Best in Little Rock

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 16, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Decent turf tee pads
very good use of the elevation
decent use of the water and cart paths

Cons:

Course has temp tee signs

Other Thoughts:

This is a formerly temp course that was left in due to loosing burns and the Reservoir courses back in the spring.

I actually didn't realize it was in the ground until I was driving though town and looked it up on the other app. It was not on my agenda for the day, but I made room for it and was very glad I did.

you park by the old club house and the 1st tee is off the hill to the next hill over. Reminds me of the first hole at Disc Side of Heaven. The course then winds around the south side of the hill and hole 9's basket is back by the parking lot.

You do have some longer holes including hole 8 that was done really well for a 800ft+ hole. Nice rolling fairway with the basket near the edge of the hilltop green.

Hole 10 to 18 are all on the north side of the hill. Hole 10 is an interesting shot being down the hill with OB if you carry too far and rough on both sides of the fairway. The basket is hidden from view over the edge of the hill on an old golfing tee area.

Hole 11 is a little pitch and putt in the tree's. Then hole 12, one of the better holes on the course, at about 500ft you have a wide creek that you can't see from the fairway, just make sure you clear the brush on the other side or you will be fishing out your disc.

Hole 13 is a better hole from the long tee, just saying. this is played as an island hole, across the creek but not past the cart path.

Then you have some chances for birdies before you get to the legendary hole 18.

Hole 18 is one of the toughest hole 18's I have seen. It's 600ft+ short where your drive is super important to set up an upshot. The basket is up near the very top of the hill, 1/2 of the fairway to the basket is up a steep hill with an OB cart trail on one side and a big drop off with major brush on the other. This narrow fairway is tough.

Would I play here again? Yes, I do believe this is the best course in the Little Rock area. For years, going all the way back to 1988 I have stopped at Burns park to play when going to Thanksgiving up near Heber Springs or my family in Tennessee. I even use to meet my parents at the park for lunch when my kids would spend a few week every summer with them at the farm.

The ONLY reason I didn't rate this course as a 5 is because it could be better. Real tee signs, better tee pads and maybe tweak the course a little bit. I am just glad the course made good use of the tree's instead of using all the old golf fairways.
