Retro Course Design, Unique Style

Reviewed: Played on:May 25, 2024 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

WHAT TO EXPECT: Massive park complex with a secluded section for disc golf in the very back. Mildly wooded with massive Cedar trees forcing all sorts of angles. Roughly 9 holes offer both short and long tee pad locations, with a few offering moveable pin locations (one set of baskets)

AMENITIES: There were portable toilets near #1 tee pad, a water house spicket near the course sign, and a full sports field complex a couple hundred feet away that appeared to have more modern facilities. Course does play inside of a paved walking trail but rarely was an issue. Couple park benches along the trail throughout.

TEES/SIGNAGE/BASKETS: Large course map showing both long and short layouts next to parking lot. 5' x 10' concrete tees in old but still nice shape. I could see them possibly being slick in wet weather with how worn they are, but I didn't have any issues. Tee signs are typical HB Clark signs with excellent information, hole map, and full color layout. Baskets are aging grey Prodigy baskets that still catch like Prodigy's do. Several holes offer both long and short tee pad locations.

DESIGN: This course is very old and probably one of the oldest in the Bowling Green area at over 40 years old at this point. This course was designed and installed long before disc technology came to what it is today so there are some very short holes (from the short tees). It appears as though long tees were added later on to make the course more challenging and to lengthen it. From the longs, the massive growth of the cedars and the added distance and sharp fairway angles make the course considerably more difficult than the short layout. That said, Advanced players and Pros should still shred this course. As with most old designs, the holes play often parallel to each other, with errant shots sharing fairways and the risk of hitting other golfers when it is crowded is greater than zero. Multiple blind basket locations add to the chance of throwing in on someone. This course really is a showcase of old school course design with emphasis on shot shaping ability, distance control, and scrambling. Nothing at all like modern designs.

EXTRAS: This is a beautiful park for what it is, and for lacking any real water features or stunning horizon background to set it off. Rolling hills and massive old growth trees help you feel less like you are in a park and more like you are out in nature.

Cons:

WORN TEE PADS: As mentioned earlier the tees are showing wear and signs of age and could be very slick in wet conditions.

AGING SIGNAGE: Some of the tee signs, though well done, are probably the original signs from the early 80's and could use a modern upgrade. There is a next tee arrow on the hole map on the tee sign, but this doesn't always equate to the newer "long" tee pad location.

LOST DISC POTENTIAL: There are some seriously thick and massive cedars on the course waiting to eat your disc. Most fairways are mowed short with tall grass left high as boundaries to shape the holes on its borders. While it looks good, it makes for a lot of trudging through tall grass to locate plastic.

ROOM TO GROW: Unfortunately, the long tees are pretty much the end of "lengthening" the course. So it will remain a shorter, tweener style course that the big arms can exploit.

Other Thoughts:

This course evokes a nostalgia feel. While it still poses a decent challenge to the less advanced players, it doesn't quite have the teeth it used to. This throwback avoids big distance, more open course design that most newer parks go far and instead chooses to force you to showcase, touch, angle, and control. I love courses like this and would play often if I was local. Hard course to rate, as the aging infrastructure and lack of modern amenities hurts the overall score. Falls somewhere in between a 3.0 and a 3.5 for me with little potential to improve much beyond that.

Solid but not exceptional 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 11, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good tees, baskets, and signage.
Never spent much time finding the next hole even though it was my first time playing this course.
Good use of elevation change.
Well defined fairways.

Cons:

Low density of trees made it possible to get away with shots that did not come out as intended.

Other Thoughts:

Having long tees or pins to create a harder difficulty option was good, but only half the holes had them.

__________________________________________________

Design- This course is old. Seriously old. Built in 1983 per history section on DGCR. As such, the design is not the same as modern design. Holes play almost on top of each other in many places. You really need to keep your head on a swivel out there when the course is busy. We got accidentally thrown on several times by players on other holes. All Par 3s out there, although several are near impossible to get to for the 2 (I'm looking at you hole 5 long). Regardless of safety, the course is rather fun and includes many really neat/multiple lines to difficult baskets like hole 17.

Teepads- Most holes have both short and long teepads. I played the longs. Teepad size is about 5x10 I believe. Most holes arent incredibly long, so I don't feel that they need to be bigger, but some people will mark that against them. The teepads are worn, though. Likely due to how much the course is played.

Baskets: Prodigy T2s? They catch well if you are on target with a firm putt. If you are a soft putter and hit outside chains, you will hate them. Only improvement here is that Long and Short baskets should be different colors.

Beauty- Pretty neat place. In a fairly large town, but feels like you are roughing it in the woods. Large old growth trees everywhere that are very grabby. Rolling hills perfect for DG.

Amenities- Many people don't rate a course based on amenities. However, I do include it in my equation. Bathrooms available, but a pretty far walk to them from hole 1. Teesigns are probably as old as the course and it shows. No next tee signs anywhere. There might be 2 or 3 benches on the entire course. This is fine for a casual round, but a big tournament rounds, more seating would be great.

Fun Factor- This course provides lots of smiles. Neat over the top shots. Cool tunnel shots (hole 17). Good mix of short and long holes even from the longs.

Cons:

Addressed above.

Other Thoughts:

I really do like this course and I wish it was in my back yard. This course 30 years ago would be top notch and probably a top 100 course. It is ancient and respected. With newer design and bigger courses, we are all a little Jaded I believe. This course used to be a juggernaut, but now retiring into a fun casual course.

My biggest room for improvement is probably signage and more benches.

Thanks to all of the locals for keeping up with all of these courses. Can't believe how lucky you are to have so many courses just a short drive away from each other.

Beautiful Nine then Typical Nine 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 8, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

A green, shot-shaping track with a weaker second half.

-Amenities: Concrete tees (just a tad small), HB Clark-style signs with map, blue prodigies. Course kiosk, practice basket, and porta potty.

-Natural Beauty: This may not be a nature preserve, but it's a nice park. Lush, evergreen trees and mowed fairways stretch over moderate hills through most of the course.

-Navigation: The presence of mowed paths marks the way from one basket to the next tee.

-Shot Shaping/Gameplay: Skillful use of trees. Lots of gaps present fun shapes and require commitment and variety of shots. This is the best sample of HB Clark's work that I've had yet. This includes open shots ending with low-ceiling greens, par-4s starting with a gap and ending down a hill where it's easy to overshoot a basket, and several shorter par-3s that are more rec-friendly. This is especially true on the front nine, which would easily fit in on an Excellent-level course. The back half is more open and the creativity of lines goes down, featuring more straight shots. I peg the difficulty as intermediate between distance and some awkward guarding trees. Multiple holes have fun downhills.

-Upkeep: The course seems cared for. The grass is in good shape, as is the equipment.

-Multi-Tees/Baskets: There are several holes with alternate tees. Hole (3) looks like it has two permanent baskets as well.

-9 & 9: The course is arranged in two loops for easy breaks.

Cons:

A couple of issues, not including being hard to spell.

-Back Half: The creativity is great on the first half. The second half is pretty boring, just straight shots with scattered giant trees and bushes. A couple on the back half - (16)-(17) - have downright unfair lines.

-Disc Grabbers: Hitting any part of a pine tree sentences you to a straight drop into a place you may or may not be able to throw out of. Thus, even though there isn't much rough out here, it is disproportionately powerful and annoying.

-Walkers: The number of dog walkers rambling the course is high. Causes delays.

-Tee Size: A little small to get a good run-up.

Other Thoughts:

Kereiakes is a well-stocked park (typical of HB Clark) with overall good design (also typical). Unfortunately, I find at many Clark tracks that parts of the design bring the course back, and I feel that's the case here. Or perhaps it's the landscape that renders the back nine a letdown after a stellar front nine. Whatever the case, Kereiakes is still a Very Good course that will please shot shapers and provide a relaxing natural environment.

Of a past generation 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 21, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

- The landscape is quite well taken care of and has a certain charm to it. The course is made up of small, rolling hills with mature trees throughout. The grass was very thick but well-kept, with about 2 inch depth on the fairways and 4-6 inches in the "rough". Overall, it's very green and pleasant looking. The park is very clean and well taken care of
- The baskets are solid, and there are multiple, permanent pins on several holes. Concrete tee pads are perfectly fine though in a tournament I could see how 1 and 10 sharing a tee pad could be a bit strange. Tee signs are pretty good, though not the best maps I've seen either.
- There's a decent mix of shots here, though as you'll see in the cons they aren't really always great/fun shots to throw. The elevation changes give it some additional variety. With the elevation, there are 1 or 2 tee shots that are a lot of fun that I wanted to throw multiple times

Cons:

*Note - I only played longs. I can't comment about the shorts, but I expect it will be similar but just more forgiving. So maybe more scoring separation because more birdie 2's will be feasible for more players*

- Overall, the course just doesn't really offer a lot of excitement. Most of the holes are a tight, low ceiling gap between mature trees with really no other danger to speak of. Because of the low ceilings and some of the general fairway shapes, a lot of the holes that could be quite interesting just really aren't because the line to the basket just isn't a natural shot. I'm all about tight and technical courses (generally wooded ones) but this course just didn't really do it for me. Most holes had a single, specific way to approach them through a tight gap. On many, if the ceiling was just a bit higher they'd be a lot more fun to try and throw a flex shot to the pin.
- Because of the above, I can't see this course offering a ton of scoring separation. Throw a difficult perfect tee shot? You might have a birdie putt. Throw a very good shot that isn't perfect? Easy 3. Throw a bad shot? Easy 3. Throw a terrible shot? Well, still most likely an easy 3. There really isn't any rough to get caught up in, so while tee shots can be tight, you don't get the scrambling aspect you get in more wooded courses. The most punishment you're going to get is being under a large tree that has low hanging branches
- The course is pretty compact in a fairly small area for 18 holes. While it's designed pretty well to keep the walking paths and other fairways mostly out of play, there certainly is a possibility on many holes of an errant shot hitting someone.

Other Thoughts:

This course has been around for a LONG time. When I started playing in the 90's, this course would have been a lot of fun and would have certainly gotten a higher grade from me as it would have been a pretty typical course of the time just with a bit more elevation and a beautiful green landscape. However, in especially the past decade or so, course design and the sport, in general, have evolved significantly. I just don't see this course challenging top-level players in a meaningful way these days.
For newer players learning to throw, this course would be great.

A Strike in Bowling Green 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 21, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is a fun course. It is not too difficult, yet also forces you to hit some fairly technical throws. It is a good course for all skill levels, and everyone can get something out of a round here.

The course itself is in a park with some trees. I wouldn't consider it a "wooded" course, but there are too many trees for it to be considered "open." It falls somewhere in the middle, and the trees are used really well to force you to shape shots. The elevation is also taken advantage of.

There are some holes with two tees, and a couple holes with two baskets. The layout was clearly shown on a map at the beginning of the course, and each tee has a map of the pin(s). The baskets catch discs well, and the teepads are appropriately sized for the course. An added bonus, a fairway strip is mowed shorter than the "rough", so it is easy to follow where the holes are supposed to go.

There are a lot of good holes, but I am a sucker for downhill bombs with "the look," so my standout hole on this course is #11. Around 350' long on a slight downhill lie, you can let it rip and go for the ace run or glide it down and go for the birdie.

Cons:

Kereiakes does a good job of using the trees as obstacles on the course. However, in my opinion, the trees are almost too good at their job... There are several holes where trees are in a location providing no clear way to make a disc from far out. Hole 10 is the most egregious example, with the basket within the envelope of two large evergreen trees. I do like how the trees were used to add some difficulty to the course, but I think they could have been used a little better.

Besides that, only a couple minor complaints. The baskets, even though they catch well, are a little hard to see and are showing their age. There are a couple of benches around the course, but there could be a couple more near the teepads for more crowded days.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, this is a good, solid course. It has been an excellent stop on a roadtrip to get out for an hour and play. Some improvements could be made, but overall I would recommend playing this course a lot if I were local, and giving it the occasional stop if you are passing through.

Old School Cool 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 6, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Kereiakes Park is a really nice course. It has plenty of trees, well manicured grass covered fairways, and good equipment throughout. Half a dozen holes offer long tees, and many have alternate pin locations. A few of them feature mild to moderate elevation changes.

All holes play par 3 (except for hole 3 if the pin is in the long position, per the sign), and most of them have enough wood along the way to require specific shaped lines to get birdie looks. Some have more airspace to work with than others, or multiple lines to choose from, but if you don't find the right combo of distance and direction you might end up stuck in a tree or attempting a long upshot.

There is usually a decent chance to reach from the tee and have a birdie putt. However, a couple of the holes are tough enough that it is best to go conservative and play for a par. The one that got me was hole 7, a great hole that was probably my favorite on the course. It has some of the heaviest rough lurking on the right side, and the largest elevation drop as you approach the pin.

Hole 11 is fun, downhill steadily, and with a good chance to launch a drive right next to the bucket.
I also liked hole 15, which lies on the edge of the park and has a few more trees than is usual for this course.

18 is a tough one, it sent me out with a bogey. One of several that tempted me to leave my comfort zone and try using a forehand throw. I did try a few on shorter holes, but don't have the distance to go side arm here.

Front and back nine begin and end by the parking lot, if you haven't got time for 18, or just aren't into playing it in conventional sequence. Balance is equal, I didn't favor one over the other after playing it once. Layout is fairly logical, and easy to follow, without any long walks between holes.

Cons:

There are not any par 4's or 5's, like you will find on a lot of newer courses. If you want to be pushed to the limits strategically and physically, you may have to switch to your off hand. A great course for new players to learn the game, but not a pro caliber layout.

There were a lot of people enjoying the course when I played. I was blessed with terrific fall weather on a Sunday afternoon. I only mention this in the cons since it resulted in waiting on several large groups to finish up and hoping they are courteous enough to let me play through.

Other Thoughts:

I can see the appeal of Kereiakes after playing a round there. It is a great blend of technical and fun. The feel of a very well established course that harkens back to the early days of the sport, with a few modifications to keep up with modern advancements.

I like to play the long tees usually, but I didn't pay close enough attention, and missed one or two of them. At the end of the day I was one over par on the round, but there is plenty of room for improvement.

I took a bogey on the first hole that was absurd, it really should have been a birdie considering it was one where I overlooked the long tee. Managed to make 3 birdies, but bogies on 17 and 18 pushed me back over par.

I can see why Kereiakes Park has received so many good reviews. If I lived nearby I would play it often I am certain. Very well worth a visit if you make it to the vicinity of Bowling Green, KY.

Heaven In Kentucky 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 14, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The course is deceptively difficult. It appears to have very open fairways and looks somewhat like a ball golf course, but there are huge mature fir trees lining every fairway. There is a good mix of left and right shots and a variety of length, and the course is fair to everyone with great shot making ability.

Nonetheless, this is a very difficult course that will penalize you deeply for errant shots, catching you in those pines and forcing you into difficult second shots to approach.

Further adding to the difficulty are some of the best protected greens I've ever seen. While not densely wooded--and there are a couple of holes near the end that wind into the woods--there is an enormous 4 trunk tree guarding the green to #7, and the guarded green on #10 borders on being unfair. You either have to take tight low shots just to lay up close to the pin for your pars, or you can try to be a hero with spike shots around the foliage, which will require you to take it high, into wind, and is a great risk of bogie for trying to chip in those 100-200 foot upshots.

Cons:

I see little in the way of cons for this course. It was my favorite by far of the three I played in Bowling Green.

Other Thoughts:

Mammoth Cave is nearby and there was a great place called Baker Street in town when I visited. It's a nice family vacation place and is highly recommended. The only thing that keeps it from getting a perfect rating is the relative lack of elevation, but that's a small quibble considering how tough those seemingly open fairways are.

Those wide open courses in AZ could take a cue from this course designer and look for places with more natural obstacles to avoid the silly trap of having arbitrary and artificial OB fouling up their tournaments.

The beauty in town 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 11, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

With its rolling valley elevations, numerous cedars, and well-thought-out front and back nines, the Kereiakes disc golf course is an obvious addition to the schedule for advanced players for the annual Bowling Green Amateur Championships. Though most of the holes do have trees capable of grabbing and holding your disc, there are fairways and lines on every hole that reward a skillful shot, if you can hit it. Distances range from the 190 foot hole one (from the short tee), where you will 'misunderestimate' the course, to the 435 foot, downhill, right-bending bomber on hole 3. Most of the holes actually range between the upper 200's from the shorts, to the lower 300's from the longs, but the course never becomes repetitive. It seems each hole has an interesting bend, rise, drop, or lane of its own.

Because there are nine holes having dual teepads and three holes having not just alternate pin positions, but second baskets permanently installed, you could play Kereiakes many times over without it becoming stale. Obviously, this well-cared for course has quality concrete tee pads (26 of them: 1 & 10 long connect), DGA baskets in good repair, a course map and shelter at the beginning, and the quality BG club signage on every hole.

The course plays at the back of a park that has ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, and other attractions, but is well separated from almost all of these other functions (see cons). There is a walking/ jogging track that loops around the perimeter of the course.

In all, Kereiakes is a beautiful course to play, especially in the spring, and the flight of the disc through the lines and gaps (and hopefully not into the trees) really shows off the three-dimensionality of our sport.

Cons:

The jogging track doesn't always seem to 'contain' the joggers. The appeal of the rolling valleys and gentle fairways is just too attractive to cross country runners, one of whom we had to wait on for a few throws, even on the Friday morning of the big event (BG Ams).

Though maintenance is solid, and I've only played here in the spring (before the grasses of the 'rough' grew to summer heights), it has been mentioned that the parks department could help a bit by mowing the course in its entirety (at least every few times), and not just along the fairways.

Other Thoughts:

I've now been playing long enough to have come to three BG Ams. Each time, though I was eligible to move up to my age group (Advanced Grandmasters), I looked online and was intimidated enough by the length and challenge of the four upper division courses to elect to stay with my rating (Recreational, for now). After coming to Kereiakes for a look-see, I may just have to play up next time. It's just that much more fun than say, Ephram White!

1. Rough was a little high but not really that bad

2. Discs could get stuck in the very large mature trees

This course has a lot of really tight lines which for better or worse can be avoided by throwing over the top of them. I enjoyed it but this was stop #4 on our 111 hole day and on a normal day playing only 1 or 2 courses I don't think I would have wanted to throw overhanded that much. this course is sort of short so you can whip thru it in a short amount of time if you don't have to search for discs that long. It took 2 avg disc golfers 1:16 minutes to play but we were jogging a lot so I'd say on avg 1:30

Pros:

Kereiakes is a moderately hilly course with mature trees and cedars to navigate on nearly every hole that are waiting to knock down your shot. There are nice concrete tees, the baskets are in good condition and there are tee signs on every hole. Navigating the course is relatively easy. There are rolling hills on the course so some elevation comes into play on most holes.

About half the holes have a long and short option. Sometimes there are dual pads while other holes have two baskets in the ground. These alternates change the shot on almost every hole they appear and it's a great way to cater to a wider variety of players.

The most interesting thing about this course from a design standpoint is a number of the holes are fairly open but utilize the trees and cedars well to present a challenge. Sometimes the trees present early trouble, other times they guard the basket. If you miss your line a tree will knock your shot down and cedars will suck them up and you have to hope you don't land behind or inside it.

I like the shot variety here, there is a good balance of straight, hyzer and anhyzer shots for a RHBH player. The holes with long/short option often require a different shot. The course also has a good variety of distances. The longs obviously provide more length if that's what you prefer and newer players will appreciate the shorts.

Cons:

Hole 10's basket seems overly protected sandwiched between two trees with low hanging branches in the gap making a difficult putt even from a great landing spot.

The parks dept apparently likes to cut a path about 10ft wide from the tee to the basket. I'm all for saving money, but more really needs to be cut as you approach the basket. It's a little frustrating to have to look for a disc that knifed into the tall grass when you're inside the 10m circle.

A few holes play a bit close to the walking path that encircles the course. With all the big cedars it isn't always easy to tell if someone is coming so please be extra cautious.

A couple of the holes play fairly close together so an errant shot can easily end up in another fairway.

The diagram on the tee signs is less than accurate and doesn't always do a good job illustrating where the basket should be.

The tee sign on hole 9 is blocking the anhyzer route. There's a silly mando there to keep you from throwing that route.

Other Thoughts:

This is my favorite course in BG (if you don't count Holler just north of town). This is a good course for everyone. It's beginner friendly in that there's no rough and the only way to lose a disc is to get it stuck in a cedar. It's also a fun course for a more advanced player because the course rewards skilled shots with birdies and often punishes bad shots.

Pros:

Well after 100+ rounds here I finally feel qualified to write a review

-This is a very fair course. Although there are many velcro trees that will catch your disc, there is always a defined fairway and if you hit your gap, you will not be punished by a random branch
-From the longs this is a challenging course for pros and ams alike. a 1000 rated round hovers around 49 from the longs.
-From the shorts, this course still has challenges but is more beginner friendly. A newer player can definitely still score here. This is probably the most popular course for college students because of its proximity to campus and entertainment value.
-Good not great teepads on every single hole. Trashcans are spread throughout the course. Portapotty by hole 1 and full bathrooms a short walk or drive from the course inside the park.
-I touched this earlier but there are 6 long tees and 3 long baskets (in addition to short baskets) that make the difference between shorts and longs very noticable. definitely a different experience.

Cons:

-The Parks dept. thinks we like to have the "fairways" mown and the rest of the grass tall. Nobody likes it like this. You can throw a good shot and have to look 5 minutes in the open because the grass is so long. it's hard to walk through as well.
-There are a couple poorly designed holes where a disc can hit a runner/walker on the gravel path. This path plays OB on the course but that doesn't mean someone won't get hit. Hole 12 comes to mind.
-Cross country runners run throughout the holes in addition to the people on the defined track. Sometimes this isn't a problem. Sometimes you have to wait a second. Other times, like during XC practice, you have to wait on multiple holes for the runners to pass. And sometimes they are blind until they are right in the fairway so if its just one runner you might not notice them until its too late.

Other Thoughts:

I really love this course. Its a challenging, fun course from the longs (for me). The shorts are a little boring to advanced and pro players but others will really enjoy them.

Very nice course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 14, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Every shot in the book (aside from distance drives)
-hyzer/anny/bh/fh all needed
-risk/reward with the VERY catchy trees if you go over the top.
-line shaping is important

Cons:

-VERY catchy trees, i nearly lost a disc 40' up in one (yes, i was doing a spike hyzer around the hole, risk/reward)
-no big long holes where a driver was needed, used putter, mid, fairway is all
-lots of runners/walkers on the trail. They all seemed quite aware of disc golf, and enjoyed to watch, but still had to wait many times over the round for them to pass.

Other Thoughts:

This was my overall favorite course in bowling green. It was tough, but if you hit the right lines you can score well.
Planning a trip to BG? definitely play this one. I would have scored a few shots lower if I had a FH, as a few holes really called for one.

Home Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 7, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Yakis is one of the courses you must play, if you visit BG KY. The 1st course I ever played was Hobson Grove. As soon as I finished that round, I asked where other courses were in the area. I was told about Yakis, and immediately went there and fell in love with Disc Golf. Manicured, mowed fairways are the first thing you notice. The course design has been altered over the years by seasoned pros, and offers 6 Pro Tee Pads throughout the course, as well as 3 holes with 2 permanent basket options. I have played this course over 1,000 times, including several rounds with some of the best disc golfers in the world. I'm going to review these holes from the Pro Tee Pads, and Long Basket placements. The mature pine, and cedar trees line the fairways to create natural gaps for most the holes...you used to be able to throw over top, and had a lot more room through the gaps. Now, you must play the gaps on most holes unless you have a big gun to go over top. I learned to throw rollers here, because I got sick of climbing trees. Hole 1 is nice starting hole with 2 guardian trees by the basket toward the end (but not within 30 ft around basket) Hole 2...400+ ft hole which a lot of folks use sky rollers, it's open the first 300 ft with a 100 foot lined pine tree gap to the basket towards the end. Hole 3......difficult 400ft slow anhyzer through pine tree mowed fairway gap downhill to an open landing zone. Hole 4....short, right sloped cedar tree lined fairway...throw low and ride the skip to the basket:) Hole 5...450' anhyzer uphill with cedar trees lining the fairway....Hole 6....350' straight, low tunnel, slight uphill, pine tree lined fairway all the way to the basket....get a roller down quick, and it will work:) Hole 7.....blind downhill 350' anhyzer with one of the biggest, coolest trees guarding the basket....a beat roc or mako usually does the trick if thrown well...Hole 8...slope left cedar lined fairway, slight 275" anhyzer.....I throw a roller here too because of the perfect slope (a basic anhyzer or forehand does well too). Hole 9...throw a low hyzer down the pine tree lined fairway, and watch it skip to the hole (or throw a roller like I do, and always have a look. Hole 10....nice 300' anhyzer to a tightly guarded basket in between 2 cedar trees. Hole 11.....just throw something straight about 325' and watch it sail down to the bottom. Hole 12, slight uphill hyzer (or anhyzer) plays 375', cedar lined fairway. Hole 13, short, slight downhill, fast green, hyzer or anhyzer around group of mature pine trees....or firebird spike hyzer over the top:) Hole 14....slight up hill plays 350'....cedar lined fairways, opens up at end near the basket. Hole 15....straight 340' tight early gap....mature hardwoods.....fairly low ceiling. Hole 16....350' slight downhill with mature cedar trees at the end that like to catch your disc....power hyzer around and get an uphill putt if possible. Hole 17 is the best hole imo...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3WxP0r8oMg or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBRo5ZoyGLY Hole 18....low tunnel....375' slight anhyzer.....low ceiling, cedar lined mowed fairway....get a roller down quick, or throw a forehand....good finishing hole. Great Course!!

Cons:

I get way too distracted by the scenery...too many good looking women walking around the popular walking track around the course:) The baskets, and signage could use some updating, but other than that, this is a great tournament course, that offers a wide variety of shots and options. The mature cedars and pines might get amateurs frustrated, but that's how I learned to throw rollers there:)

Other Thoughts:

Play this course, and hit me up if you're near....I'm only 2 minutes away.Great safari course, and it's also the best course for glow rounds:)

One of the best in the Area 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 30, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a very well manicured park with a well manicured course. There is a distinct mowed path to everyone of the holes, with slightly longer grass surrounding the fairway. This course will test every part of your game and if you are not able to throw all the shots necessary some of the holes may be difficult. I enjoyed the various array of low shots, spike hyzers, rollers and various other precise shots necessary to score well on this course.

Cons:

Some of the baskets aren't in the best shape, but this is only on a couple of the holes.

Other Thoughts:

I have played a lot of the best courses in this area and this course ranks right up there with the best, if you are looking to play a great round of disc golf while visiting Bowling Green be sure to stop here.

Best in BG 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 30, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great course that requires all the shots. I am a pretty balanced player as far as forehands and backhands and this course was also balanced in that area. Some holes you have to manage and go with a good spot instead of being as close to the basket as possible and I think that's a good quality in a course. The latest reviews said the course was in bad shape but I didn't find it to be in bad shape at all. The course isn't heavily wooded but there are definitely enough trees to get in your way. There is good length if you play the long tees/baskets. The teepads were good and the signage was adequate. The flow of the course was good and could find all tees easily.

Cons:

The shorter baskets and the baskets on the holes with only 1 are in rough shape. They were not a problem for me as a lot of the long baskets looked newer but it could be bothering if you're playing the short baskets. Also, there are a ton of bugs in the winter, that can be annoying, even if you have bug spray on.

Other Thoughts:

I played 2 other courses in bowling green that were rated close to kereiakes in lovers lane and the technical college, and this one turned out to be better than the other two and it really wasn't that close. If you're in bowling green looking to play, make sure you find this one.

Way overrated course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 17, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Love the tricky holes. decent blend of tree placement and obstacles.

Cons:

Terrible markings. Some down right boring holes. From the reviews I expected more.

Other Thoughts:

Drive to Madisonville instead and find a gem of a course. This one is average.
