Pros:
I have played all of the other school courses in the area, so I went into this one with certain expectations. Unfortunately, this course fell a little short for me.
-On a positive note, I love that there is another course at another school to get students interested in the game. On that note alone, it is a success.
-I was very happy to discover that the baskets are double chained. Not many school courses have the more expensive double chains.
-Judging by the layout and the surrounding areas, they used the space available effectively. I think the course could be expanded into the woods behind holes 4-6, and maybe that is in the cards in the future.
-They saved the best two holes for last, so it is something to look forward to. Hole 11 has a small grove of trees around the basket that make it tough to get to without a precise shot. Hole 12 on the other hand is the only hole with real OB danger. It plays entirely on a grassy island in the parking lot. There is pavement surrounding three sides of the basket, making this invite-able ace run a risky challenge.
-The course does have a variety of hole lengths ranging from 85' (hole 2) to well over 300' (holes 1 and 8)
Cons:
On the other hand, there were many flaws within this course between the layout and upkeep.
-First, I could not find a starting point! There are no numbers on the baskets so i started wandering in the wrong direction until I confirmed 12 and 11 and then turned the opposite way in search of hole #1. After 20 min of searching, I gave up and threw from a fenced concrete pad (shot put maybe?). There is no course sign, nor a tee sign for hole #1 (unless I am blind).
-There is also no tee sign for hole #4, although that didn't matter since you can easily find the blue ground markers and see the basket 80'+ ahead.
-Being a school facility, it is the school's responsibility to clean and maintain the course I imagine. This course was littered with bottles and trash, probably from students and not players.
-The course is also fairly unimaginative I think. Of course it is a beginner-friendly school course, but the entire course is RHBH friendly. There are a few holes they could have added some trickier shots simply for variation while maintaining the level of skill they were going for.
-Again, I am aware this is a school course and not aimed at pro or even intermediate players really, but there is a lack of challenge here. An ace and 10 birdies on 12 holes is fun to say, but illustrates a general lack of challenge.
-The tee pads are natural and not very worn in yet. They are marked with 2 innova blue discs on each. Not a con, just an observation. There isn't much run-up required for most of the holes.
-And obviously with a school, there are certain rules (no alcohol, tobacco, pets, and you can't play during school hours) and with the layout, you probably can't play after school hours when students are practicing sports.
Other Thoughts:
Favorite hole: Hole 12. This hole is on the grass island in a drive around. The fairway is about 15' wide the whole way. The distance is only 179' and dead straight which invites an ace run. I birdied the hole during my game, but took a few more shots for fun before leaving. 4 out of 5 landed on the pavement. Even the 2 that skipped off the top of the basket landed OB.
Overall, I wasn't impressed with the course. I think Rawlinson Rd next door is a far better choice if you only have time for 12.
