Clean, Easy, Basic Beginner Course Will Satisfy Novice, Beginner And Recreational Players! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 15, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

PARK DESCRIPTION - Maple Creek park (without the creek) is your basic neighborhood park sitting between two housing divisions. It's clean, well maintained with a playground and a walking path that well used.

VARIETY - Without little in the way of obstacles, it's really a point and shoot course. Holes 1-6 play out with 7-9 playing back to the start.

ELEVATION - There is just enough to keep a beginner player interested. A few holes play slight downhill, a couple slightly uphill and four are flat.

CHALLENGE - Recreational level challenge with # 8 being the only hole over 280'. Little chance of losing a disc.

EQUIPMENT - Tee signs are small, red signs giving the hole number, distance and par. The pads are natural and the baskets are DGC models with red numbers.

AESTHETICS - Well, it's not the homeliest course I've played but it's no little Mulberry either.

FUN FACTOR - Just enough to keep beginner/rec players interested.

ROUTING/NAVIGATION - Each sign is visible from the previous basket.

Cons:

Natural tees.

# 4 basket is leaning left. It has been abused slightly.

Very little in the way of obstacles.

Other Thoughts:

With some beginner level pars like # 5's 280' Par 4, most anyone could be looking at an Eagle on this hole. Really, this makes for a fairly good bagger course or as a course to bring that younger less experienced player.

Easy Level Unlocked 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 23, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

If you were using a course designing program or playing Disc Golf the video game, this would be what I'd expect to see as DG set on "easy" or as the basic tutorial level. The course is in a small local park, that's tucked away in between two residential neighborhoods, and draws hardly any traffic. Its not going to challenge veteran players, as its more like a comfy recliner chair type course.

That's not to say its not enjoyable, far from it, as sometimes its nice to just get out and throw some discs, try new shots, or just bring someone along who hasn't played much or at all. The layouts make excellent use of the terrain and trees, so its not just baskets in fields and your interest is kept.

Its just the type of course that welcomes you like a good recliner at the end of the day, you can just sit back and relax knowing there's little chance of a lost disc or hitting every tree on a tight fairway.

The layout is simple and holes follow one after the other in an easy to see loop. There's even a hole (8) where you can just chuck a disc for 400+ feet to blow off some steam if you need to.

Cons:

Yes there's no bluetooth, massage or heat settings on the chair, but its not the type of course you really need benches, trash cans, or even tee pads to enjoy.

Other Thoughts:

Recovering from an injury I've thrown opposite hand, forehand, however I wanted here and still had fun playing. I've brought people here who said they were miserable playing a more advanced course that they tried out too early and they loved it. So if you've got kids, significant others, or anyone you want to have try out DG, this is the area course to take them to. It won't discourage them, and at a short 9 holes its a perfect trial run.

Gentle Novice Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 20, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

An unobjectionable neighborhood park that boasts nine holes that are both easy and interesting.

-Amenities: Good baskets. Tee posts with number, distance, and novice-appropriate pars.

-Novice-Friendly: Other than a few trees/areas of brush to throw around, there isn't anything that will trip up newer players. Also a good place for ace-hunting for more experienced players.

-Variety: Surprisingly diverse for a course this size. There are a few longer holes (300'-400'), a couple of gaps, elevation, and plenty of gentle bends to match a natural disc flight. Also, plenty of trees that are easy to avoid but nonetheless generate more interest than open fields.

-Maintenance: The park was very well-maintained when I played. Everything was clean and the grass was short.

-Navigation: Very intuitive. Each post is visible from the previous one.

Cons:

-Property Line: Hole (5) has a fence that could easily be thrown over by a griplock. I could foresee lost beginner discs.

-Diversity of Terrain: Virtually none. It's pleasant enough, but nothing really exciting. It feels like a large backyard.

-Challenge: Even a rec player will have no trouble getting below par. There are no real shaping requirements other than basic gaps and gentle bends.

-Natural Tees: They were very slick even after just a morning's dew. That's problematic if you're trying to drive 400' like on the 8th hole.

Other Thoughts:

As a novice course, Maple Creek is excellent. In the scheme of courses overall, I think it qualifies as Reasonable for achieving a basic level of interest and having good flow and signage.

A Utility Nine Holer 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 20, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

(1.456 Rating) A lightly wooded Beginners' course, without a creek in play.
- NOVICE FRIENDLY - At 2200 feet and little to no obstacles, newer to Novice level players will enjoy this course. Player's that are around an 835 rating should average par out here if played all par 3s. A couple sub 200 footers and one open hole maxing out at 420 feet. Overgrowth is limited to two holes, (5) and (6), and there is no water in play despite the course's name.
- ACEABILITY - Holes (1) thru (4) have huge ace potential. To skilled players they are just putter runs.
- QUICK PLAY - I finished my first round out here solo in 25 minutes and I spent 5 minutes looking for a disc. Figure 45 minutes for a foursome.
- NAVIGATION - Despite no navigational aids or course map postings on site, I had no trouble running this layout. There are wood posts with simple signage and it was adequate for this open layout. The course makes a loop around the park counter clockwise.
- MAINTENANCE - This looks like a park that's constantly maintained. Entirely mowed for my visit.
- CHAINS - Great baskets, DISCatchers. Unfortunately, a typical comment for me when I quickly run out of pros.

Cons:

No glaring issues, it's just a small park that will only attract a small audience.
- LACK OF CHALLENGE - Middle rec players and up will not be challenged. Advanced players in the neighborhood will likely be striving for 9 deuces and average 7 to 8 down.
- MULTI USE HAZARDS - There's a walking path in play on 3 holes. Players may have to wait a couple seconds a few times each round. Really this is just a minor issue.
- SIGNAGE - Very simple. Just a hole number and distance, although probably adequate for this style of course. The distances seemed off on a couple holes.
- CHARACTER - Course amenities are pretty much non-existent. No tee pads, no alternate basket placements, no multi tees and only one park bench near a tee. There is a shelter in the park and restrooms.
- UNIQUENESS - The variety is pretty bleak. Only a couple of twisting holes on (5) and (6). Thankfully these two holes twist in opposite directions. The other seven holes are basically open shots. As for elevation, there is basically none. Hole (8) plays up perhaps 10 feet and holes (1) and (9) play down about 10 feet. That's about it. Great for a disc golf cart however.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - Most parks look nice and this one does as well. However, in comparison to all the courses I've played to date, (308 courses as of this review), Maple Creek Park is well below average in beauty. There are no backdrop views, elevation elements or water features. The positive aspects are limited to mowed fields and trimmed trees, something almost all parks can claim.

Other Thoughts:

Maple Creek Park will work as a utility or practice course for those that live within a few miles. It will also work for beginners as the course offers the basic elements of the game in forgiving format. This is obviously a nice bagger course as well because it flows great and it doesn't take very long time. For those across town, there is no reason to stray here unless that player feels the need to play every course in the metro area once.

Maple Creek Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 19, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Has natural tee pads that are flat and fair to tee off from

Has tee signs

Course navigation without a map is fairly straightforward

More open than wooded fairways with some holes having slight elevations - beginner friendly

Short course that is great for a beginner or for one to work on the short game

Well-maintained

Free parking

Restrooms

Water fountain

Cons:

A few holes play close to the walking path (one can expect some delays)

A few opportunities to lose discs here via OB fencing that's about 5-6 ft tall

No variety in pars realistically - par 27

Distances on some tee signs seem to be inaccurate (hole #5 is obviously off)

Other Thoughts:

This is a short, fun 9 hole city course in Dacula that I enjoyed playing on a Sunday afternoon. This course is really basic with about 3 holes slightly uphill, 2 slightly downhill, and 4 that are flat and would be great to play for the beginning player. Holes 1, 2, & 9 play close to the walking path so one can expect some delays. There is a fence that is about 5 or 6 feet tall that comes close to holes 3, 5, 8 - which could be an adventure in climbing should a disc finds its way out of bounds. Pars on the signs are inflated for the beginners so a par 27 seems fitting here for the experienced player. The experienced should be able to score some deuces as most holes have an open path to the basket. Like the first reviewer has noted, the distances on some tee signs seem to be inaccurate. I felt that hole #5 played about half the distance of the posted 280 feet and hole #4 was a little bit longer than the posted 140 feet. Other than that, it's a reasonable course to play. If you're in this area, this course might be worth bagging and could serve as a warmup for nearby Little Mulberry Park.

Good newbie course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 23, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The course is a new installation in a linear suburban park.
There are all new Mach 5 baskets.
Signs with distance at all 9 tees. (More about the signs in the cons)
There should not be any interference with other park users.
The layout of the course is good for new players. Holes 1-5 are short, but the course gradually gets more difficult as you progress through the course.
Clean bathrooms and water available seasonally.

Cons:

Concrete tee pads are planned, but have not been installed yet.
Holes 1-4 are wide open, short holes and you will be kicking yourself if you don't birdie them.
I think the distances on the tee signs are inaccurate. Hole 7 and Hole 6 are particularly egregious. Hole 4 is off, as well.
Par is somewhat generous on the last holes. I would consider everything a Par 3.

Other Thoughts:

The course is good for what it is. It's not a must play course or a tournament course. It is a great course for introducing a new player, or playing a round with someone who isn't an avid player, (like my wife) to the game. For the more experienced golfer, you will not be happy if you don't birdie holes 1 - 5.,
