Technical with length 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 1, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Good signage like all BG courses, good tee pads, beautiful rolling hills, multiple tees on some holes, multiple baskets on a couple of holes,

Cons:

When we played it only stripped fairways were mowed, and 2 foot grass rough, not a personal problem but this will put some people off. I understand budget cuts in city and i like cut fairways.

Other Thoughts:

Kereiakes is a great course. Most tournaments the two meter rule is in effect so a nice addition would be trimming evergreens 3-4 feet from the ground. they did this in columbia, mo, so if you have to mark a lie in the tree at least you can get down in there

Needs a lot of help 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 2, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Short holes easy to find, grass is mowed

Cons:

You are crowded into a small course, if you miss a line you are in another holes fare way what is very easy to do. the cedar trees need to be trimmed they have over grown

Other Thoughts:

I know this is one of the older course in Bowling Green, I think it could use a lot of work to keep up with the other courses up there

Where's the beef? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 7, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

For some reason I expected a big beefy course...not sure why. To the contrary...most of these holes are fairly short...though very technical and smartly designed. Each hole had a very specific shot designed for it....flick, BH, even some I was sure demanded a BH roller. Fairly open I'd say..but still tight shots required...thick cedars are the main obstacles here...which are pretty unforgiving if you graze into one. I got stuck behind a few on very short putts...with no option but to lay up. It is a nicely manicured course...but not exceptionally beautiful to me. We played from the white tees..and still finished in less than 2 hrs...really a quick course to play and not get too exhausted...I could easily play 2 rounds here.

Cons:

Not too many for this course.... As others mentioned previously...the baskets are really old-school and rickety...but hey, they work, right?

Other Thoughts:

This is one of those courses that if you know it well...you could throw down some really low rounds...I'd say most holes are birdie-able for sure. Of course, my first time..I was still learning the lines and didn't shoot too well...however, when I threw a second drive...it was usually parked. Makes me want to come back and tackle it again. Overall...a really unique course.

Fun for all 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 29, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

This was a fun par 3 course. Offering both open 'easier' holes and tighter more difficult holes. The course was fairly short but still demanded accuracy to score well as several holes required dead straight shots off the tee to set up a deuce look or easy upshot. This course would be great for all skill levels as most holes allowed for any shot type although catered to a specific shot if you could pull it off. Course was well taken care of and offered good pads that were adequately long and had good grip. The signage was good and offered accurate descriptions of the holes and which pin was being played if multiple positions were available on that hole.

Cons:

Only a few cons - the course played inside a fairly busy walking path which presented a danger to walkers if both them and the thrower were not careful. Also, some of the holes played close to each other which presented danger on errant throws to other golfers. Then finally some of the baskets were dated, but not enough to affect overall play.

Other Thoughts:

This was a good course that was neither too challenging nor too easy. All skill levels can have fun here. The course requires a lot of dead straight shots which can be difficult to repeat consistently but offers a lot of fun ace runs. A good stop in the bowling green area.

A Must Play in KY 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 7, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

One of the Best courses in Bowling Green, there is a nice mix of technical and distance on most of the holes. The fairways are clearly defined, and a lot of the holes have alternative tee pads or an alternative pin placement. There is a nice shady pavilion near the first and tenth holes and a nice course map right by the parking lot. This is a course that definitely favors placement over distance. There is a fairly good mixture of BH and FH throws throughout, and there are even a few holes that you can reach with an overhand shot. The tee pads are nice and grippy, and the baskets catch well. The first 4 holes are nice ace runs from the short tees and are fun to unload your midranges on. Be careful though, the cedar trees are like Velcro to your discs. If you hit one, do not be surprised if it doesn't come down. Although sometimes, you might be lucky enough to knock a disc loose when you hit a tree. The practice basket and putting stones at different distances make for great putting practice and a fun game of Around The World with some friends before a round.

Cons:

Only a few gripes that I can think of. The baskets are almost all different, and most are really old, so hopefully they can get some new Chainstars or something there. The WKU cross country team practices on the running path that surrounds the course. The course can get a little crowded sometimes, since it is (in my opinion) the best course in Bowling Green.

Other Thoughts:

This was a fun course to play a glow round on. Day before the Halloween tournament, hope they do it again.

A quick round in the forest 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 21, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Most holes offered either a Pro and Am tee or A and B position basket. Nice concrete tees. Lots of variety.

Cons:

The tee signs were not posted in the proper spots and left me wondering where the fairway was half of the time. The baskets are old in poor shape on some holes.

Other Thoughts:

This course was fun to play. I got to throw a variety of shots. The basket for Hole 10 was heavily guarded by some trees and that was fun. An ace on that hole would be quite the feat. Several epic holes. Update the baskets and signs and I think you would have a 4.5-maybe even 5 disc course here.

Classic course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Course provides a stern challenge for every range of golfer. Large course map before the pavilion near number one and ten teepads. Open area with practice basket for putting with marker stones on the ground for ten different distances within the circle. Course utilizes elevation changes on almost all holes. Some downhills can be the chance for big drives but not without some accuracy. Solid mix of short and longer holes. Large teepads with good grip for solid footing even in wet conditions. Fairways are well defined with the cedars lining them keeping you pure on your lines otherwise you're probably not going to be fighting through to the basket. The fairways on the open holes are lined with tall grass which ranges from ankle/shin height to waist high in some places. Tree placements are fair and force the thrower to choose their routes. Underbrush isn't too thick that you can't advance your next shot towards the basket. Severals holes have pro tee pads to increase the distance. As of this review, the holes with alternate pin placements have both baskets in place (3, 5, 16).

Cons:

Not many that I can think of. Course may be cruel to beginners with the thickness of the cedar trees. It can get crowded as this is a very popular course in Bowling Green. Though its mostly been killed off, there is poison ivy underneath some trees and in the rough to the right of number 15. Bugs can also be an issue so be prepared for that. During the summer the parks department lets the grass along the fairways to grow in many places up to knee height.

Other Thoughts:

The running trail around the course may give some people a distraction with the people running around it. There's also trails that the WKU cross country team uses in the middle of the course that traverse several holes. These runners are almost always oblivious to disc golfers, so beware.

BG staple course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 25, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I love this course! This is top notch BG disc golf. Open holes galore, but very tricky due to disc catching cedars lining and blocking paths to almost every pin. Nice elevation changes, and the shelter between pins #1 and #10 offer great break time or to start up conversation with the awesome college locals. Well manicured fairways.

Cons:

Some holes do tend to seem a little repetitive. I miss the shelter canopy that used to be in the middle of one of the fairways on the back nine, it used to add such a cool obstacle, but now it's just open space and an easier to line to throw. Oh well. Not much else to bark at because this course is top notch.

Other Thoughts:

Watch your high throws, because if a cedar grabs them high up in the air you are throwing stuff at it to get it down or playing squirrel and climbing to get it. If you are ever in this disc golf heaven known as Bowling Green, this is a MUST course to play!!

Open yet tight, a dg conundrum 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 12, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Kereiakes is another beautiful park in Bowling Green, KY. The course has many cedar trees which serve as the main hazard on this course. The course plays up and down a valley so elevation definitely comes into play. Most of the holes have two sets of tees. The course loops back to the parking lot after hole 9. Holes 1 and 10 also sit next to a shelter house...breaktime! Nearly every hole can be birdied if you can keep your disc out of the cedars.

Cons:

More benches, more trashcans, and restrooms would be nice.

Other Thoughts:

This course sits close to Lover's Lane. The two make a terrific pair. The community garden is also cool to see in a public park.

The Smell of Cedar In The Morning 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 8, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

I love this course. It has enough topography to make the course challenging, unique, but very walkable and playable. The moderate tree coverage with well manicured fairways is my idea of a nice, urban style course. I wish this was my home course.

I love the smell of cedar in the morning.

Cons:

Can't really come up with any cons for this one. I guess a few of the holes were a little more open than I would prefer. It's not quite as challenging as some courses.

Yakis!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 26, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Good ol' Yakis!! I like the improvements the club has done over the years to keep this course at a pro level challenge. I have played this course over 500 times since the late 90's....it's very special to me. Mowed fairways keep getting better each year....always clean, always fun, always packed!! You can always go here and find an old friend or make a new one. Cedar tree lined fairways are cool....easy to navigate......a few signature holes are awsome....hole 7 and 17 come to mind immediately.

Cons:

Pro and con is the amount of players you might get stuck behind.....really busy course, which is cool, and for good reason. Some of the baskets are a little long in the toof.....no way to expand the course as the discs go farther is unfortunate...some really dumb mandos on 9 and 18 take away the half point of my rating......I am bias against 95% of mandos anywhere though...

Other Thoughts:

Wonderful, fun, challenging course that has withstood the test of time, unlike a lot of oldie but goodie courses.......a must play if you visit BG.....then go to Holler in the Hills, and stop by Disc Golf Shop and More/KY Disc Golf Hall of Fame, on your way out there:)

mature course in a nice park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 11, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Set inside a very nice park with good facilities. There is a shelter by the first tee, and the practice basket has cement markers in a spiral surrounding the basket from 1-10 meters to add some interest to the warm up.
- Well-defined routes on every hole, with options available for different types of shots on many of them. Many mature trees (mostly fir trees) which present a real challenge. Both RH and LH will appreciate the layout.
- Some holes have two pads and/or two baskets.
- Not terribly long, but still has many holes that require a strong drive. Many holes can be deuced, but an under par round is still tough to achieve.
- Good signage and decent teepads.

Cons:

- Most baskets are showing their age and have a lot of rust. A couple were set too low in the ground.
- Not a lot of room between some holes and there are times you have to wait to drive because players on other holes are in your line.
- People on the walking trail which surrounds course can get in the way

Other Thoughts:

Other than the baskets, a course I would definitely recommend. If I were local, it would definitely be a regular stop because it is the kind of course to work on different shots and try to put up a hot score.
The trees definitely eat discs a lot more readily than I would prefer and the first time you play the course they are usually blocking your view of the basket, but that's part of the personality of the course rather than a con.

A challenege with distance 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 13, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Lots of tough shots, nothing here is a gimme. The elevtation changes are wonderful, rarely do you have a level shot. Tree as just beautiful, makes for a visually appealing course as well. The course didnt favor one shot type over the other, great mix of forehands and backhands for righty or lefty. Distance wasn't overwhelming, but was plenty enough to keep you on your toes.

Cons:

Most of the baskets were great but some were in need of repair or replacement. While they had a lot of concrete tee pads, they were unusuallly slick for some reason. I watched a few people take a good slip and fall. If your are in a pine tree, good luck with your disc. I spent 30 min in the tree shaking the branch without budging my disc.

Other Thoughts:

It is a great course with lots of shot types. The park is clean and very well maintained. If I had one suggestion for the people would be to get a 20' pole out there to help people get their discs out of trees. If you are in Bowling Green I would recommend stopping and playing this course.

Deuce or Die 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 10, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Kereiakes Park's HB Clark DGC is a very fun course. I would classify it as, possibly, the most enjoyable deuce-or-die course I have ever played (it is a close battle with fellow Kentucky course Lincoln Ridge Park (formerly Banklick).

Kereiakes makes excellent use of elevation and trees available. Every hole seems to be carefully considered in placement. I noticed that almost every hole, from 1 to 18, it was incredibly easy to get to a particular spot 40 feet from the basket. But actually parking each hole required precision. The variety of shots available to reach hole 18's green really stands out in my mind. Hole 15 is a fun gap-hit, hole 5 takes a real pump to reach. Good variety on the course.

Cons:

The only cons I can think of are that number 1 - it is a very hyzer friendly course. Hyzer bombs are prevalent. Hole 15, despite being a great hole, doesn't seem to flow with the rest of the course. It is distinctly different from everything else out there - a good and bad thing. It seems like a fantastic hole that was picked up from another course and dropped in the middle of Kereiakes. The final minor complaint - this course is one of the few I've played where the two-meter rule needs to be in effect every time you play. The trees are a true bail-out all over the place for errant drives going deep. The two-meter rule keeps a player from ripping for the trees and praying for an easy drop.

Other Thoughts:

As I already said - I love Kereiakes. I didn't play well there my one time out, but I remember having a lot of fun. That's something you can't say about a lot of courses. Playing poorly on Kereiakes can be aggravating because the birdies are right there in front of you, but it never turns into a grind. A lot of fun shots, a lot of power hyzers to open your arm up and go big, and nice natural flow for the most part.

One of the most fun courses 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 10, 2007 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course has tons of variety, and is simply one of the most fun courses I have ever played.

There are 18 potential birdies on this course, but it's not a cakewalk. Kereiakes forces you to make your 2 good shots on every single hole. There are many different hole types, including left- and right- turning shots, up- and down-hill shots, straight open holes, tight wooded holes, blind holes, roller holes. Two sets of tees on most holes and alternate pin placements add a significant challenge.

The course is beautiful, and well taken care of. It's obvious that the course was "designed", rather than "placed", as so many disc golf courses are. The hole designs utilize the trees and hills in 17 totally different ways (#12 and #13 are similar).

This is the kind of course that you jump out of the car for, and also a course that you want to play again immediately after you've finished a round.

Cons:

The course is squeezed on to a smaller piece of land than it deserves, so a few holes run very closely. There are a few areas where there are 2 or 3 different teeboxes to different holes right next to each other.

Other Thoughts:

Absolutely the only course I would play in BG if I only had time for one round. The land is great for rollers, and I can think of at least 6 or 7 holes where a good roller is a great option off the tee (#2, #3, #5, #6, #7 (yes!), #17, #18). If I lived closer, I'd be at this course every single weekend.

Don't miss this one. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 27, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Wow, what a fun course this is! At first glance I thought this would be a pretty easy course. I was really surprised how much accuracy that was required to score well here. It is a course that doesn't appear to have a whole lot of challenge until you play a few holes and then you realize, "I need to buckle down and concentrate". One the other hand, if you are on your game you should score well too. I liked the fact that it is not a course that just hands you birdies but does reward good shots.

For the most part it is a pretty open course with many trees scattered around as obstacles. The trees which are a mixture of mature hardwoods and lots of big cedars will force you to aim carefully. You'll also find a generous mixture of elevation changes along with shot types too. In fact, I didn't feel any "same ol' hole fatigue" here at all. Uphill, downhill, right, left, and strait holes are all found here. The openness comes with the benefit of not worrying about excessive undergrowth should you find yourself off the fairways. Speaking of the fairways, the grass is well kept and trimmed shorter than the "rough". This also helps in the navigation of the course in general. You'll find a holes anywhere from 220' to 425' with most of them on the shorter side. The trees also work nicely making up for the short holes in terms of difficulty. You should enjoy ample ace opportunities too. Number one (short) comes to mind as one of the more fun to run at. Also look for a couple different routes on some of the holes. I took a risk by using the least logical line a few times and was rewarded a time or two.

The course also boast's concrete tee pads, signs, and an informative kiosk including a course map close to the pavilion and practice basket. A few holes have multiple tees and a few have a couple different pin placements as well. Number one and ten shares a "Y" shaped pad from the long position and is pretty unique.

Cons:

Truly there are not many in my mind. Each person has their own ideals and dislikes. Each player is likely to find some based on that. As some of the previous reviewers have stated, there are holes on the short side by today's standards. I happened to enjoy them though.

I played on a Saturday morning and did not experience the crowds that others have mentioned. I can see all of the characteristics that make it likely to be, both by other park users and players as well.

The concrete tees are showing their age but are quite playable.

Other Thoughts:

This is a great course in terms of scenery, design, and fun factor. One way of knowing I really enjoyed a course is by determining if I want to come back and play again. I do. This one should defiantly have you wanting to return and play again as well. With the large selection of courses to play in the Bowling Green area, this is one of them on the top of the list to play again next time I visit. I hope you'll like it too. Enjoy!

Cedars everywhere! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 30, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is set in a hilly area, with lots of mature trees. The course plays up and down the hills, and very few of the holes are without some kind of elevation change. There are really no wide open holes, but there is a great variety of types of holes. There are some holes where you need to shape your shot around a couple big cedars, and others where you are shooting through a whole forest of them.

This course never felt repetitive, as each hole was unique, and all different kinds of shots were required here. The course design used the terrain and the trees beautifully to make challenging and interesting holes throughout. The course looped back to the parking lot halfway through, which was a nice plus.

The course was very well taken care of. There were very nice tee signs with distance and a hole map, and all the tees were nice concrete pads. At the beginning of the course, there was a large course map showing the full layout with all the alternate tees. The alternate tees gave very different looks at some of the holes, and were very well marked with their own signs. The grass was nicely mowed, and there was no trash or any kind of brush on the course. It is very clear that the locals take great care of this course.

Cons:

The one thing this course was missing was length. There were no holes where you could open up and throw a driver. The course is also in a fairly small space, which means a few holes play right next to one another. Most of the fairways are well insulated from each other, but there were a few that overlapped. Also, a few holes played right on top of the next tee pad, so if people were playing right behind you, it was important to watch for incoming drives.

The course is surrounded by a walking path, and it comes very close to a number of holes. When the path is crowded, it can be a bit of a safety hazard, and you may end up waiting for traffic to pass.

Other Thoughts:

This course was a lot of fun to play, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone in the area. The cedar trees make a great obstacle, as they are much more likely to grab a disc than other trees, and this added a unique flavor to this course. It was challenging enough to be interesting to experienced players, but was very well marked and definitely beginner friendly as well.

Next time I'm in the Bowling Green area, this course is at the top of my list to play again. The local disc golf scene in this town is fantastic, and they take great care of their area courses.

Great Terrain,Awesome Cedar Trees 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 23, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Lots of rolling hills are incorporated into the shot making requirements on this course. Miss by just a few feet you may end up 50 feet away if your disc flutters and then rolls away.

2) Awesome Cedar Trees. These trees are massive and they require you to shape shots around, through, or even underneath their branches. I lost 1 disc in a tall Cedar and my buddy lost another, and this is the first disc I have lost. Losing discs isn't a pro, but it makes the difficulty level higher which I love!

3) Not a lot of underbrush which is nice. You can generally see where you need to go, executing the shot is another story.

4) Hole #3 is awesome. Not too long or anything but the basket is parked right on the side of a hill so that any disc with too much anhyzer will just keep going and going down the hill.

5) Nice use of trees. There are some holes with specific trees you need to avoid, and other holes that you have to really shape a shot because they are a little more densely wooded. Only one hole with what I would call a tunnel shot #15, but the other trees are incorporated into the course tremendously. This holds true on #10 because the basket is placed around and between two trees. If you arent far enough left off the tee you can barely even see the basket let alone get to it.

6) Nice baskets, nice signage and nice teepads, essential for a higher rating in my book.

7) Somewhat beginner friendly because of moderately wooded property, but the terrain can get newbies fairly easily. Alternate tees on a few holes to also make this beginner friendly.

Cons:

1) Although most holes you have some alternative paths, I would have liked to see a few more holes going from right to left instead of left to right. I enjoy a good anhyzer hole but would like to see a few more hyzers.

2) In offseason could be somewhat muddy with very weedy lawns. Not sure about in season when grass is growing.

Other Thoughts:

All in all another grat course. I credit this site with allowing me to play some of the better courses in the US so far in my short career in disc golf. I wouldnt have had any idea where to go to play on my travels.

This course has rolling hills, mature Cedars, tucked baskets, all of which contribute to a nice day of disc golfing. I will go back whenever I go through Bowling Green, you should do the same if you are ever in the area.

Pros:

Nice concrete pads with signs and baskets on every hole. Well kept and clean. With the tall pine trees you will need to keep your disc down and in the fairways. But even with a bad tee shot you still have a good chance at saving par. Nice layout with hole 1 and hole 18 starting and stopping at the parking lot. Has a large welcome sign with map and a covered shelter. And the location is nice too it's only a few minutes from Lover's Lane. A must play if your on a BG tour.

Cons:

Watch out for people walking on the paths. There are always people out there when I've played this course morning, afternoon, and evening. But other than that there's not nothing really bad about the course.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a must stop and play if your in the BG area. Not to mention it's one of the oldest in the state I think. Alot of hyzer spike shots if you have the arm for them. That seems to be the shot I see alot of the locals throwing.
