Neighborhood Pitch-n-Putt 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 23, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a fine little neighborhood course, with modest hole lengths varying from 196' to 310'. Seven of the holes are 230' or less, so this is a perfect course to practice your putter driving.

Excellent amenities, with flat concrete tee pads, excellent tee signs, and Mach X baskets. Also a couple of practice baskets, a course bulletin board, and a locked disc return box. If only all courses had this level of infrastructure!

There is some sloping ground here that gives a roll-away potential at a couple of baskets, as well a modest uphill or downhill drive on hole or two.

Cons:

This is a very simple course, with minimal challenge. Only Holes 4 & 5 require a drive around trees. Everything else is an open throw over grass.

A couple of walking trails wind through the course so you'll have to be aware of pedestrians who may not be aware of you.

Other Thoughts:

This is not a destination course, but is a great little spot to practice approaches and putts.

$1000 Course With $1,000,000 Amenities! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Memorial Park in Wisonville is just a short hop off Interstate 5 making it an excellent place for a quick pit stop or an easy get for us course baggers. Of course, if you're just passing through and want to hit as course or two, there are other more challenging course around Portland such as Champoeg State Park a little farther south or Pier Park just north in Portland. Memorial Park is a lovely, large park with lots of activities for all. The course is right next to the dog park sharing the same little parking lot. I love the fact that there is an OFFICIAL PARK SIGN pointing the way to the disc golf course. It was almost twenty years ago when I first glimpsed a park sign which read Disc Golf Course and now you're seeing them in many parks. Disc Golf is slowly approaching respectability!

This course has first class amenities starting with the nice, new kiosk in the parking lot which has a course map and disc golf rules. It also has a very nice and secure lost disc return box but I doubt very much that it gets many lost discs as there just aren't a lot of places to lose discs here. There are two practice baskets for your putting pleasure. The pads are nicely large concrete ones. DGA Mach X's with the red numbers on top are the basket of choice here. The great new, colored metal tee signs also point to the next tee.

For all these great amenities, the course is rather tame. It really makes for a wonderful little Pitch n' Putt, superbly perfect for beginners but lacking in any challenge, even for us recreational types. Holes 1 (230') ,2 (196') ,3 (204'), 6 (200') and 7 (196') are all straight, short and wide open. # 8 is slightly longer at 310' but still straight and wide open, as well. ACE runs they are, creative challenging holes for most players, not a chance.
# 4 has, at least a couple of trees to throw through and # 9, at least makes you throw a little anhyser shot around some trees.

Cons:

It's too bad that the # 8 basket wasn't set in the small grove of trees about 50 feet further back. That would have been a little more interesting.

Not much challenge for most players, but perfect for beginners.

A few walkers or dog folks but nothing too worrisome.

Other Thoughts:

This is another of these simple little courses with the best navigational aids money can buy. There is a course sign to get you to the course. It's about 1000 feet down the path. There are arrows pointing you to the first tee. Each tee sign has an arrow which shows the next tee. And then I think of how much time I spend stumbling around the woods in some of the largest, most rugged and most poorly signed courses all over the USA. On many of those, I would be so grateful for any signage.

This is a great course for course baggers and a great course for beginners. Not so for anyone who has played a few times.
