Lake Mills Park is adjacent to a high school but is labeled a "community" park; it does not seem like it is treated as part of the high school property and there seemed to be no issue with playing during school hours. While I was there it was dead on the course, just a few people wasting time in the parking lot here and there. I doubt this course ever gets very busy.

The equipment here is decent; baskets are excellent, tees and tee signs aren't incredible but both are very serviceable. I played in light rain and the tees definitely were pretty slippery. The park seems well maintained and was recently mowed. Navigation was easy enough to follow, aided by hole numbers on the baskets, a minor detail I find to be a huge help on more open courses. The biggest con to flow here was fairways 4 and 5 crossing. With the amount of space here, this seemed totally unnecessary and kind of nonsensical. I just don't get why decisions like this are made.

From hole 3's tee, it is also pretty unclear which basket you are throwing to. The basket for 3 is more or less dead ahead on the little hill. The basket to the right is hole 5. Elevation change was well incorporated on this course, but more obstacles or incorporation of wooded areas would have made for more challenge. There wasn't anything particularly unique about this course. I don't have many huge knocks on it besides the crossing fairways, and it's respectable enough for a quick round, but there's nothing to get excited about.

With all of the other phenomenal courses in the Madison and Milwaukee areas, this one felt underwhelming. However, if you want to play a shorter course, this is right off the route between Milwaukee and Madison, so it can be very convenient. It is relatively short and you probably won't have much need for a distance driver. Lines aren't particularly forced with the amount of open space here, so it's going to be a fairly "dealer's choice" sort of round. Of course, this would also be an excellent course for beginners getting introduced to some elevation change while still having lots of options after errant throws.

Overall, I definitely wouldn't come out of my way to play here unless you're looking to bag it, but it is just off a major highway route and will go quickly if you need a break from the longer courses.

For a short, 9 hole course this is pretty decent. The elevation makes up for the lack of distance. Fun for ace runs or dialing in your short game!

+ Challenging, but not overly punitive -- it's a beginner course, it should be fun.
+ The decision to use rubber teepads, instead of other, less forgiving materials, such as asphalt or coral, has proven to be a good one.
+ The long prairie grass adds character. Sure it's an obstacle, but you can avoid that problem by simply getting the disc into the pin. I don't know what everyone's problem is.

- Hole 2 abuts the kids soccer fields. Prepare to be judged ruthlessly by those snot nosed brats.

The course is set up in a pretty much disc golf exclusive area. There's a decent sized parking area with a porta potty nearby. Hole 1 starts right by the lot and hole 9 ends near it. Always nice to see this when feasible. The tee pads are really solid. They're large rubber mats that all were level and gripped nicely. These are all inside a wood frame with gravel inside of that. really some of the nicer ones I've seen at a small 9. The pins are brand new Mach V's that caught pretty good, not great but good enough. The flow from hole to hole is very intuitive. You won't be getting lost here. The tee signs have all your basic hole info on them. The hole number, a basic diagram of the hole layout, next tee arrow, par and distance. Again, all you need here. The design of this course on the land available is top notch. The little bit of elevation and trees is used to perfection here. Hole 2 is a slightly uphill shot to a moderately guarded pin with a decent drop off the whole right side. Hole 3 is an open downhill shot but with the pin on a mound. Hole 4 is a nice ace run but with a big drop all around the basket except the left. Well done for the small piece of land they had here. The wind is going to be your main adversary here. The course is permanent and free to play.

Not much for cons on this one. I could se the prairie grass being tough to locate discs in in the summer months. Hard to say since it was late April when I played. Other than that not too much to nit pick on here.

Nothing worth going a long way out of your way to play but if you're in the area this is definitely worth a quick spin or 2. The is honestly one of the better 9 holers I've played in quite awhile. This is also a great spot for newer players as it is mostly wide open and I would assume usually not very busy.

This course is situated in a prairie next to a high school and golf course. It kind of feels like this is Capital Spring's little brother.

+ I think the land is utilized very well from a design point of view. I loved how the course takes full advantage of the hill by 7's basket / 8s tee and the trees by 4/5. The holes vary in length (195-350 ft) and offer players different lines of attack to the basket. There is prairie grass that clearly defines fairways and paths to the next tees from the previous basket, which makes navigation and course flow a breeze. Not only this, but the course does a good job of staying out of the way of things like the track, the football fields, soccer fields, etc... I feel the course can coexist with the other stuff in this location pretty seamlessly.

+ Though this course is very new, there are already benches and trash cans in place by tees and tee signs that depict the hole. Baskets are new and thus in great shape. I believe tees will be poured soon?

+ This course has a pretty high fun-factor. Holes 3/8 are down hill shots where playing a RHBH fade is advisable to go for the ace.

- There's only so much you can do in a prairie, right? While the course takes full advantage of terrain (hills/trees), there still aren't that many interesting features to make it a destination course.

- In the summer, the tall prairie grass is hungry for discs. Pay close attention to where your disc lands!

All in all, I would rate this course a 2.5. For a 9-holer, I think that's a pretty solid score. The course takes full advantage of the land given to the designer and has a pretty high fun factor.

Another thing, even though it was the middle of summer when I played here, mosquitos and other bugs weren't an issue, which was very nice.
