Surprisingly Good 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 25, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

For a short course, Old Town Park is surprisingly good:
--variety of distances, most between 200-300'
--variety of throws, with some uphill, some down, some hyzer some anhyzer
--rubber tees and solid baskets
--nice progression of throws: no long walks between baskets

Cons:

--the tees are too short
--many baskets are too close to the next tee: on a busy day, this could pose a problem

Other Thoughts:

I played the course with family on a warm Christmas Day. Aside from a dog walker, we were the only ones on the course. I found the course enjoyable, especially compared to some other short courses that seem too easy or poorly designed. I especially liked the shot out of the gully with the mando.

Best 9 hole I have played! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 18, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Rubber tees for grip
- Great tee signs that are pretty descriptive
- Monkey Trap baskets (orange and black to symbolize the Gravette's High School)
- Benches and picnic tables in the park
- The park is beautiful! The creek running through and the hardwood trees make this course not only fun to play, but fun to look at as well
- Lots of variety! This course contains tight fairways, ace runs, dogleg lefts, dogleg rights, uphill, downhill, this course has it all! In only 9 holes! This is one of the best pros about this course. Most 9 holes are boring and don't have much variety in landscape or structure. This course is completely different!
- No long walks to the next tee pad, which was really nice and kept the course short and sweet.
- This course yields a pretty quick round (25 minutes-45 minutes)
- Practice basket, which is extremely rare for a 9 hole course to have!
- The creek that comes into play in the last 4 holes has a lot of places to cross, so no climbing/ wading is required.
- While most holes were below 300', this course can still be a challenge to anyone that plays it! More experienced players can play for aces or birdies on every hole, while most beginners can shoot well as well.
- Every aspect the park contained was added into the design of this course! The elevation was used well, as well as the creek and hardwoods that added difficulty to holes.
- Some holes had alternate pin positons, which is very nice.

Cons:

- The rubber tee pads weren't as long as they needed to be, but were helpful nonetheless.
- Navigation was somewhat difficult a few times for the first time player. Finding tees from the last basket was difficult in multiple spots, but didn't take too long to find. This could easily be avoided, however. Print out a map if you want to avoid the confusion.
- Holes come a little too close to other things in the park. A few instances of this are the picnic tables and benches spread out around the park. On a busy day, this could be an issue.
- Some brush in the summertime could make finding a disc hard.
- Holes 7 and 9 play on the same flat land. These holes seem to be too close together, as their fairways are shared. This could pose a problem.
- Some tees were too close to other baskets IMO and could be a problem on a busy day.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, this course is phenomenal! A quick play that had me play it 3 times in a row! I would have kept playing it if I wasn't under a time constraint. I am extremely hesitant on ranking a 9 hole course a 4/5, but I honestly believe that this course has it all and deserves that high of a ranking. I also believe this ranking to be true because other than distance, this course does not lack any aspects that a good, full 18 hole course has to offer. This course had varying types of difficulty that is attractive to the beginner and pro alike. With the varying types of holes and aspects that made each hole unique, I never got bored or disappointed in the layout of the course. The park is very easy to get to and is absolutely worth the stop. Play a round, or two, or three, or a ton! This course will make you not want to leave! This is the best 9 hole I have ever played, and I believe you will agree!
