Unexciting Mud-hole 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 4, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

It is great to have a disc golf course. This course is easy to find in not far off 465. The practice basket has a pretty neat set of bricks in the ground in a semi-circle. Each one further from the basket than the last. This course does have a mix of woods holes and open holes. There are 2 tee-pads and 2 basket positions for each as well.

Cons:

After hole one, holes 2-10 are in the woods. The fairways are essentially mud-holes. It really has not rained much in the past several days, sunny and temps in the 60s-70s. I don't think it ever dries up. Although it is relatively easy to follow, there are very few signs. Most tee-pads have wooden sticks in the ground indicating hole number and distance. Speaking of the tee-pads, they aren't bad, really. Unorthodox. Some sort of rectangular plastic composite with vents cut out.

Other Thoughts:

This course is really not very imaginative. The open holes switch back against on another. It is like playing the same hole 4-5 times. Some of the short tee's are a little too short. The longs are fine, I guess. I do think that there is still some ongoing construction happening here. With a little TLC and a way to get rid of the mud, I could certainly be made better,

Designer response by Matthew boals
Fall of 2020 10 tons of gravel added in the low spots in the woods. And just in case boot brushes are installed on the long tee sign posts. All holes now have Tee Signs. All holes have two tee pads. They are "Hog Slats" preformed 4' x 10' made of concrete. 3" of gravel added to #1, #2, #10, #11, #12, #14 through #18. 40' footbridge also added in front of #17.
The "open" holes are the original 9 designed in 1992. We wanted to keep those tee/pin locations for history and it was less work to do. ;).
Still planning on a few mounds for Elavated greens.
Depending on the pin locations, and tee played, when you played it can be a beginner friendly course. Play long to long and a Advanced player with be challenged on a handful of holes.
Hope ya make it back to check out the upgrades!
Always highly recommended to wear long pants, boots and bring bug spray!
Bat boxes added to help with the Mosquitoes

Solid Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 27, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great variety of distances, shot shapes, wooded/non-wooded holes, especially on the long pins.
Most holes can be played a variety of ways. Bad shots can get punished hard, but good shots feel great.
The upkeep on the course is very good.
Concrete tee pads and hole signs with distance, par, etc. were recently added.
Two pin positions for most holes that are switched up several times a year and play fairly different.

Cons:

Field gets very wet when it rains, I wouldn't advise going after a heavy rain. And the rough is thick in the late spring/summer, easy to lose discs. Have a spotter on the wooded holes, especially if it's your first time at Sahm.
Mostly par 3s.

Other Thoughts:

One of my go-to courses when it's dry.

Pros:

Sahm park is currently in a transition phase it seems from the old 9 hole layout to a new 18 hole layout. As such, holes 1 and 11 through 18 have concrete tees since they comprise the original 9 hole set up. Holes 2 through 10 are the newly added holes and as of now have natural tees. These are the highlights of the course though, even without concrete tees or signs. The baskets are brand new Prodigy pins very similar to newer DISCatchers but with a lime green band on the top and a reinforced inner layer of chains cross strung in more of an X pattern. These look beautiful but honestly don't catch the greatest. The flow of the course is actually pretty intuitive for the most part. Even and actually especially on the newly added holes. The course is essentially completely flat. However the woods are used to near perfection, again mostly on the newer wooded holes. You will need to bust out a pretty wide variety of shots to shoot well here. As a matter of fact you better have a side arm shot that's on point or be left handed ( for RHBH players) or this course can eat you alive quickly, early.

Cons:

The obvious cons are the natural tees and the lack of signage. I factored this into my review giving it a 3. With the eventual addition of either or both the rating should jump up at least a half. Nothing the designers can do but the lack of water and elevation can make it a little repetitive at times.

Other Thoughts:

This is not the greatest course I've played for sure. But this is a really fun course that only seems to be getting better and better. This is, as currently stands, worth a short trip out of your way to play. And if/when concrete and tee signs are added will for sure be worth a drive to play. Excellent job by the course designers taking the previously unused wooded section and adding 9 new unique wooded holes that fit pretty seamlessly with the original 9. This is an up and coming course in the area I feel. Worth a visit for sure.

Unforgiving and great 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 25, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Lot's of woods and trees.
Good variety of hole styles (wooded, open, short, and long)
Half the course is new

Cons:

Sahm's new course is unforgiving. The fairway is often covered in foliage and can be, brushy and messy.
The rough is even worse. It's easy to loose a disc and they can be hard to find.
Right now there is no signage so figuring out where you go can be a bit of a challenge.

Other Thoughts:

Holes 1 and 11-18 are the the original 9 holes from the course.
Holes 2-10 are new and buried deep in the woods.
Hopefully the holes and directions to the next tee will be marked soon.
