Pros:
First and only course in Vinita. Short and long holes. Practice basket. Easy to find. Convenient parking. Other park amenities for kids/family.
Cons:
No big hyzer bomb holes. Only 6 holes. Grass tees (for now?). Park can be somewhat busy in summer, but should really only be a potential problem on #6.
Other Thoughts:
Another decent course along I-44 between Joplin and Tulsa. It is 20 min away from Claremore Lake course, which is a better 9-hole course. Also about 20 min from the Miami course, a long 18 that needs real baskets.
I think this is a solid course for what it is: a 6-hole city park course in a town that is new to disc golf. I feel the 1.5 rating is realistic. I could bump this up to a 2.5 if they poured concrete pads, moved #3's tee to the top of the hill, and added 3 more holes. I am in the area every other weekend and will definitely be playing this course once or twice a month. Both times I've played, I have seen other groups playing, which is encouraging.
Hole by hole:
1. Short hyzer (RHBH) hole. Basket guarded by mature trees. Tee is next to the road on the north side of the park, just west of the parking lot.
2. Short and long tees, uphill with a mando. Forces a dead straight or long turnover shot from the pro tee.
3. Long downhill hole. Large tree just to the right and front of the tee, which encourages an anhyzer or turnover. The tee is on the backside of the hill which, so the runup is uphill. This would be a great downhill bomb if the tee was moved to the top of the hill.
4. 300' blind shot over a small hill
5. Pro tee has a mando forcing a 90 degree dogleg right. Needs a flick or strong anhyzer for a righty. Short tee is straightforward.
6. Short hole with a dead straight line and a slight hyzer line. Watch for kids playing near this hole.
