This course has potential to be decent. Rolling hills with a few tree obstacles and a grove of pines. Problem is that, as-is, the baskets completely avoid the few obstacles that are there, except for 6 and 7. A good example is hole 1. There is a grouping of pines by the basket, but the basket sits just to the right of them in the complete open. There are similar placements on other holes.

WRT 6 and 7, there are multiple problems. First, 6's tee points at a very small gap to shoot through a tight row of pines with a clearing beyond. The basket sits in the clearing past the pines and well to the right. Problem is that 7's tee is right in between that gap in the pines and 60' from 6's basket, right in the path. Second, 7 shoots through the clearing in the opposite direction from 6, using a common fairway with 6. Oh, and then on 7 you also have to shoot through an evergreen curtain and hope you punch through.

The tee boxes are 2x4-bordered sand boxes. Large enough though, so that helped. No tee signs.

Parking is tight. 6 spots maybe?

Overall, I was underwhelmed with this one. Now, don't get me wrong, it wasn't awful, but I wouldn't recommend that you travel far to play here. I travelled 50 minutes and that was too far.

Pros:

+ Kokosing Dam's course is a compact 9-holer that plays on mostly flat land next to the rolling hills near the dam.

+ The design is well done considering the space and resources given. The trees are spotty, but the design is able to use them effectively to create some decently fun shots.

+ The tee pads aren't too bad. They are pretty huge, and consist of crushed gravel in a wooden frame. Not luxury, but it serves its purpose. Mach V baskets on every hole.

+ Decent plays to introduce someone to the sport if that's what you're into.

Cons:

- Well, the course just isn't very fun. Most holes are short and flat, with just a few trees coming into play here and there.

- Not sure how often the place is mowed or maintained. The grass was shin high in a few spots, especially the stretch from 7-9.

- No tee signs so without a map you'll have no idea which hole is which. No numbers on any of the baskets either.

- The parking lot is probably the smallest I've seen on a course. It's pretty laughable, there's about 6 spots for disc golfers to share with whoever else is using the property.

- The baskets are mounted above ground, and as a result are set higher than most baskets.

- #7's tee is right in the middle of the fairway for #6. This would cause issues if there were two groups because #6 is the only blind hole on the course.

Other Thoughts:

Kokosing just isn't very fun. It's not the fault of anyone really, but the property isn't the best for any kind of special course. If you're driving down the highway, it's only a few minutes off the route if you're bagging courses. Other than that, it'd be best to stay closer to Mansfield.
