Pros:
- VERY unique hole design. Not just on one hole but literally ALL of them.
- The Mach X baskets - while I've always thought these baskets are quite ugly they do catch nicely and with the orange banding can be seen from quite a ways away
- I really liked the changing mando concept on #7. I think this could be interesting having the mandos change now and then. It makes sense since so many courses have multiple pin and tee locations.
- I really appreciated #9 for its rather "normal" dg hole feel after surviving tne prior 8 holes of weirdness.
- The signage is great. Told me exactly what I needed to know in every situation.
Cons:
You locals who love this place might want to skip this part...
- Safety issues... #2 winds up ridiculously close to a playground. Not a fan of the mando on 4 that is supposed to prevent folks from throwing over the #5 tee. Also not a big fan of the close proximity of the holes next to the ball fields. Then again, these baseball fields look like they never get used so...maybe that isn't an issue?
- These tee pads are brick pavers and quite small. I don't see these pavers lasting a long time in their current level state.
- The elevated tee on #2 needs work. I've had a broken ankle and I refuse to tee off of bare wood like that especially when its wet. I realize there is grip tape on it but there just isn't nearly enough to make me comfortable.
- The hanging basket needs higher steps. Short people are going to positively hate this basket.
Other Thoughts:
For what it is, Jones Park is a super duper quirky course and not something to be taken super duper seriously. The safety issues I've pointed out may or may not be an issue. I guess it all depends on whether or not the baseball fields are being used and how many kiddos are actually visiting the playground. You'll never see something like a serious PDGA tourney being held on a course like this but there is a pretty popular doubles league that plays here once a week.
