A Fantastic Compliment to Grand Vue 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 28, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

+ 18-Hole Layout Designed by 4X World Champion Johnny Sias: Mostly open holes on an old ball golf course with elevation being the key feature that challenges players.

+ Innova Discatcher Baskets: These targets are sturdy and catch putts well. Several baskets have flags for visibility and help with reading the wind.

+ Tees: Two sets of tees (long & short) are marked. While these tees are natural they do provide a liberal amount of space to take your drive. They are all flat with signage that provides accurate pars and distances.

+ Landscape: Aside from being a beautiful property the rolling hills of Grand Vue Park make for some challenging golf. Elevation is used to force players to consider shaping shots that hit specific landing zones in order to score well.

+ Northern Panhandle Disc Golf Association: The locals that take care of the park are friendly and dedicated. Be sure to check out their events including the Grand Vue Championship. This is an annual sanctioned event held in late summer.

+ Home of the West Virginia Disc Golf Hall of Fame: Many vintage discs are on display. This exhibit gives visitors a look into the history of the game and the development of flying discs.

+ Location: Grand Vue Park is close to shopping, lodging, restaurants, and entertainment for traveling players.

+ Proximity to Other Courses: Aside from having other courses on the property the White Course is within driving distance from other quality layouts in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia including Brooke Hills Park and Tomlinson Run. Looking into Ohio you have courses in Saint Clairsville and Morristown to the west as well as Scenic Vista and Thompson Park further north. There are plenty of great courses in and around Pittsburgh as well.

+ Extra Amenities: Grand Vue Park boasts plenty of extras such as cabins, camp sites, playgrounds, swimming pool, rest room, biking, zip line & ropes course, mini golf, hiking trails, ice cream parlor, bar/restaurant, and two (2) additional disc golf courses.

Cons:

- Tee Pads: These are natural tees that can be muddy or slippery after some precipitation. Step to the side and ensure you have solid footing before ripping a big drive. I'm told that tee pads are in the works so proper pads will only improve this course.

- Navigation: While tee signs are accurate out-of-towners may have difficulty navigating this course. Be sure to use a map or reach out to locals that may help guide your first play through. Navigational signs are at a minimum here.

Other Thoughts:

This course will likely be redesigned before a permanent layout is selected. The park may end up adding additional lodging options which could alter the flow of the White Course so some tees and baskets could move. Once permanent this course will be an absolute gem!

I would not recommend beginners play the White Course as the distance and elevation make it fairly challenging. More experienced golfers will thoroughly enjoy this layout. It compliments the other two courses at the park and serves as a the intermediate course in terms of difficulty. I think of it as the little brother of the Black Course.

This layout is one that demands smart play. The elevation will require shots that hit specific landing zones from the tee to be in scoring position. Angle control is another consideration when shaping shots as fairways and greens have slopes that can be punishing if you're not careful. This layout is fairly open so distance control is a must. Be prepared to read the wind as well.

A great intermediate course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 10, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course uses the hills of the park to take what appears on paper to be a simple par 3 and make it a lot harder by going up a steep hill. The fairways were is really good shape and even as a beginner I felt like I had a chance for par on each hole.

Cons:

No tee pads yet and no permanent signs, if they put those in it would go a long way for the course. Plus some signs indicating a direction to the next tee box would be great. Not a lot of variety on the course, most hole are wide open and either up or down hill.

Other Thoughts:

It's the little sister to the Black Course. Its a great complement to the yellow and black. I think even 2 more wooded holes would have made it amazing. I live close enough that the white would be worth the drive but if you're coming from a long distance, play the black.
