Come for the view of the International Bridge...stay for the view of the International Bridge!

Pros:

Lake Superior State University is located in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. It's right near the Canadian border crossing on the International Bridge. The university has installed a 9-hole DGC that plays around the outskirts of campus.

The LSSU campus is on a hillside overlooking the St. Mary's River, and the change in elevation comes into play on several holes. Hole 2 is a mostly open downhill throw. If one of the MPO big arms were to visit and really let his disc fly in favorable conditions, the throw could probably carry over a tall fence maybe 500' away and land in the US Customs area/toll booth for the bridge. That MPO player would also be totally ignoring the actual hole though, which is only maybe 300' long.

Hole 3 plays along the side of this same steep hill. If you throw RHBH and your drive has too much hyzer it's going to fade wayyyy down the hill. Wind is probably almost always a factor here.

My favorite hole was #6, which is a short throw up and over the top of another hill. The International Bridge itself is visible off to the left. Be sure to stop for a minute and take in the view!

Thinking about the course as a whole, I don't think any hole was a completely open throw from tee to basket. Nothing is tightly wooded, but there are always at least a couple of trees or other obstacles to work around. The distances are middling - I judged four holes to be near 300' long with the rest shorter.

Cons:

I had several safety concerns. Hole 5 plays right next to a building lined with glass windows. Several other holes play within firing distance of other buildings or walking paths. Hole 1 is pretty close to a busy road that runs through campus.

There are baskets, but they are some portable model - and more critically, they were pretty beat up when I visited. Hole 9's basket was also missing - I just played to a large tree near where I thought the basket was supposed to be.

All other infrastructure does not exist. Actually, to be really specific I did find largeish stones with a corresponding number on them embedded into the ground on holes 2, 5, and 9 only. Based on the hole descriptions, map, and tee photos uploaded here, I was led to believe that these are supposed to mark the tee locations. The rest of the time, I wasn't at all sure where to tee off and used the aforementioned resources to guess. You will need to either do the same, or use UDisc to navigate.

The layout in general is just not great. The first hole plays along one side of the road, then the remaining holes are on the other side a decent walk away. The course overall plays in kind of a "C" shape, so after the finishing hole it's a long way back to wherever you parked. Speaking of that, I couldn't figure out where to legally park as signs indicated that the campus parking lot near hole 1 is only open to the public after 5 PM - even on the Saturday I visited. I ended up driving back to my hotel (the Holiday Inn Express) and just leaving my car there - probably about 1/4 mile away from hole 2's tee.

Other Thoughts:

Between the lack of navigational aids and the spread-out layout, this is not a quick round at all. It took me about 75 mins from the time I parked my car at the hotel and took my bag out, to the time I got back to my car.

This is basically just a walk around campus that happens to have some baskets. I wouldn't recommend playing here un-"LSSU" 're a student or looking for a cool view of the International Bridge! Hah, see what I did there?

Beautiful, but below average in my opinion 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Beautiful course laid out around the college

Cons:

basket 8 is missing, no proper signage or tee boxes(mostly we just made our own), download a course map online if you want to get to the proper basket and tee areas. Hole 5 is around corner of college building with windows on your right side.

Other Thoughts:

Nice if you just want to get out enjoy the scenery and walk, not so good if you want to take it seriously

not bad for a 9 hole course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

open concept with many fields, so you are less likely to loose your disk.

Cons:

tee pads were gravel rectangles that have grown over with grass, you can barely see them anymore.

signage does not exist

the map the college gives out does not have the correct tee pad or starting points.

Other Thoughts:

great place to play a round if you are here, but i wouldnt go out of your way to play it. i played it a lot because i lived on campus for a bit. if you park on campus you need a parking pass(unless it the summer semester). many tournaments in the area would consist of 9 holes here, and then the front 9 holes at the other course in town. thats a fun way to play, but again the holes are not clearly marked at either course.
