fun hilly course to work on your uphill shots 2+ years

Pros:
a. Tee pads are nicely long, in fine gravel pits with raised concrete (?) covered with turf.
b. Many downhillers are great even for a weak arm. Put the disc on the right high line with some power and gravity will definitely help you (nos. 1, 7, 8, 13, 16).
c. Each hole sign is invaluable for both the hole being played (which basket you are playing to) as well as where the next tee is.
d. Par scores are fair.

Cons:
a. Lots of walking up and down hills; routing for front 9 is pretty harsh. Possibly unavoidable since park is recycled from a ball-golf course. By contrast, the back 9 takes you up once, keeps you up for 3 holes and the 13 tee, and then brings you down to the creek valley with just two (spaced out) rises (nos. 15 and 18).
b. Steep uphillers can be somewhat maddening; my particular challenge on any day. I have handled holes 6 and 9 decently (both have a flatter start before the steep stuff). No. 3 is just frustrating; maybe when I develop a controlled roller, I will give that a try here. I have figured out how to play no. 18: aim your drive really far left (understable disc) and watch it climb up and back right.
c. The park can get rather busy...I have never had pedestrians trekking across the course in front of me, but there can be a good deal of walkers on the old cart path that runs throughout the course.
d. Print the course map online because there is no such at the beginning of the course. There is a photo of the course map on discgolfscene.com. So I miss seeing it all the time or someone removed it.
e. No benches. Maybe a few holes get a bench? Couple in the high area; one in the creek valley.
f. Baskets have no numbers. See the hole sign to confirm which basket you are going to (see c in Pro section).
g. While nowhere near as bad as Giles Run Meadow, a thorny rough is present. Expect it.

a. Looks like it used to be part of a ball-golf course that failed. There are some very scenic views, particularly from the high crests.
b. There are some large critter holes in the fairways of nos. 11 and 12. Watch where you are walking!
c. If you are not a local - perhaps live closer to Washington, DC or Baltimore (or Annapolis or Charlottesville) and this would be a day trip - consider playing both this course and Spilman (30 minutes away) in the same day with lunch (perhaps) in between. Makes for a lovely, lovely outing.
