Off to a great start on the hill!

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 16, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Disc Golf at Alpine Valley! I have been here for a ton of concerts and it was great to see the backside of the amphitheater from the course on the ski hill.

-This is arguably the most unique course in SE Wisconsin.

-Pay to play. $5.00 daily fee. I would gladly pay $10.00 or more if the funds go to course improvement endeavors.

-Baskets and tee pads are brand new, so everything is in great shape.

-Awesome elevation and hole variety throughout the course. The first 3 holes take you uphill, then you get to grip it and rip it back down on Hole 4.

-The signature holes here are the downhill bomber shots on 4 and 18.

-The ski hill equipment including snowmakers, light poles, fences, etc. provide unique obstacles that you don't see on a typical course.

-There are a few shorter holes, such as 6, 7, 12 and 15 but they provide plenty of challenges with a few tight fairways. They did not feel like filler/throw away holes.

-Next tee signs on most baskets and other temporary markers helped with navigation.

Cons:

-Tee pads are nice and wide, but they are not long enough. I am not a tall guy and I use a normal 4 step approach on most holes but found myself looking for creative ways to use the space around the tee pads too many times here. Hopefully there is a plan in the works to fix this issue.

-The signs are temporary, which is expected at a brand new course. I trust that the eventual permanent signs will allow me to move this to the Pros section down the road.

-Minor but anticipated issue for a new course...there are a lot of tripping hazards. Watch your step, especially in the wooded areas.

Other Thoughts:

-This new course has a ton of potential. Whether or not any improvements are made here, I live close enough to come back for more fun on the hill.

-Speaking of fun...this course already has it in a big way. This has always helped me decide whether or not to come back and play a "new to me" course.

-I hope the Alpine Valley team will be able to add additional holes to utilize more of the elevation the hill has to offer in the future.

A nice new course drive by

Pros:

Summer trails at alpine valley is a nice course if you like a mix of wooded tight shots, and long wide open bombers. The first few holes take you up the ski slope which eventually lead you to hole 4, a 405ft downhill shot. After hole 4 you swing back up hill with home 5 which is 555ft up and to the right. The remaining holes make their way across the hill to where 17 and 18 head back down toward the pro shop. For what the course offers now, $5 daily admission with a nice selection of discs in the pro shop, I recommend it and look forward to what the course will improve upon in the future.

Cons:

With how steep this course is, it's not very cart friendly. The steepness could be an issue for people with mobility issues. The tee pads are a tad short in some spots with dirt and other soft unstable ground in front and behind, so if you have a run up like James Conrad you will run into issues. Some parts of the ground can be wet and rough at times, I've been close to rolling my ankle a few times, especially on 17 and 18, they are on the steepest parts of the hill.

Other Thoughts:

The course has a Facebook group where the groundskeepers and employees of Alpine Valley actively acknowledge feedback, the course has a lot of potential. Leagues and tournaments are also starting to occur this month.
