Pros:
Longley Park disc golf course is set in a multi use park just off of I-65 , north of Indianapolis . There is some parking available near hole #17 and a shelter . I didn't see bathrooms near the course .
The Equipment : The equipment for 7 holes if fine . The long tee pads were the only ones I found . They are 4' X 10' cement pads , plenty long . The Signs are good , with hole# , par , distance and flight path , along with where next hole is . The baskets are yellow banded Discatchers .
The Landscape : park is flat , which means that this course is flat . No elevation to speak of . 9-11 are woods holes with a great use of the trees . , and 14-17 are park style and are near the tennis courts and baseball field . I doubt that you will be able to play 16 and maybe 17 if a game is in play ,
The Highlights . The remaining holes are okay . #9 is a good narrow shot a little right to left . #10 is a tight technical right to left sweep through thin strips of trees that rainbows into a small area . #16 throws to a basket on a small hill .
Time : It took me about 20-25 minutes to play the course , but I also spent extra time looking for tee pads and baskets . You can play #12 off the tee and out of the woods , and pick a target to throw at for an extra hole . Same thing with #18 since the tee pad points towards your car , anyway .
Disc Risk : Very low . The park is well kept , there is little to no overgrowth and #14-17 are out of the woods and in the park .
There is some variety here and a few fun holes .
Cons:
#1 Navigation . It's always hard to navigate a course when most of it is missing . If you can find the tennis court in the back of the park , throw #15 , then walk straight back from the basket and you will see the #9 sign . Throw 9-11 , then pop out of the woods staying near the tree line . #14 is near there . After 14 , you can play 15 again , or walk the fairway to 16 . 17 is down the fence line with the road on the right .
#2 Safety - Park users only come into play if there are games or practice near holes 16 and 17 . They have the right of way .
#3 Challenge- Deuces can be had one the remaining holes if your accuracy is on and it is not windy . Intermediates and above will eat this course up .
#4 Weather - The course update will clear that up for you . It says that the Lebanon Parks Commission is working on drainage issues . That means that after a rain , the course will be soggy , with a good chance of mud , in your disc golf forecast .
Other Thoughts:
I had always thought about playing this course on my way back from Chicago at times , but it looks like I blew my opportunity . I looked back on previous reviews to get a timeline of what happened . It looks like somewhere between the beginning of 2014 and maybe May of 2016 , baskets were pulled up and the majority of the course was abandoned . I saw in the most recent course update that Lebanon Parks Dept. was working on drainage issues ? Since 2016 ? How about working on clearing the course , redesigning a couple of holes and reinstalling some or all of the baskets . The locals here deserve better than this !
My Recommendation : Unless you live locally , want to introduce someone to the game of disc golf , or just want to practice some midrange or putting , this course isn't worth it . For the Course Collector , this is an easy add . Otherwise , shuffle on to a nearby park that cares about disc golf .
