But....why? 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 12, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Nice baskets
- Some decent technical holes
- Nice for ace runs or putter only rounds
- Pretty clean
- Decent tee signage
- Disc golf area is away from the rest of the park so not a lot of overlap with other park users
- Free

Cons:

- The big con is holes 2 - 8 have basically no fairway. It's all shrubbery and forest undergrowth from the tee pad to the basket, which is really annoying. I don't know that it's particularly easy to *lose* a disc, but it is very easy to end up spending time looking for it.
- It's extremely tight. Like 2 - 8 is packed into an area that another course might only have 2 or 3 holes. I don't know that it ever gets very crowded, but if it was that could cause some issues. Shank a drive and you're basically in the "fairway" or circle of another hole.
- Hole 1 and 9 are off by themselves. The rest of the course is on the other side of the baseball diamond. Makes for an odd layout and there's not signage directing you from basket 1 to teepad 2. which is confusing. They should've just made hole 2 the first hole, and then have you finish with holes 9 and 1 as holes 8 and 9.
- Dirt teepads have tons of erosion to the point that it's hard to tee off using the middle of the teepad, as there's large holes there (also fill up with water if there was any rain). These need to be filled and leveled again.
- It's short, which isn't really that big of a con to me, but the longest hole is like 220 and most are under 200 ft, so you're limited in what kind of shots you will need/use

Other Thoughts:

I have certain expectations when I come to a disc golf course. When I'm playing a mixed use public park 9, I'm not expecting the world. That being said, this course has some really confusing design flaws that if they were cleaned up (or hadn't been made in the first place) could make the course so much better. Like I'm not sure why 2-8 are packed off in this woods area that's full of shrubs and undergrowth. There's a lot of park space that they didn't use, which is a shame because hole 9 (which isn't over there) is probably the best hole on the course. Maybe they wanted to keep the disc area separate (understandable) but then they could've cleared away some of this brush and growth and planted some grass or something...maybe make some mulch fairways at least? Cleaning up the woods area and making some actual fairways would go a long way. And then the odd hole layout with the big gap between 1 and 2 and 8 and 9... just end with the two holes that aren't in the woods? At least add a sign directing. Between the teepad erosion and the overgrowth I'm not sure how much attention this course gets. Which is a shame. All that said, the play of most of the course was not bad for what it was. I would maybe come back if I'm in the area and want a quick round, but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way again. It just left me wondering "why?"
**UPDATE 2021**
I've played this course a handful more times since last year when I left my initial review. Since that time, and this year in particular, the upkeep as made some improvements. A lot of the shrubbery and undergrowth has been cleared away, which is very nice. They added a mando and sign to hole 8 which is a nice touch. For this reason, I'm bumping up my rating a half star. If they added concrete tee pads I would consider a 3. There aren't many 9 hole courses in this area, especially ones that receive attention and maintenance. It has flaws but I'm glad it's here.

Has some potential! 2+ years drive by

Pros:

It is nice little course in a park that has a whole lot of things to do! The tees and the signs are in nice shape.

Cons:

Since this is a new course I am assuming it is a work in progress. There are no fairways as it appears this was clear cut for the purpose of the course. Lots of weeds and rough terrain yet. But I think in time with some work on the landscape it could get better.

Other Thoughts:

Nice little course. It has some potential to be better if Middleton is willing to clean up what should be fairways.
