Great Beginner Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 21, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Good baskets, and I believe tees were re-poured during last summer's improvements. They are in perfect condition, except one is backwards, but that matters little on such a short course.
-Well-trimmed, it's nearly impossible to lose a disc.
-Enough interest in the design, especially on 7, 8, and 9.
-Serves its purpose well as a course for beginners or a warmup for more seasoned players before the full 18.
-Makes good use of elevation.
-Facilities (full bathrooms, water fountains, snacks) provided by awesome new ski chalet.

Cons:

-Signs on tees were not updated for new distances.
-No signage between holes, which would be helpful between 3 and 4, and 6 and 7.
-A couple holes end up feeling pretty similar.
-Have to pay full admission even if you aren't playing the championship 18.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, it's a good course. It's short, and that's just fine. 1-3 play along ground level, then 4-6 go back and forth up the hill. 7 now starts out of a depression and plays into some trees, 8 plays through those trees for some challenge, and 9 comes down the hill for a pretty cool finish. The whole place is very well-maintained. The elevation is used well as it climbs the hill slowly and beginners won't have to go too far uphill on any hole, but still get to go all the way down on 9. I'd suggest it for anyone playing the 18-holer.

Mini Hyland 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 10, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Nice labeled concrete tees
- Nice new baskets
- Scorecards with map in the clubhouse
- Well maintained
- Good use of elevation changes
- Nearly impossible to lose a disc. No real rough or foliage or wooded shots to worry about.
- Beginner friendly course
- Ace/Birdie opportunities on every hole
- Hole 9 is 340 feet downhill so you get some of the "bomb it down the ski slope" feel if you are newer to the game. Fun to sail putters and mid ranges down the slope if you are more advanced.
- Nice clubhouse with bathrooms, water fountains, prepared food, beverages, and a pro shop with decent selection of the more popular discs.
- Fast play, only took 30 minutes for a pair of us to finish
- Low traffic. People seem to avoid the strenuous hilly course anyway, and those that do come to play it usually end up playing the 18 hole course.

Cons:

- Pay to play for basically a rec course. Not a huge deal if you have the season pass or play the 18 hole course in addition to this one, but the only reason to play this instead of a public park course is the downhill #9 shot.
- No real thought on shots, very open course with few, if any, obstacles or risk/reward consideration. Just be cautious of throwing discs that can turn into rollers.
- Not a ton of variety between holes. Basically either uphill, across the hill, or downhill and about the same distances. Besides #3 and #9, the holes only vary from 165-215 feet.
- Longest hole is 340 feet downhill. If you have a big arm, play the championship 18 course on the same grounds
- #7 and #8 play exactly the same, horizontal on the ski slope. Only difference is that #7 is 165' and #8 is 215'.
- Since the course is on the slope, windy days will be brutal with an updraft, downdraft, or crosswind depending on the direction of the wind
- Seasonal course, so you winter golfers can't play during that time, as it will be a ski & snowboard area.

Other Thoughts:

Good warmup course or a nice course to practice certain shots on since you can do just about any shot on every hole. Also a good Ace run course since it's well within the realm of possibility to get an ace on any of the holes.
