Promising new course. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 5, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Holes play with a variety of elevation change.
Most holes are very open for long drives.

Cons:

Poor course marking (so far).
Not many technical wooded holes.

Other Thoughts:

Only played this once a few months ago before the course was posted on here. Some things in this review may have changed already since we played it but I'll update my review after playing the course again.

Most of the holes are pretty wide open which is a very nice change compared to Walnut Creek in North Garden and Meadow Creek in Charlottesville. The layout uses the hilly terrain well and gives you a great combination of downhill, uphill and flat throws. The open fields really brings wind conditions into play compared to wooded courses. It's a much longer course than I'm used to playing. Overall it's a very promising course once things get more established.

Issues that have probably been changed already or will be fixed in the future are navigation and waist high grassy fields. There were a few "maps" of the course but they were completely useless. They more or less showed the fields which had tee boxed and holes but no layout information what so ever. We only had wooden stakes to mark a tee box with faded numbers to designate what hole it was. Many actually didn't have anything written on the stakes so we didn't know where we were. We did start at hole 1 and somehow started playing the course kind of in reverse. A few holes in of just "wingin' it" we put some clues together and got to hole 2 and had a much easier time following the course from there. At the time the grass wasn't mowed at all and I nearly lost a disc in the middle of the fairway, however, after driving past the other day it seems the fields are well maintained now. It's a 45 mile drive but we're definitely going back to play this course again soon.

One update already. Culpepper has a course map to follow now. https://www.culpeperva.gov/do...-Golf-Map.pdf
