Best Course in Europe

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 7, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Usually courses that are listed as lightly wooded, very hilly, long, and with lots of artificial OB are not my cup tea. This course is an exception. The designer makes great use of terrain and incorporates the trees on the course very well. There are several heavily wooded holes mixed in. There are others that require you to either throw out of a tight window to a more open area or the reverse of throwing from an open area to a heavily wooded green. The OB stakes make the course a technical challenge and never feels forced. Elevation changes on every hole. Sometimes it is subtle sometimes it is dramatic. There is a limited amount of water hazards on the course but when they are in play they are used exceedingly well.

The course requires a great deal accuracy and distance to score well. Holes required different shot shaping with left breaks, right breaks, Ss, and straight throws with slight breaks at the end of them.

There are two sets of tees on each hole. The short tees are still challenging and will provide a good challenge to most players. The long tees are an additional challenge. Tee pads are some form of artificial turf. The tee pads are in good condition and are not slippery. There are tee signs at each tee. Baskets have the correct hole number on them and next tee arrows. There are next tee arrows pointing the way to the next pad as well.

The course is beautifully maintained. The fairways are mowed to a ball golf standard. Even when landing off the fairway the rough is not that bad. There are no sections with thorn bushes or other not so nice surprises.

Cons:

The course is brutal both from a design viewpoint and from the physical effort needed to go up and down the hills. Once you are out on the course you will not be near the parking lot again until you finish.

The walk between some of the holes is long. Specifically hole 12 to hole 13 and hole 18 back to the parking lot. Some of the other transitions are also long. While they are marked with next tee arrows they could use more of them.

Hole 3 is a disc eater. The left side of the hole is a 40 foot cliff that drops down to the forest below. Trees were removed from the pin location on the left side and it slopes towards the cliff so it is very easy to have a disc go over the cliff. The hole could use netting on the cliff line.

There are no benches or trash cans at the tees.

Other Thoughts:

This is one of the best course I have played anywhere and was a pleasant surprise. I did not have high hopes for the course when I walked up to the it and saw there was a ball golf course on the same property. Turns out I was completely wrong. The ball golf course and disc golf course do not interact. Other than the first two holes of the course you do not even see the ball golf course.

While hole 3 is a disc eater there is a way down in the forest below. Continue playing and when you finish on hole 4 you can walk through about 30 feet of tall grass to reach a path that will take you below the cliff. It is about 8 minute walk back to the hole 3 cliff on the trail. When I got back to the location I found my disc and two other discs in about 1 minute all within 40 feet of each other.
