Pros:

This is a new course, so I consider it as work in progress.

The pros:

-Well, any course with great teepads and baskets is worth a play.

-The signage is nice at each hole

-The setting is gorgeous, near camping and river/lake, through light to heavy woods.

Cons:

The cons:

-A couple holes, 1 and 4, are basically throwing into a wall of green. Some gaps need to be carved out. I played hole 1 cwith caution, but skipped 4 altogether

-The last several wooded holes need more than a 2-3 foot wide foot path as a fairway. Miss by a foot left or right and the nightmare begins. I ended up just putting my way up the course instead of spending 5 minutes looking for my disc after each shot.

-Not really sure the last several wooded holes even present real disc golf lines a better dg'er than me could even hit, swerving left and right with no airspace.

-Pars are a little off: anything more than 275 was a par 4.

-Signs or ribbons indicating the next hole would be appreciated, although there were only a couple points of confusion there.

Other Thoughts:

I played here because there a was a tournament at Wildcat Bluff.

I would definitely come back.

The lightly wooded holes were a joy to play. There are enough woods and water nearby the the bird life here is off the charts.

As the heavily wooded holes get more refined with time, this could be a 4+ star course easy

Lots of Potential

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 3, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Concrete Tees
-Decent Signage
-Good Baskets
-Good mix of open/technical
-Enjoy the tee over the creek (#6)

Cons:

-Last 6 holes are only 8' wide, heavily wooded
-Rough on last 6 is ROUGH, especially in peak growing season
-Road comes into play on 6 holes
-Disc loss possible

Other Thoughts:

The City Park hosts a very good DGC on the south end of Oelwein, IA. The course has an excellent mix of open and technical shots with 3 of the first 4 having lines going through tightly wooded areas. #6 has a nice tee shot over the creek. #7 - #12 are open working around more sparse large trees making you work lines around them. #13 starts the section in deeper woods. Fairways here are only about 8' wide. There is a Y in the #15 fairway, stay right to get to the basket, left will lead you to #16 basket. #17 is a long and winding hole and makes it tough with these narrow fairways. The rough on these last holes can be brutal, especially once the underbrush grown in in the spring. I would still love to see these last 6 opened up a little. They really are a totally different kind of course compared to the rest. Most of the early lines have been cleaned up. #1 has a good line. #3 is decent as well. #4 could use a little more for the RHBH crew, but that's a little nitpicky. Overall a fun course, just be aware of the last 6. Be patient and use some spotters. I will play again, when in the area.
