Wonderfully enjoyable course on a particularly quiet parcel - perfect for a temporary escape from whatever's chasing you.

• Solidly designed to require a nice combo of placement with some distance. Somewhat technical without being extremely so, Masi's fairways strike a good balance between wooded and open with a reasonable range of distances. No holes are wide open, but none felt pinball like off the tee. Distance is only rewarded if it's reasonably well-placed (but you don't need a big arm score well). Clearly defined fairways play relatively straight, but very well-placed trees/vegetation strongly encourage finesse and shot shaping in the form of subtle turnovers or end of flight fade to set up good chances of par or birdie looks. Really does a lot with a scant 11 holes!

• Fairly flat for the most part, mild elevation comes into play on a few holes, but it's not the course's defining feature. FYI - neighboring Roscoe features more significant elevation changes.

• Convenient to loop in all or part of Roscoe Ewing (between Masi #'s 7 & 8) for up to 27 holes of fun... or just play 11 holes at Masi if you're pressed for time.

• Aesthetics: Beyond delightful, short of spectacular. Deer watching you throw (my son and I saw no less than ten during our round), in a quaint neighborhood setting, and a winding creek create an intimate and peaceful setting.

• Equipment/Nav/Routing: Good concrete tees provide sure footing and have hole # etched into them at the back, so you know if you're at the correct tee. Bright orange DGA lollipops make it easy to spot baskets (even in shadows/twilight). Flows pretty well from hole to hole. If you don't pay attention or check the map, it's easy to mistakenly play 9 after 6, but orange tape on one of the basket spokes points you toward the next hole and next tee signs help keep you going the right direction.

• Except for #7, does good job of routing throws away from non-DG traffic.

• Fun factor: Great. Please see other thoughts.

With all the deer here, it wouldn't surprise me if you found some ticks on you after playing. My son and used Permethrin and didn't find any on us, but given that we saw 10 deer on Masi (plus another 3 on Rosco), the likelihood of ticks just seems higher than most places I've played. Simply an FYI, rather than a ding in my rating.

• The way # 7 plays along the walking path is sub-optimal, but the sight lines are such that players and walkers should be able to see each other to avoid any real issues.

• The rough gets thick. In some spots, it's dense enough to appropriately punish bad throws without being overly harsh. In others, missing the fairway can be very nasty, and you can definitely lose a disc here.

• Tee markers with distance would be an improvement.

A splendid example of a course that's way more fun to play than a simple analysis of the #'s leads you to believe. I won't downgrade it for only being 11 holes when you can easily loop in some or all of Roscoe Ewing to play up to 27 solidly designed holes.

Straight-up, as a standalone course, I'd rate the disc play here a very solid 3.0. But the great setting and ability to jump onto Roscoe Ewing for more golf make this better than most 3.0's, hence my 3.5.

• Map says "Holes 7 + 8 NOT PLAYABLE," ...but we had no problem finding or playing them. The posted maps for both, Sam Masi and Roscoe Ewing, need to be updated. It would be optimal if someone made a single map, showing all 11 at Masi in one color, with the 16 at Roscoe in another color.

Not epic or championship caliber, but certainly challenging, Sam Masi is the type of course most players will really enjoy, and scores high marks for being what disc golf is supposed to be: FUN.

I played the regular Roscoe Ewing 16 hole layout before heading over To Sam Masi, as I wanted to play this course independently. While Roscoe warmed me up, Sam humbled me with it's long and tightly technical layout. This course is beautiful, tough, frustrating, and fun all rolled into eleven satisfying holes. Many of the fairways don't appear too tough, but the innocent looking medium to small trees will keep you on your toes. The majority of the holes are long, and the fairways are tight. If you waver left or right you'll be scrambling to get a look at the basket. I found this course unique in design and the natural landscape that was provided, can't think of any other courses around that come close to this. Low ceilings also add to the toughness that is offered. While most tee shots scream distance driver, I found controlled course management with fairways and mid ranges in order to keep each shot in play. A solid mix of elevations, doglegs, wooded, and bombs I left the course amused and humbled. A great addition to Medina and one of the more difficult courses around.

Sam Masi is a solid course right across the street from Roscoe! Many golfers will play both for a 27 hole experience.

Wide fairways, with a perfect amount of trees scattered about. Wildlife is abundant here, saw dozens of deer across the property!

I've heard there are plans to install concrete tees, but the carpet tees are grippy and work for the time being. Baskets are in great shape and catch well.

Lots of fun routes to take with your disc. Every time you play, you discover a new strategy you never thought of before.

#8 is one of my favorite holes I've played. It winds through a tight fairway, with trouble on both sides. Tee off from the top of the hill for a 700+ foot challenge!

such a great technical course. While it doesn't have concrete, the carpet works awesome! You get the feel of a fresh natural pad. None of the holes are really long but with OBs mixed in, great guardian trees, and ball golf course fairways this course is a must play.

I played on a gorgeous January day at 60° day after many days of pouring rain. It made the course a soupy mess. In the summer this wouldn't be a problem but it made for sloppy footing. This is how ANY course though.

Do yourself a favor and play this course!

My goodness, if you are not in the fair way be prepared to go and have a search party for your disc in the grass and woods.

i love the challenge of it. it is up there with some of the better courses i have played. i usually do this course in conjunction with Roscoe Ewing on the weekends. this place will help to make you a better intermediate player. cant wait for more updates to the place.

when i want to stretch out a bit with how far i can throw and still be accurate, i come here. i like the fact that this course is still changing and morphing. i am waiting patiently to see what hole 8 will be when complete. but for now, if i have a bad outing at rosce i just walk over to masi and let my discs rip

Very strategic; long throwers can throw beyond trouble but take a risk of losing a disc on an errant shot. Shorter throwers will find second shots just as challenging as the tee shots. As yet the course isn't too crowded so there are no delays in play.

Always a danger of losing a disc here so having spotters is recommended. Easily accomplished by letting short throwers tee off first so they can spot the long shots.

One cannot help but to compare this course to Roscoe since they are so close together but they are totally different courses. Sam Masi requires accuracy off the tee and approach shots must be considered carefully since on most of the holes several options present themselves. Overall this is a great course with loads of potential. As it matures it will just get better. It really is a thinker's type of course; each shot has to be planned and executed properly to score well here. Sam Masi has a personality all it's own and will stand on it's own merits. Another great course for Medina.

Wanted to add an update for 2015. All of the tee areas have now been covered with an outdoor carpet material that was turned upside down. It is a welcome improvement. One can't help but wonder if this is a precursor to concrete tees as time progresses. Another change is the addition of hole #7 that runs along the walking path towards Roscoe Ewing. There is a marker that states that the hole is 300 feet; fairly straight but with trouble left and right. Played the course again last night; one of the folks that are helping with the layout told me there is another tee for hole #7; it is up the hill behind the walking path where the tee marks are...this adds yet more length and difficulty. From up there the hole plays more like a 380-400 foot downhill dogleg left. Was also fortunate enough to see the layout of the final hole to be finished; #8...and it is a beauty. Looks like the tee is behind the basket of #7 across the creek. The hole looks like a long tunnel shot back towards hole #9. Don't know the final length yet but it will be a test in accuracy as well as perhaps distance.

Now, read on....there is yet more news about Masi....had an opportunity to talk with Team Jenkins recently; ran into them during a round. They were working on the course doing some weeding and tee pad installation. Masi is far from finished....we were told that most of the tees we are playing from (except for the long one on #7 that was installed earlier in the day) are the short tees....that's right fans, the SHORT tees. The layout for the longs is done; in particular hole #2 is going to be stretched at least another 100 feet. On most of the other holes either the long tees or the baskets will be moved back considerably depending on layout....making a tough course that much harder. Also got to walk the as yet unfinished hole #8. It's going to be a tunnel shot (tight both left and right) of 450 gut wrenching feet. Gorgeous hole though. All I know is at this point I'm thinking that Masi is going to be long, tight and tough from the longs...much more so than it is now. I can't wait to see the finished product but it will take some time. In the mean time though I'll play from the furthest back they have available....and enjoy the reprieve. There is a monster coming and his name is Sam.

The course is maturing already...the growth is making it that much harder and the way it is mowed it appears that the landing zones for us shorter arms is even more narrow. Very diabolical and very well done. This course cannot be compared to Roscoe; it is very, very different. Many thanks to the Jenkins family and all those who are working so hard on this one. For me it is a challenge but truly a gem that is definitely worth checking out.

Update for July 2016....Hole #2 has been stretched out. The tee is about 100 feet behind the previous location (now the short) in a small grove of overgrowth. Changes the entire look of the hole. Tee shot requires a sweeping annie; second shot can come in from either side depending upon position of the tee shot. Hole #8 is also finished and it is a brute.....gorgeous, but a brute. Presently requires a stick straight tee shot then a long hyzer to the basket that is tucked in to the left. I don't believe this hole is finished yet since there is another 150+ feet of room to stretch the tee. If that happens (which I have a feeling it will) the hole will be a true monster.

Also, the carpet on most holes has been replaced by new carpet. I believe that the long range plans are concrete tees once they are set; there has already been funds allocated from a few tournaments to help the cause. Team Jenkins are there quite often; please stop and thank them (and others) for all the hard work they have put in to make this course the real deal.

Sam Masi is a nice course that I checked out while I played Roscoe. It presents a challenging, but fun round. Come check it out!

Sam Masi DGC is just an outrageously beautiful and difficult course located across the street from Roscoe. Before anything else, this course is just beautiful. It plays through a large grass field known as the "Nichols Property". The Nichols Property is a beautiful chunk of land that is home to an abundant wildlife population and an awesome disc golf course. Team Jenkins has put together a mix of pure diabolical holes playing through this scenic chunk of land. Every hole provides it's own unique challenge that usually requires a strategic mindset rather than a "Throw It Far" mindset. I would really call it a "Thinkers" type of course, with multiple lines and options on every single hole. The best part about this course is it is being improved nearly every week! Each hole has a carpet tee pad with a small, simple map containing the hole number, distance, and a small sketch of the hole. Personally, I enjoy having long grass on either side of the fairway. It forces you to be cautious with your throws, or you could end up in some serious trouble. The land Team Jenkins had available was used to perfection. Almost every hole is in it's own space, but it is not too spaced out where there is a lot of potential space for extra holes left over. All of the trees, water, and hills were put into perfect use. The creek, which comes into play on holes 7,8,9, and 10, is clear, shallow(Except on #10), and easy to retrieve discs from(Again, except for #10). Besides disc golf, there are many other things to do at Sam Masi Park. Other activities include; A large pavilion that can hold up to 30 guests, a handicapped baseball field, a playground, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Near the #1 tee is a portable restroom and drinking fountain. Hole #8, while not yet completed, will easily be the signature hole on the course. It's a tunnel shot that plays up and down hills with a creek on the right and dense woods on the left. Here's the kicker about #8: It is set to play over 500 feet! Currently, my favorite hole is #7 from the long tees. This hole, in my opinion, is better than most of the holes across the street at Roscoe. You tee off from an extremely elevated tee to a valley with OB on both sides. I recommend you play the long tees on this hole, because it is a very memorable tee shot. The park is always in great shape, free of any trash or debris.

The walking path comes into play on holes 5 and 7.The maps are starting to fade, and the tees are wearing down. I'm sure Team Jenkins is looking for more permanent options. The creek to the left of #10, especially next to the basket, is really deep and murky, so finding a stray disc is a huge task. Not really a major con, but there are only 10 holes(11 pending the opening of hole #8). I understand that an expansion is planned, bringing long tees, new pin basket positions, and possibly new holes. The long grass on both sides of the "Fairway" can be troublesome if you don't have a playing partner.There is Poison Ivy in some spots. Some holes do not drain well after rain.

In conclusion, Sam Masi DGC is a beautifully challenging course that really requires more strategy than a long arm. As the course matures, the course will really live up to it's full potential. This is a must play in Medina once the expansion is completed, but it is worth the trip right now!

UPDATE(12/7/15)- The course is already maturing, and the recent surge of popularity is starting to wear down the rough spots. There have been many nice touches added to the course, I'll let you find out yourself. I have upgraded my review from a 4 to a 4.5 because the course is improved every time I go back!
