Wind Breaker 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 29, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

*Baskets: Arachnid targets, look awesome and catch great!
*Tee Pads: Concrete pads for every hole
*Tee Signs: Lists hole distance with "flight path" and par
*Practice basket and course map at start of course
*Good variety of distance: Couple holes under 200', several holes 200-300', a few 300-400', and I think 2 holes were over 400'
*Good variety of lefty/righty holes
*Nice use of walking path and property lines to define OB, adds to the challenge
*Nice use of ditch as a casual hazard and basket placement near the ditch
*Nice use of hill, 3 holes utilize it

Cons:

*Signs are very basic and do not list OB or show anything other than hole number, distance, and par. They are a little close to the pads also IMO.
*All tee pads are same length it seemed. They were fine for the shorter holes, but some of the longer holes could have used a bigger pad. Also they seemed narrow.
*No trash cans
*Course plays along a walking path. I could see this walking path pretty busy during warmer months. It was only 38 degrees and cloudy when I played and I saw a handful of walkers/bikers out there. Play smart and it shouldn't be much of a problem.
*A few holes were very open (no trees) but I hear there are plans to plant more trees.

Other Thoughts:

This was a fun course to play. I enjoyed the use of the walking path and property lines to define out of bounds. It made you think your shot over and make sure you have good placement on your drives. The trees that were available were put to use well. Many holes were very open, but the path, the pond, and the drainage ditch were nearby these holes to give it somewhat of a challenge. Perhaps the biggest challenge here could be the wind. Even a weak 10 mph wind could really play a role in your score.
The hill at the park stands out like a sore thumb since everything else in the park was basically flat. The hill comes into play on three holes, the first of which you shoot straight at (giving you an opportunity at an ace run since the hill plays as a nice backstop behind the basket), the second plays along side of the hill (I can see many rollaways from drives), and the third you get an opportunity to throw a bomb from the top towards the basket that is 700' away.
All in all, I enjoyed the course. It made great use of what was available. Some planted trees in the future would improve this course.
I feel confident in my rating of a 3. It is flat and somewhat open, but the OB is what gives this course the character it needs.
