Longwood University has stepped their game up! 2+ years drive by

Pros:

1.) Converted ball golf course so the aesthetics are top notch.

2.) Good tee/hole locations. Well thought out design. Some great low ceiling shots that you might not expect from a converted ball course (1 & 17). Some great "bomb" shots (9, 15 & 16), a couple of doglegs (7 & 14), strategic elevation changes (4, 6, 8 & 9) and a few ace runs (2, 3, 6, 7).

3.) Has a great support team behind it with course maintenance and promotion. I am sure this will be a solid "drawing" course to the area, something this area is severely lacking.

4.) New Innova baskets.

5.) Easy to get to and great parking.

6.) Bathrooms accessible central to the course. (They aren't open now but I expect them to be outside of the winter months).

Cons:

These are my personal cons, you may disagree.

1.) Signage is very lackluster. This course needed to be opened with a BANG! and awesome signage would have been my choice. Instead, they are simply white with generic numbers added. I am hoping for an upgrade in the future.

2.)Natural tee boxes. (Maybe down the road this can be upgraded). Not a huge knock, there are plenty of great courses with dirt tee boxes, but they are great in spite of the lack of them, not because. Hoping the course drains well and the dirt boxes don't become mud pits. *Also lacks a practice warm up basket at the beginning of the course. Plenty of room for one.

Lastly, I would have liked to have seen more of the wooded area around the back or in the middle of the course used. Make it a true "complete" course. 2-3 wooded holes could have really made this a course that checked all of the boxes.

I don't want that to sound like this is an underwhelming course, that couldn't be farther from the truth. I do however see what I personally think it could have been (or be) and that could have taken this course from a 4 star course to a whole different level IMO.

Other Thoughts:

I give Gus and the guys at Longwood University massive props for the job they did here. I look forward to having a course this nice in my area and see very good things in its future. Congrats Longwood!
