short game and many holes are ace-able. there are two holes that are long (#3 and #18). Several holes on the course would be rated very highly if only they had baskets.

If you going during the summer midday there will be no one out there.

the sticks that are the holes actually will make your putting better when you get to play on a basket course.

Cons:

no baskets, no tee pads, impossible to figure it out unless you have someone to show you.

Hole 3 sucks...plain and simple.

During the school year parking can be hard to find and you risk getting ticketed. The course is also very crowded during the school year with FLC students doing extracurricular activities. The kids mountain bike team that practices here has no respect for others using the property and will setup right in the middle of the holes and not move out of the way as well as their parents parking on the road right in the middle of a couple holes and right beside hole 18.

Other Thoughts:

This course is really fun if you know how to play it and dont come expecting a world class course with concrete pads and baskets. It is just a fun course that students set up along time ago on a piece of land on school property. There are lots of others using the property for bmxing, mountain biking, joggging, etc. so respect them. If you see trash on the property please pick it up and throw it away. Most decent players can play at even or below which is good for the ego.
