BASICS:
>Teepads--Grooved concrete, nice condition and I would think they shed water well. Nice and wide, and they would have been long enough, except for the questionable decision to put a concrete placard tee sign IN the teepad, toward the rear of each one, a bit more on the left side. So, if you want to use the left rear side of the teepad, you are out of luck. On some holes, this made the teepads feel a bit shorter.
>Baskets--DGA Mach 2's I believe, decent condition, catch well enough.
># holes--16. This WAS an 18-hole course, but on-going building construction has eliminated holes 1 and 18. I do not know the plans for replacing these, but they will not be the original holes, even if the total does get back to 18 in the future.
>Setting, type of course, fee? Large university campus. No fee to play, but if school is in session, parking will not be free, unless you want to walk over a mile. Not even sure where one would park, because the lot we parked in was not typically open to the public (school was not in session so we parked by teepad for 2, the new 1).
>Ease of getting to--A bit dicey actually--the road one would use is closed due to construction, another road to get to hole 2 is one way, so we had to crisscross a few parking lots to get there, but one could likely start on another hole with no issues.
.
AMENITIES:
.
>Parking--See last section--could be tricky if classes are in session.
>Bathrooms--No (though campus buildings likely have them, if one can get inside).
>Practice basket/driving net--No.
>Water/food nearby--The OSU student strip is 5 minutes or so away, which has about everything.
>Clubhouse/disc shop--No (though Columbus has some)
>Benches--I recall 2, though it is a flat course.
>Trash cans--Some.
>Bag holders--No.
>Tee signs--IN the teepads, hole # and distance, and flight lines that are not terribly accurate.
>Next tee direction/signs--No, but mostly not an issue.
>Wheelchair/cart friendly--Yes, yes. Except for hole 7, which crosses a small narrow bridge.
.
COURSE PLAY:
.
>Shot variety--Very limited. (Biggest con). Most holes are 225'--325', all par 3's, mostly straight shots with little shot shaping. It is frankly one of the boring tracks I have ever played. The last 3 holes offered a little variety, but the damage had already been done. If one can throw a Roc 275' straight, double digits under is definitely a target score. I was actually leaning toward a 2.0 rating just because of the lack of variety, but the last 3 holes, and recollecting the quality of the equipment moved the needle a bit.
>Open/wooded--Open--a few holes have a few trees to work around, most have 1 or 2 at most.
>Elevation--Pretty much forgot-to-fix-the-spare-tire flat.
>Distance of holes--About 180' to 340', mostly in the 275' range.
>Layout, long walks (inc. back to car), loops--One large loop, big walk (1000' or so) between 7 and 8.
>Total distance walked--1.5 miles
>Ease of finding next tee--Great except hole 7 to 8.
>General difficulty--Rec level
>Mud/water issues--No, but dry conditions recently.
>Water or O/B to contend with--Hole 7 has a marshy creek you throw over--it is a short, but blind hole, see where you are going first. Hole 15 throws near a small pond, but again, it would take a big shank or bad tree kick to get wet. There are SEVERAL parking lots which come into play, and likely considered O/B, and if busy, car clanking risk would be high on errant shots. We didn't care, we were trying to break in some new plastic and the lots were empty, but...
>Difficult rough/lost disc risk--Quite low.
>Scrape/scratch risk--Quite low.
>How busy was course/park--3 others seen playing, BUT, if school is in session, there would be lots of foot traffic on the sidewalks, and cars in the parking lots.
.
OVERALL:
.
>Fun/enjoyment factor, would I play again? It was pretty meh overall.
>Who will this course challenge? Rec players who cannot throw straight 250' or more.
>Is it worth a drive? No.
>Anything unique? Hole 7 is OK, but hardly unique.
>Would be a half star higher with--More shot and distance variety.
I am in my 50s, 130 or so courses played, 875ish.
