Plummer DGC

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 30, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-- No. 6 (No. 2 on the main 9) is a good hole, 350 feet with the first 300 being semi-open before reaching the basket in a large stand of trees, making your approach line crucial if you don't have 350 power off the tee; I don't. No. 9 (No. 5 on the main 9) is also good. It's 260 feet with a line of small trees about 50 feet in front of the tee. The width of the gaps between the trees varies, but none of them are wider than 12 feet. No. 12 (No. 8 on the main) is similar to No. 2, but it's a little shorter and has a narrow direct line to the basket in the trees.
-- Tee signs are basic but functional. They have hole number, distance and par but no map. Since you can see the basket from every tee, it's not a big deal. However, the signs indicate this is two courses, with the shorter holes by the playground numbered 1-4. On the main 9, the holes are numbered 1-9.
-- Navigation is fairly simple. You've got a somewhat long walk from the playground holes to the main 9 (and that walk in reverse when you finish), but you probably drove past those holes on the way in, so you know where they are.
-- Counting all 13 holes, you've got good distance variation on a mostly short course: Five holes shorter than 225 feet, and four are longer than 325 feet.
-- Baskets are older DISCatchers. The look as if they have seen better days, but they still seem to catch OK.

Cons:

-- No seating at tees.
-- No map on site.
-- No water.
-- No restrooms.
-- For holes 5-13, the front of the tee is marked by a 4x4 length-wise in the ground. Holes 1-4 have a sign but nothing to mark where the "tee" begins or ends. No. 3 appears to tee from the outside of a walking path, but that puts you right up against a large bush. The tee for holes 5-13 are mostly OK, but a few are showing signs of wear; some are pitted and other are rocky, so they are becoming dangerous. No. 9 is the worst one.
-- The No. 9 tee is about 30 feet past the No. 8 basket, so an overthrow could hit someone standing on that tee.

Other Thoughts:

-- All holes are listed as par 3 on this site, but the tee signs clearly list several par 4s.
-- I played the shorter, open holes near the playground first (sort of a warm-up for the main course). Plus those are labeled holes 1-4 on this site. Those four holes offer almost zero challenge. Three of them are shorter than 200 feet, and there are two trees in the part of the course. The challenge does increase, however, as you end that four-hole stretch with a 220-foot uphill throw.

More Than A Pitch & Putt But I’d Still Call It A True Recreational Nine!

Reviewed: Played on:May 10, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

*****I played Plummer while school was in session so my review is solely on the park nine hole course*****

With a few holes getting up to 330' to 350' I can't call Plummer a pitch and putt. But with few hazards, broad fairways, flatness and recreational pars, it is a fun little rec course.

The course starts up near the school with nine holes playing up and down the wooded area twice. # 9 finishes at the school and close to the start. Then there are the wide open holes 10-13 out on the school's playfield.

The wooded nine has just enough trees to create fairways. Some. Baskets are set in the little groves, while two others have rows of trees guarding the basket. Accuracy helps here but it's not essential as being off the fairway route is not usually a kiss of death. It's a fun course to practice your rollers on.

The signs are simple plastic ones with the basic info. Only one sign showed any sign of vandalism. The tee pads are natural. Most are decent enough to throw from. The baskets are older Discatchers which are kind of dirty looking.

The pars are very forgiving with the four holes over 330' all being par fours.

Cons:

Not playing the four open playfield holes, there isn't much to complain about here. The course is what it is, a simple little recreational nine.

The trees are mostly easy enough to avoid. You can often roll under them.

Concrete pads would be great but so would bikini clad girls serving drinks.

Other Thoughts:

I found Plummer to be an enjoyable, stress free, recreational round, perfect for players just starting or older players on the downhill. It's an excellent course for a quick after work round or a course to grow your game on.

Accuracy Counts 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 2, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

4 hole course on playground makes a fun warm-up when school isn't in session. It can also be used to teach kids how to play.
If you keep your throws down and straight, you will have a good round. Easier said than done, which makes it an engaging course.
The course is short enough to play on a weekday after work, once daylight saving time is in effect.
There are trees but not so many that it feels like pure luck if you can miss them all.
You see a variety of skill levels here, so no one should be intimidated to try it.
No restrooms but there are retail, gas, and food options only about 5 minutes North (Beltline and 1382).
Very clean course in that there is no brush and thorns, water etc. Your only real way to lose a disc is to get it stuck in a tree.

Cons:

Unless you have a strong arm, if you don't keep your throws down, you will wish you had. Good news is there are plenty of rocks to throw to try to dislodge the disc from the tree it is stuck in.
The course punishes throws that drift left or right on most of the holes, due to the tree lines. It could get frustrating for some players.
Wind can be a big factor and send a putt flying. Sometimes it is easier to putt with a heavy midrange than with a putter.
The 4 hole playground course is closed when there is school. If you play on evenings and weekends, it won't matter.

Other Thoughts:

This course dries fast after a rain. No flood plains here!
Course always leaves you feeling you could have done a little better, which makes you want to come back and try again. "If only I hadn't hit that tree...."
Streets and residential areas surround the course, but 3 is the only hole where throwing in a street is a good possibility.

Nice Little Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 11, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great little 9 hole course next to the school. 4 practice baskets on the playground that's not usable during school hours. The course starts on the backside of the school. Lots of trees to work on aiming your shots around. Couple of baskets were in small groves of trees. Tee markers at all the holes with distances marked on them and a few told you where OB was.

Cons:

No real marked fairways like others have said, there was some trash on the ground that I picked up as I played the course.

Other Thoughts:

I was in town visiting and saw this was the closest course to me and it was pretty windy and very cold as I played this just as the Ice Storm started up in Texas. I would recommend this as a nice little warm up course or even a good daily practice course.

Nice 9 hole course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 9, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

4 hole course warm up area
Tee signs marking distance and hole number
Most tee's had tee marked, a few didn't.

Cons:

Uneven tees on several holes. I was worried about twisting my ankle on several of them.
A few of the holes did not have defined fairways

Other Thoughts:

Nice little wide open pitch and putt 4 holes around the playground on the East side of the school.

Then you cross over to play the 9 hole course though the cedar trees.

Other than hole one that is short and pretty open, most of the course is longer shots throwing though the tree's.

Some interesting holes there. I assume big arms can throw over the trees, I have to go around them so the course had some degree of difficulty for me.

In all, one of the best "school" courses I have played.

Would I play here again?

That is a tough one because you are near 3 of the better courses in the DFW area with Crossroads and Lorch Park nearby. But I would not rule it out. I would like to play it again to try to hit those lines. This course will make you work on accuracy in your drives.

Plummer 1-9 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 10, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good mix of distances and lines. Nice signage. Excellent use of trees--several baskets are tucked away in a grove and a few drives must navigate through or over a treeline.

Cons:

Dirt tee pads. No bathrooms. Lots of traffic nearby, but no real chance of throwing into a street.

School day fun. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 19, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Solid little 9 hole course.
Nice Discatcher baskets.
Good signage.
Easy flow.
Very well maintained.
Nice use of the land provided.
Not a boring pitch and putt course.
Holes have distance after hole 1.
Most holes have multiple lines for practice.
Balanced for lefty and right handed players.
Don't expect it to be very busy.

Cons:

Natural tees.
No trash cans.
Parking is limited to school property or along the road.

Other Thoughts:

Good little warm up on four holes on the playground and hole 1.
Fun little 9 holes, not your typical 9 hole.
Would be good to have this as a nearby practice course.
Used this course to work on rollers.
Also is nice to work on placement or hit gaps if you dont have the big hyzer.

really a 9 hole course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 1, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

-new discatchers, tee posts, dirt tees in good condition
-has lots of trees in play on 8 holes
-plays slightly long for a 9 hole course at an Elementary school; avg hole distance between 275-350
-holes offer some challenge on the fairway, even for the experienced golfer

Cons:

-the holes aren't easy but they also aren't very interesting
-hole 1 is strange, next to the school and over a parking lot, probably a safety issue most of the time
-the space for the course is very small but the fairways don't feel too close to each other and there probably will not be multiple groups frequently
-the design seems to be more about routing 9 holes through the park than creating good holes. i can't help but think this could be a pretty decent 6 hole course if it took better advantage of the land.
-parking is not abundant if it's a school day or if there is an event on campus

Other Thoughts:

Plummer DGC is a 9 hole course next to the school where there are also 4 pitch and putt holes on the playground. There was a school event going on the day I was here so I didn't get to play those holes.

The park is mostly flat except for some slight undulations in a few spots but it has lots of cedars. Other than the oddball hole 1, each fairway has numerous trees to navigate. There are thick patches of trees as well as single trees in the fairway to give route options. Bigger arms can easily go over the top on many holes and many might opt for that on Hole 5 with its row of trees 50' from the tee.

Most holes are nothing special but at least do have challenges to deal with in the fairways. It will take 300'+ of accurate distance to score deuces on most holes. Experienced players will probably be bored and have much better options nearby so this will likely be a challenging neighborhood course to score par for newer and younger players. In that regard it is well done for what it is: an overgrown elementary school course. But still, a good option for locals to get a quick round or for newer players who are a bit intimidated by the other tough courses in Cedar Hill and Duncanville.

You Are the Driver, Use Your Horn - Honk, Honk! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 9, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

First off, this is more like 2 courses. This is actually a 9-hole course located where all the trees are next to the school. The other 4 holes are a little pitch and putt course. I say this for 2 reasons. The 4-hole part is nothing like the other 9-holes, but more importantly it is even marked as holes 1-4 and the other 9 holes are 1-9. I will be reviewing the part of the course marked as holes 1-9.

There are enough trees and are well used on the holes, so I would call it semi-woodsy. There is no elevation, a couple of open holes, and fair to good pin placements (considering the land use). It is an easy course to navigate. And only one hole was tough to see the basket (it was behind trees and fun to get to it). Accuracy is need on some holes and there are a many options as routes on most of the holes from the tees. So it lends to be left and right-handed friendly.

Cons:

It is important to note that the first hole is poorly set up. It carries over a small parking area. The day I was there, cars were parked in front of the tee and in front of the hole. This is a pointless hole and forced me to just take a par as I was not about to harm any property.

This course is new and not too long, so there were no trash cans, benches, or signs and they really are not necessary. The posts only have numbers on them, but they are easy to spot where the dirt tees are located. At the time of this review, the dirt tees are just fine for this course and in good shape.

Other Thoughts:

The Fun Factor at Plummer, was below average for me. I enjoyed a few of the holes; 4 of them were fun to play. I accept that there was limited space and it was mostly well designed within those parameters while trying to keep it safe.

Decent 9 hole? or 13? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 10, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

New Course. Well maintained. Good course for practice and new disc tryout. Four holes by playground good for midrange/putter shots and practice. Other nine holes provide a bit of their own challenge.

Cons:

Can become a bit redundant when played multiple times. Dirt teepads (not a con for me). No distance markers, but tee posts.

Other Thoughts:

This is a relatively new course put in to help grow the sport. Four holes on the playground area were built to get kids excited about the sport. From about 60 feet to 200. The other nine holes vary in length and are not just gimme shots. You will have to work to get your good score on this course.
Posts mark the hole and another post in the ground marks the tee boxes. Baskets are easily seen and easy to follow the flow of the course.
I use this course for practice and to tryout new discs because it is very close to me. It is another great addition for Cedar Hill to make four courses. Less challenging than the other three high level courses but a good addition.
