Rosewood: Where a 53-foot hole is only the second shortest on the course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 9, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Rosewood actually has the makings of a decent practice area. There's plenty of room in the field to actually throw drives, making these baskets useful.
- It's actually considered a course! With a seventh basket, it's listed as a course, not a practice area. Eat that Mt. Gallant Elementary School 5 minutes down the road, with your six-hole practice area.
- From a course stand point, I only brought my putter and that was more than enough. I played the seven holes in about 7 minutes, if not shorter.
- Course has an easy flow to it. It also actually has signs at each tee, giving it a leg up on some of the other school courses.
- Great place to bring kids to play. With a neighborhood surrounding the school, this course could actually serve a purpose for that.
- The field is big enough to practice mid-range and longer throws. For most people, taking aim at the baskets from 200 - 300 feet, is a better use of this course than trying to salvage a 2 with a 12-foot putt.

Cons:

I'm not going to knock the course for its poor layout; not for having a hole length of under 88 feet; not for only being 7 holes when you could easily squeeze in two more 90 footers.
- The issue is that the baskets are, for the most part, in horrible condition. For a course three years old, that means they've been hit with the mowers, kids are climbing on them, or they're being vandalized. I find that part of this course more off-putting than having a 47-foot hole.
- For any future course designers, don't make your closing hole a 53-foot layout. You're not going to win anyone over with that.
- Why didn't the course go a little further back into the field? With just a little more use of the land, you're now turning holes into the 125-foot range, at less making this more of a challenge/useful locale.

Other Thoughts:

Rosewood is one for the really young kids. I've played other elementary school courses, and most of those are averaging holes in the 125 - 150 range. Those also look like they get more play - both from students and nearby residents. This one doesn't look like it serves anyone's interest.
- I DID NOT BREAK PAR HERE!!! To clarify, every hole is a par 2, and I shot an even 14. I feel like I should have holed-out at least one or two of these shots.
- If I could walk here, I could see myself occasionally coming here to practice. If the baskets were in decent shape, that'd be more enticing for practice.
- With courses like this, Mt. Gallant and Belleview, I feel that the Rock Hill school courses are a means of padding my 'courses played' list. It took me as much time driving between here and Mt. Gallant Elementary as it did to play the two of them combined.
